I think youse guys should have T-shirts that on the back have BOP in big letters and "Boarding Order Police" in big letters on the front. And, you should be equipped with a soft foam mallet to BOP the evil-doers.
Some years ago, DAL-AUS, old system, full flight, two little old ladies, very well dressed trotted thru the the A line with their C boarding cards. When they got to the Ops Agent, they just smiled sweetly. I was right behind them. I just looked at the Ops Agent and said "They are good aren't they."
My current practice is to just go to the back of the sub-group I am in. I don't want to jockey positions, I just want a seat on the airplane. If someone asks what my number is, I will tell them, otherwise I try to avoid boarding position fun. Life is too short.

???????? I'm a CP holder BUT NOT an A-Lister--my points come from my SW CC------so unless I check-in at T-24 OR pay for EBCI--------I can find myself in the C boarding group very easily.

As an A-lister on full flights I could honestly care less. I guess I may get confused with those "line jumpers" on occasion as I often stand there covering my boarding pass since I don't feel that everyone needs to know my info (like first and last name).

Another common way to hit CP is a Marriott Travel Package plus a few car rentals. (Well, "common" around here and the Marriott board where we talk about these things semi-often.)
Granted, most people probably get there with a mix of flights and non-flight credits. The people to whom a CP is most valuable also tend to take a lot of flights.

Is it really worth the stress?
If you aren't chasing one of those two exit window seats, then I don't see why extreme precision within the A's really matters.
If you need to be in the front of the plane to make a tight connection, you're going to get it. Regardless of whether you prefer window or aisle, you're going to get it. If you are traveling with a group and hope to win the Empty Middle lottery, you're headed towards Row 16-ish to begin with and won't have any trouble getting seated.
At some point in the B's, I can see a bit higher degree of stress - especially if there are a lot of through pax. But I think you A-listers, BS'ers, and Early Birds can pretty much board in whatever order you like and nobody's going to get seriously hosed.
Four of us flew to Chicago this past weekend. Both times, our four BP's spanned a range of about ten. (That's as fast as I can click... ) We just gathered in a group in the mid-A30's and it was a nonissue. There was no need to send one person to stand at A26, another one at A31, etc.

You can charge $120k and fly zero, fly 100 times and charge zero, or anywhere in between. Add car rentals, hotel stays, transfers from Choice Privileges, and transfers from Amex (until June 30 anyway) and pretty soon 100 points comes within reach. When the CO to Amtrak to Choice to RR train was running at full speed, a mere 25k CO miles would take you halfway to a Companion Pass. I cleaned out my CO account and then moved a couple of CO credit card signup bonuses to Choice.

Well, knowing someone's first+lastname and conf number, a malicious person with a smartphone can cancel your reservation...or if I want to make sure A16 doesn't get onboard before me.

Seriously... who cares?! I mean, if you are the 15th, 20th, or 25th person on the plane, you're pretty much getting the exact same selection of seats... You'll get your window or aisle as long as you are in A.

....and there isn't that much else to complain about when flying WN.
Ya, at ONT, it is easy to sit by the 16-20 pole until it's time.

Boarding issues
Maybe it is because I fly on WN twice a week and have way too much time on my hands waiting for flights but I did a study over three months of the supposed diasabled boarding groups out of SMF. Since I am a CP and A lister I usually always get a good seat. what confused me was the amount of folks who needed preboarding then when the plane landed they bolted out of the plane like OJ Simpson in those old Hertz commercials. I tracked these folks and sent the results to SWA customer service. 82% of those folks who preboarded exhibited the land and run behavior. I was told by SWA that they have to take a persons word that they need pre boarding. I also suggested that in the interest of these folks safety if they require extra time boarding then they should probably stay on the plane till the others have deplaned so they have plenty of time to get off of the plane without being pushed or in a clump of folks. SWA told me they could not do that as well. Surprisingly after I received the email this arbritary pre boarding came to a sudden halt and the incidence of this activity has dramatically reduced. Coincedence? I would encourage all of you who are frusted to write to the SWA custmer service and voice your issues.
