On a 3600 mile flight (SIN-SYD or SIN-MEL is roughly that distance, isn't it). 3.6 points for C and 5.4 for F.
Essentially this is already in place, although the factors are not constant. You can qualify for PPS (and TPP and LPP) based on credited miles flown. For PPS it's 50,000 miles, TPP 500,000 and LPP 1,875,000 miles.

Yes, but my caculation makes use of sector points for qualifying puposes.

1000000 miles would give 1000 sector points and LPP status. <--- fairer for the customer.

How is this fairer for the customer than the current system of PPS qualification based on PPS miles?

See above the calculations. It gives points also for very short flights.

Two examples:[U]

Under the current system to get to LPP a SIN-XXX where XXX is 481 miles from SIN flyer needs 1875000/481, i.e. a whopping 3898 SIN-XXX segments oneway, for simplification I left status and class of service bonus out.

And XXX is not Pattaya or Bangkok, just a fictional SQ destination to illustrate the system differences most clearly.

Under my system he would need the 1000 sectors. 1000/0.36 = 2777 in C
1000/0.48 = 2083 - where 0.36 and 0.48 are calculated based on the fixed factors of 0.00075 sector points per mile flown for C and 0.001 for F.

A SIN - PER Flyer needed so far 1000/1.5=666 flights in F. (Because it is just under the 2485 cutoff.)
Or to qualify with miles 1875000/2420 = 774 - so he is better off qualifying with 666 segments.

Under my system in F he gets per flight 2420*0.001 = 2.4 sector points per flight and needs to qualify:

1000/2.4 = 416.

This is fairer and still 416 segments SIN-PER gives SQ a lot of revenue in F.

How is this fairer for the customer than the current system of PPS qualification based on PPS miles?

A flyer with 1000000 miles in F on SQ is for sure LPP. Under the current system on miles on needs 1875000.

The system is fairer as there is no cutoff deciding whether one gets 1.5 points for a flight that may be just 100 miles shorter than one which yields 3.
Under my system the shorter flight might get 2.4 points and the 100 miles longer one 2.5.

Hope this helps as a clarification.

My question was not how your proposal is fairer than the current sector-based qualification method. My question was how your proposal is fairer than the current mileage-based qualification method.

As far as I can tell, your proposal just lowers the bar compared to the current mileage-based qualification method. Fairness appears to me to be exactly equal. What am I missing?

I agree with zvezda here, flamboyant 1.
Using your 'proposed system' would be redundant to the mileage (re)qualification criteria of PPS since your sector calculation would be based on mileage - which SQ is already using as an option for PPSes to requalify on.
It would only be lowering the bar.

Exactly, my system makes the mileage requirement equal to the points because of the fixed factor. It is fairer (easier to qualify) to the customer, qualification hurdle is lowered for those who used to qualify the hard way on miles because they fly often very short segments.

fairer = easier in this case, yes, that's what I actually meant.

But that would be the same as just lowering the mileage requirement of LPP to 1,000,000 miles. No need to bother with sectors.

Indeed, it just sounds more sophisticated with sectors...
anyway, you and zvezda are correct, of course

Now if only you can persuade AmEx Germany to offer SQ PPS as a Centurion benefit...

Unfortunately, JNB-CPT vv. can not be booked separately, only with an immediate connection to/from SIN.

And some flights SIN - Europe are unfortunately just too short to get the max. credits:

SIN-CPH 6199 miles

SIN-VIE 6035 miles

I think PPS sector system really helps to make it easier to qualify/re-qualify for PPS. 3-4 trips in a year will do... 1-2 to US, and 2-3 regional flights to India/China/Japan/Korea. It's just that it will surely take longer time to qualify as TPP due to the miles requirement.

A few questions / clarification /advice..apologies if this is basic but I still a newbie wrt RTW & PPS

(Q1) Can the routes mentioned in this thread be done in reverse and still get the same PPS sectors? [ I think they should work as they are 'connected to' SQ flights but just want to make sure.] I did an archive search and based on ..

(Q2) To ensure SQ PPS credit to work, I also have to ensure that the ticket is issued by SQ? Is this correct?

      Thanks.
