UPDATE: October 26, 2017
Effective December 17, 2017 the SPG partnership with Uber will come to an end.

Members who have met all of the requirements to earn Starpoints in accordance with the SPG-Uber benefits program, including, without limitation, having a Stay posted to their SPG Member account for the current calendar year will continue to earn Starpoints on Uber rides up until 11:59PM on December 17, 2017.

If the stay overlaps with the program end date, you will still earn 2 starpoints per USD 1 spent on Uber rides taken during your stay. Any rides taken after 11:59 on December 17, 2017 even if taken during a stay that originated on or before December 17, 2014 will not earn starpoints on that uber ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will members stop earning Starpoints on their Uber rides?
Members who have met all of the requirements to earn Starpoints in accordance with the SPG-Uber benefits program, including, without limitation, having a Stay posted to their SPG Member account for the current calendar year will continue to earn Starpoints on Uber rides up until 11:59PM on December 17, 2017, subject to applicable limits.

If members have a stay that overlaps with the program end date, will they still earn 2 Starpoints per US$1 spent on Uber rides taken during the stay?
Yes, members who check-in for a Stay prior to 11:59PM on December 17, 2017 and have an Uber pick-up time prior to 11:59PM on December 17, 2017, subject to applicable limits, will earn 2 Starpoints for every U.S. dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent for fares on the Uber ride(s). Any rides taken after 11:59PM on December 17, 2017, even if taken during a stay that originated on or prior to December 17, 2017, will not earn Starpoints on the Uber ride(s). To earn Starpoints for any Uber ride the member must have met all of the requirements to earn Starpoints in accordance with the SPG-Uber benefits program, including, without limitation, having a Stay posted to their SPG Member account for the current calendar year.

Why did I recently have a delay in my Starpoints posting for my Uber rides?
An issue was identified affecting Uber rides over the last month that delayed the posting of points to member accounts. We have since fixed this issue and members should receive all ride credits within the stated 2-4 week period.

UPDATE: January 18, 2017
Uber Partnership Update
  • During Hotel stay: Members will earn two Starpoints per US$1 spent with Uber (versus two, three or four Starpoints per US$1, depending on member tier).
  • Everyday: members will earn one Starpoint per US$2 spent with Uber (versus one Starpoint per US$1).

With your SPG and Uber accounts linked and you have met a requirement of ONE qualifying stay in the current calendar year, SPG members will earn 1 point per dollar spent with Uber on every day rides. For rides during stays, SPG members will earn 2 points per dollar spent on Uber (Preferred), 3 points per (Gold or Platinum), or 4 points per (Plat75).

There is a maximum of $10,000 in points-earning spend with Uber per calendar year. This means that you could have up to 40,000 SPG points with this promotion (if you were a Plat75 and only used Uber while on SPG stays and maxed out $10,000 in Uber services).

2. For those with an Uber ride credit for referring other Uber customers- will those rides also receive SPG points according to the cost of the ride?
This is what I was told:

1) Any SPG-eligible stay counts
2) Yes – all credits and discounts through Uber offers/promos are considered eligible dollars spent

I mean really, this is just incredible. Highly delighted! This to me is more valuable than the suggested alternatives for the 10 SNAs!

Really, great move SPG and Uber - well done! Getting EK Points from staying at SPG, and SPG points for riding with Uber - well, thats just genius. Way to try and control the stack. Very impressed - thanks SPG!

Just some speculation - what could be next? What's missing in the stack? Rail operators? Cell phone companies? Luggage stores?

[PS - wish we had the AmEx/Uber partnership in the UK!]

“Stay Eligibility Period” means any time between the date (which includes 12:00 A.M. through 11:59 P.M. local time of such date) that the Participant checks in for a Stay and the date (which includes 12:00 A.M. through 11:59 P.M. local time of such date) that the Participant checks out from such Stay; and
Not particularly clear. Does the local time mean all times local like all travel itins, or local time of the property checked into?

Imagine someone checking out in the morning of the 4th of a property in East Asia, flying to the US, and taking Uber. The date in asia might be the 5th, while the local date in the US might still be the 4th.

The bonus probably wouldn't apply in this instance, and rightly so.

From a systems perspective, I would think it will just be the date of Uber transaction vs. date of hotel stay. If your checkout date in NRT is OCT 4 and your Uber transaction is OCT 4 in US (which could be OCT 5 in NRT), it should count.

Otherwise it gets complex to implement technically as now you have to take hotel checkout local time zone at 2359, convert to UTC and then take Uber transaction date time convert to UTC and then compare if the Uber transaction took place prior to hotel checkout at 2359 UTC equivalent. Also means you need some functionality to handle the daylight savings/standard time in various countries.

Much more simple to take hotel checkin and checkout date and if Uber transaction occur on same date regardless of timezone, it counts. I'll be surprise if they don't take this route.

Any idea if the Suite Ride promotion is restricted to those with an eligible stay done before February 28? I'm not sure I can find the qualifications.

By using the SPG-Uber #SuiteRide Limited Offer (the “Promotion”), you agree to the following:

The Promotion is a limited offer for SPG Members who have linked their SPG account to Uber and utilize the SPG branded Uber vehicle on February 28, 2015, during the hours of 2pm and 7pm local time in the following cities: New York, San Francisco, London, Dubai and Mexico City.

SPG Members who meet the terms set forth in these Promotion terms and conditions will receive a local, one-way, complimentary ride in the SPG branded Uber vehicle along with special hotel amenities during the ride. In addition, SPG Member will be eligible to receive 15,000 Starpoints.

Approximately 460 SPG Members will be eligible to receive the benefits of the Promotion across the five cities.

SPG Members who have met the qualifications for this Promotion will receive 15,000 Starpoints. The Starpoints will be deposited into their SPG account within 3-4 weeks from February 28, 2015, and upon all verifications and validations from SPG and Uber. The complimentary ride offer is for a local, one-way ride in the SPG branded Uber vehicle during the Promotion.

SPG Members may only take advantage of this Promotion once during the Promotion hours.

Only the SPG Member who has used their Uber account to utilize the SPG branded Uber vehicle is eligible to receive the benefits of the Promotion. All other occupants or passengers in the SPG branded Uber vehicle will not receive the benefits of the Promotion or any of the awards.

The 15,000 Starpoints cannot be transferred, duplicated or sold and there is no cash value.

In the event either SPG or Uber suspect that the use or redemption of the Promotion was in error, fraudulent, illegal or in violation of these SPG-Uber Promotion Terms and Conditions or in violation of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, SPG and Uber reserve the right to withhold or deduct Starpoints or Uber credits from your SPG and/or Uber accounts respectively.

The Promotion may be terminated or modified at any time and without any liability to SPG or Uber.

The Promotion will be used for its intended and lawful purpose and pursuant to the SPG-Uber Benefits Terms and the SPG Terms and Conditions and Uber Terms of Use.

Only one Promotion per SPG Member is allowed.

The Promotion is void where prohibited by law.

I loved the initiative Starwood took with the Delta and Emirates partnership, but for no fault of theirs they weren't particularly useful for me. Uber on the other hand I use almost daily, so I'm very happy to see the arrangement.

Points for nothing is never bad, and I wonder how many I can get before/ if the $10K limit kicks in. Most of my Uber spend is where I mainly live, but a lot is to/ from the airport and so would presumably get multiplied if I'm heading to a Starwood hotel.

Now let's see if I can snag one of those SPG Ubers on Saturday...

Inactivity in *wood account

@ Starwood Lurker..
Will points accrued from uber rides count towards keeping the account active?
In other words, will points from uber rides help keep my account "active"?

I'm curious about the Suite Ride details too too. I really want those 15k. It seems kind of like a "luck of the draw" type situation based on the T&C?

Seeing as you have to have at least one stay per year to earn Starpoints from Uber rides, I think that bit of business will already be taken care of. But, yes, as I have said many times before now...any account activity will work to keep an account active.

I just linked my Uber and SPG accounts to take advantage of the Suite Ride promotion this Saturday (feb 28th) in SF. I havent stayed in a SPG property in 2 years. Will I still be able to get the 15k? Also it doesnt say how long I need to be in the car for? Can I just go down the street and get billed $5 and still get 15k?

No. The SPG cars are some sort of special edition hotel cars and the ride is free. There's only ~100 available in SF so you'll need to get lucky to get one. I suspect the passengers will be randomly chosen during the 2-7pm window.

Having trouble connecting the accounts as well, despite double checking that the email address and last name match on both accounts.

I emailed the SPG rep here, so let's see if this can be sorted quickly!
