Cars at Munich Airport
So how's the car at Munich airport now? (Last time I got a car there was JAn 07 when I get a 520d)
heard that they have C30 and 535d now. Is that true? and any other new cars recently?

They still didn't have the 535d at MUC a few weeks ago. They even didn't have the 650 coupe I ordered, so I settled with a 630i convertible (but for a FDMR rate). My local station also had a few Mercedes CLS 320d, which were quite nice, I drove one of them for several weeks, then switched to a BMW 530d.
However, according to my local station, new interesting cars are in the pipeline at Sixt, including Audi S5, Mercedes GL, BMW 135 etc.

I have seen the GL320CDI at at least 3 airports in germany, not that rare.
The C30 has sometimes an 1.6 petrol engine. (I think only the 1.4 Golf I had today is worse)
630 and 650 is the same for sixt, its more likely the convertible is a 630 and the coupe is a 650.
In general munic has the biggest choice and is not too fussy about upgrades.

Best Munich station for renting BMW?
Hello everyone.
Planning a summer vacation driving around Germany and Italy this summer, flying in to Munich airport (MUC).
At home I currently drive a BMW 5 series (and I am very pleased with it^), and the main reason for choosing Sixt is to able to rent a BMW.
So, what Sixt stations are the best to use to increase the possibillity to get a BMW for my rental with code LDAR? My hopes are that I will receive a 6 cylinder car. Gasoline or diesel, what is to be preferred in Germany?
On the web-site I see several stations listed for Munich in addition to Munchen airport, and some of them have BMW in their name, such as Munchen BMW Frankfurter ring,Munchen BMW Mitte etc. Do the stations with BMW in their name carry BMW exclusively, or are they just located close to a BMW facory/plant?
I have read the flyertalk forums for a while, and I would like to take the opportunity in my first post to thank all of the posters sharing all their knowledge.

Welcome to FT!
I would hope for a 530d and settle for a 525d. The new 525ds with the brand new automatic transmission are absolutely impressive. Just had one a couple of weeks ago and didn't want to give it back.
Your best bet is of course MUC airport, but there is the extra airport service fee.
So what I suggest (I assume you arrive by air) is, to make 2 reservations, one at the airport for 24 hours and a second one at the most convenient location for your further travel plans. When you get to the second station just tell them you want to keep this car. They can check it in and rent it out to you again in a few minutes. I have done this hundreds of times, always works except in the few occasions when they have a manufacturers recall or mandatory check.
If you don't like this procedure and want to go straight forward, I recommend making a reservation for Munich East (Ost). Call them approx. one day before your pick up and ask nicely to reserve a BMW 5 for you. You have to call the central service number, but there you can ask to be transfered to any station you want to talk to directly.
Hope you get what you are looking for.

looking at the current fleet at sixt... ldar is more likely to result in a e280cdi
but munic airport also has a lot of xdar... maybe you can persuade them to give you a 730d. (when I was there 2weeks ago they had probably 5x audi a8 3.0tdi)
otherwise I can only recommend the way "ulev" suggested.
btw, the 5series at europcar are either 520d sedane or 530d estate.
but the majority is e220cdi or worse: e200komp.
in the end its luck and difficult to influence
but the e280cdi hat a map with the navigation (which hasnt been the case 6months ago), so that wouldnt be too bad either, even though I admit the 530d is much better

Hi roarmom,
the Sixt Station named with BMW are inside of a BMW retailer.
At these Sixt stations you will only get a BMW (OK, also a MINI).
If you want to get a BMW, choose one of these stations.
The best way is, as suggested by ulev, to make a reservation at the Airport and a second one at one of these BMW-Sixt stations. You will have a comfortable transfer to your Hotel and latest after the change of the car you will have a BMW.

Does anybody have experience with the sixt station at FDH (Friedrichshafen airport)? My reservation for the upcoming weekend is for LDAR, booked under the Platinum/SEN rate as usual.
At this outstation I think an upgrade is quite unlikely so what's the most likely car here for this class? BMW 525/530 or Merc E280? Hopefully the first one; so far I always ended up with a BMW for my rentals at FRA airport.
Any experience?

Can anyone share any experiences with the Munich City Stachus location? It will be the most convenient location for me and my primary concerns are with the availability of nice cars (A BMW 1er or 3er would be ideal) and hassle given on rental and return (not looking to have a cleaning fee charged or have the car examined with a microsope) so I'm willing to move the reservation if there's a better choice.
Also, what should I expect to get when requesting a navigation system? I have seen mentions of a portable Tomtom unit but do I also have a chance of getting integrated navigation?
I'd also like to share the discount link I found from United: http://www.sixt.com/partner/united/. It doesn't save much for the Stachus location but offers significant savings at other locations for my dates.

in contrast to europcar it is very rare that you get an external navigation system, usually they are integrated.
3series exist only with sat nav as far as I have seen.
I only had one rental once at stachus, kind of tricky to find the entrance for returning the car. but when I was there they didnt make it complicated. gave me a volvo xc70 for cxmr rental (with sixt plat)
in that area it is the biggest station in munic I think, therefore biggest choice of cars, so I would stick with it.
