FLL - Booked ICAR. Given Nissan Versa - No key fob, no power window, no power side mirror. Was told Versa is ICAR despite website stating Versa is CCAR and even stating website has it listed in error.

Is Sixt agent just misinformed/flat out lying?

Told her that I've had an ICAR without key fob, power window, or power side mirror for Hertz/National. She finally relented and assigned a Countryman (IFAR).

Hi there,

I am in the final stages of planning my trip from FRA. I wanted to check to see if there would be extra charges for driving the car into other countries. I have not finalized the trip but was thinking of visiting the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Austria. Are any of these countries off limits? What about Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands?

I happened to see the above post and was wondering if there is a hot hatch class with a manual transmission would be ideal, but an A45AMG sounds like lots of fun!

Also curious what is available in the CPMR class?

Thanks!
Fletcher

Hi all,

I have made a reservation in AMS next week and wondering what vehicles this location normally has under PDMR?

I would prefer a BMW with a larger engine like the 535i or better, is there any way to make a request?

Thanks in advance.

Sixt at LAX?

As I wright this I am standing at Sixt LAX and waiting for a car that they do not have.
There are three other parties and, like me, they have booked FFAR. Sixt dont have a single car in that category to give out.

I booked and prepaid my rental 2 months ago and today at 1900 I showed up to collect the car. Apparently this came as a total surprise to Sixt??
I have 4 guests with me and we really need to be somewhere else now, not standing here waiting for a car they dont have.
But the worst thing is that people are starting to yell at the poor girls at the counter. They obviously cant help that Sixt didnt provide the cars in the lot.

All thumbs down, Sixt! I am very disappointed and I still dont know when I will get a car.

(as I wrote this, one partie walked pass and they had to settle for a smaller car)

EDIT:
After about an hour a guy, who came in after me, with a small child, almost went bananas....and to my huge surprise Sixt managed to produce a Suburban. For him, not for me.
So thats how one is supposed to do it I guess. Scream until you get what you want.

Another thing that amazed me is that I got a mail from Sixt just prior to when I left home saying that they are working with my car and it will be there for me when I get there and thank you for choosing Sixt and so on. Some hours later I got an sms saying the same thing AND STILL THEY SEEM SUPRISED and almost bothered when I do show up.

So I have to ask Sixt; why do you send out those reassuring messages?

edit 2:
So now, the morning after I am here again to pick up the promised Suburban and....drumrolls....its not ready :(

Edit 3: After an additional hour I actually got the Suburban. But then I had to wait another 30 minutes so that they could get the paperwork ready. For a carswap....

I had the same issue this past weekend at LAX. I had prepaid for an XCAR and when I arrived the Sixt employees told me they didn't have any XCARs left. Their only reason was that they had a lot of XCAR pickups that day, which didn't make sense to me. Why offer the reservation if you're not going to hold the car? If they only had one car left for XCAR, I wouldn't fault them, but to me it seems like something wasn't done properly here. In any case, the thing was that the gentleman didn't even offer an apology - just went to check what cars they had, and laid out my options for me. Not the end of the world, and I wouldn't say it was a horrible experience at LAX, but they seem a bit disorganized here. I do know that this is a fairly new location as well, and I'm hoping that it will improve over time.

Now, I happened to be stopping by San Diego during my trip and gave customer service a call to see if doing an exchange was possible. They recommended I swing by the Sixt there to see what they could do, and when I did, Mark and his team at the San Diego office went above and beyond to coordinate with customer service and the LAX office to get me into the class I had originally reserved. It wasn't this office's fault that I was in this predicament, nor did I expect them to spend this much effort in helping me out, but it was much appreciated. The SD folks also commented that they didn't understand why the LAX office wouldn't have an XCAR for me if I booked an XCAR (regardless of whether or not they actually agree with you, it's good to feel like the employees are on your side). Sixt San Diego gave me the best customer service experience I've had at any car rental agency, and for a location that's only been open for a few weeks, that's saying a lot. This rental wasn't without its inconveniences, but the San Diego office really helped to turn the overall experience into a positive one.

Hi Drivenair,

The PDMR category at AMS includes BMW 5 series and Mercedes Benz E class. We do not guarantee make and model I'm afraid, as our fleet is constantly changing due to availability and demand. However, if you'd like to send me a private message with your reservation number, I'll be happy to make a request for a BMW with a larger engine for you. It's still not a guarantee, but the branch will see the request and endeavour to provide you with the vehicle of your choice.

I hope this helps to solve your query.

Thanks, Jess.

Hi pokernick,

I'm really sorry to hear that your booked vehicle was not ready for you upon arrival. Were you able to collect the vehicle in the end?

If you'd like to send me a private message with your reservation number, I'll be happy to look into if there's something that we can do for you in this instance.

Thanks, Jess.

Hi Sixt, three questions

1) Is there any way to add my airline programme number to my booking profile so I don't have to remember to add it each time? I see that I can go half way through OLCI and add it manually and it seems to have saved, but is there a way to not have to do this?

2) I am a bit concerned by the situation at LHR, you seem to have Sixt next to the petrol station opposite Hatton Cross (which I have used before) There is mention of an office at T5 in the Sofitel and then there is another different address for returns. So there are 3 Sixt sites? I have a booking next week and was looking forward to being able to run up to the Sofitel and manage it there. But nowhere did it ask me online which terminal I am arriving at. It does ask for flight number though which I entered. Is it magic? Does it know which terminal I arrive at by the flight number or what? I don't want to find that I go to the Sofitel desk and I have a booking at the wrong Sixt and there is no shuttle service from T5. Can you clarify please?

3) Finally, my rental confirmation says "0km included" I presume that means unlimited kms included right?

Hi JohnnyColombia,

In order to answer your questions fully, please can you send me a private message with your reservation number? That way I'll be able to answer you as fully as possible.

Thanks, Jess.

Yes, I got in the end and I have updated my post above. I noticed I also got a 25% discount even though I said thats not what I want.
Apart from not having a car for me, I must say that the sixtgirl on the first day was really nice. She was under heavy pressure since there were so many customers there that night that did not accept the Tahoe for the simple reason that it does not accomodate 7 persons with bags.

IŽll send you my reservation number.

JohnnyColombia Oct 7, 2014 8:09 am

Just want to add that Jess fixed my LHR uncertainty and confirmed that it is not possible to load partner bonus preferences into a booking profile on an express card.

Thanks as always for Sixt's stellar presence here on FT

hotwire Sixt express service

i booked a car through hotwire and am trying to sign up for sixt express service. It keeps on asking me for a Voucher number/ promotional code.

Anyone know what this is?

I have interest in renting an M5 for an upcoming trip to Berlin at the end of November, but the mileage cap is killing me. Is there any way to purchase a higher amount of miles per day?

Are there any specials on either the M3 or M5?

Does the platinum discount apply to either model?

Also, I thought I read that some locations are cheaper than others, can anyone shed some light on this? Avoid train stations and airports?
