I've rented with sixt 3 times this year only, this is what I've received:
1. MUC Airport - booked LDAR, received an A8 4.2 TDI - OMG, I almost had an orgasm driving it... slamming the gas at 180 km/h, the car pulls more than the 730d I had next from 100 km/h.
2. FRA Airport - booked LDAR, received a 730d... nice set of rims. It was a beauty... just not fast enough.
3. MUC Airport - booked LDAR, received an A6 3.0 TDI S-type (only the exterior was S-type... the actual car was the standard A6). It was brand new...

I'm picking up a car in MUC in a couple of days to vacation in Austria & Switzerland and reserved a LDAR. I'm going to call the day before and I don't know if I should ask for an Audi A8 or a BMW 535/525.
I will be off the highway more than on it and I will be doing a lot of mountain passes including Stelvio Pass so a car with good handling & cornering is more important than top speed on the autobahn for me.
I assume the A8's have AWD? Do the BMW 535/525?
Thanks.

Sixt now also has the new Lexus LS600h super hybrid (445 HP).
I'm tempted to trade my current BMW 635d rental for one of those. I could get my hands on one this Thursday.
They also have quite a lot Audi S8, Mercedes SL500 etc.

guys, be careful, you are all exceeding the 75.000 insurance limit with these car not just a bit. the s350 at sixt is already with extras close to 90.000.
SL350, CL500, S8 and so on are way above 100.000.
which means you are risking 25.000 to 50.000
yes, the white Audis S8 are more than beautiful, but... if the car is stolen or has total damage... you wont be renting cars for some time in the future
btw, sixt has 530xd (4wheeldrive), but quite rare.
many of the audi a6 are 2.7tdi. these do not have 4wheeldrive

I have had two A 8 with the 3.0 TDI before, which were not as nice as the 4.2 TDI engine.

I'm back from vacation and Sixt MUC gave me a nearly new black BMW 530d on my LDAR rental. I tried to get an AUDI A8 on the phone and at the counter but they couldn't find me one.
The BMW was a lot of fun in the Swiss and Austrian alps with the sport mode and Dynamic Traction Control on. I saw an Audi A8L in a parking lot and it was a beautiful car but I'm not disappointed. I only got to open up to 170km/h on the German motorway north of Munich before hitting construction traffic.

Sixt vs Avis/Hertz
are you sure you are not using the 35% platinum rate and the 35% (L3) International discount rate? yes, in this case platinum rate is more expensive for weekends. (but not for a whole week)
the 2 rates are calculated on different base rates. (for whatever reason only sixt will know)

Is there any discount code i could use?

Oh yes, a really great car! ^ I got one three weeks ago for a long weekend! Great way of driving, especially as my routing was nearly 99% on highways.
Was very happy to get this car as my small local station even made the effort to get it from another, bigger station. Sweet!

As a Sixt Platinum what car can I expect to get at MUC Airport when reserving an LDAR? I will be picking the car up on a Friday morning during Oktoberfest if that makes any difference. Do I have a good chance of an upgrade to XDAR? Any specific cars I should ask for? Thanks.

That's correct, no limit in case of accepting Sixt's insurance. But sixtisbest was talking about the insurance limit of the M&M creditcard (with business package) offered in Germany which features a comprehensive collision coverage. Some other creditcards do have it too, e.g. Amex Platinum. So most of the times there is no need to accept the rental company's insurance; this adds up to quite some savings over time...
