So when the SNA's clear, do the hotels get $ from Starwood for the upgrade? Apologies if this has been asked, I don't usually spend a lot of time on the SPG board. thanks!

Right. So I can hoard them and then use them all in retirement. Yup. That's gonna happen.

So you got the upgrade and didn't have to burn an SNA?

Not from your employer's perspective. It doesn't want any scenes on the last day in case you're unhappy or feeling a bit vindictive. Best way to control that is to require an escort.

Maybe more importantly, an employer doesn't want an about to become former employee destroying or stealing property, including computer files, contact lists, etc., as they leave.

We are very OT, but in my case security would escort me to an empty office area as I was almost always the first to arrive. But wouldn't be the first corporate policy that failed to accomplish its goal.

Now back to our regularly scheduled subject...

No matter what SPG chooses to do about SNAs there will be someone unhappy. I'd love to see more transparency in the program to stop the speculation and reduce the upset guests, but it was a step forward. Trying five days earlier is good, within five days of booked would be better, and at time of booking would be best. However, as I want the SPG properties survive, if they have the opportunity to sell a suite (at suite rates) I fully support that!

Suite nights

I would like to see a change in the program whereby the awards rollover and expire at the end of 3 years, similar to the Businessextraa program AA has for their "points". It can be difficult to redeem the SNA and this would give those frequent travelers a greater opportunity to use them...just a thought.

Lost two SNAs, and that's after batting perfectly well until December.

Not happy and requesting changes for confirmed SNA upgrades instead of playing in a lottery.

Haha, that is humorous. You assume you can actually use your SNA's. Mine just collect dust, get declined, or I stay at hotels with no suites. They are basically useless. Any place I am going on leisure is going to be busy when I go. I don't have many chances to do off peak vacations and stuff.

So SNA's are basically a useless benefit for me in the way the current program is designed. At least until SPG decides to compete with Hyatt. SPG knows what they are doing, they designed this program to be minimally effective and very ambiguous in its offerings. It's not a good perk at all. I perceived the value of SNA's to be way higher, but like I said, basically useless...

I lost all ten. Had applied them all to ten nights in florence and Venice and they did not clear. Trip was near end of year so no chance to try again elsewhere. No upgrades onsite, either other than a larger room in florence facing a noisy street that kept us up all night each night. Useless "benefit."

have never had any expire in 3 years, and have always been utilized at exceptional properties. for those that continually have them expire, i believe you are not doing a very good job of planning.

I think SNAs should be like points, as long as you have activities on your account, it should never expire. Someone made a valid point that someone might just save it till the end, or save as much as hundreds of SNAs to use at later date. However, doesn't the point of SNA encourages people to only stay at Starwoods properties? If I'm retired and lost my Plat because of less travels, the only incentive for me to stay loyal to SPG is extra benefits like SNAs. Otherwise, I have zero incentive to only stay at SPG hotels when there are other, sometimes better, products everywhere.

it is silly to view it like that. by that notion, earned awards like free night promotions should remain in your account forever. hotels care more about getting you through the doors in the next 5 weeks than in the next 5 years. by putting time limits on earned awards, it drives traffic in the next quarter, which is what satisfies shareholders and keeps the decision-makers in power.
