The Private Room is only for those departing and connecting to SQ F class.
The First Class lounge is for those connecting from First Class on Singapore Airlines, those flying First Class on Star Alliance partners, PPS members, etc.
You are allowed one guest into the first class lounge as a First Class passenger, but not into the Private room itself.

FAQ:
Q1: Hi, is there an official site with access rules for the TPR?
A1: There’s no official site other than stating the Private Room is for SQ F.

Q2: I'm flying XXX - SIN in First class and then SIN - YYY in Business/Economy class. Will I have access to TPR based on my inbound First class ticket?
A2: The ability to use TPR on arrival, and when connecting between flights is unpublished, but was mentioned in a Q&A session with Singapore airlines in 2017.
Just show your inbound boarding pass and be departing same day, or overnight, and you’ll be welcomed in.
So do not throw out your inbound boarding pass!

Q3: Where is The Private Room located?
A3: Terminal Three, After Customs & Immigration, Level 3 Near to Gates A. It is accessed which through the main SilverKris Lounge.

Q4: When is it open?
A4: It is open whole day, except for a brief closure from 0230 - 0530 hours.

Q5: Is it open to other first class passengers?
A5: Passengers traveling in First Class on Star Alliance partner airlines, such as Lufthansa to Frankfurt, SWISS to Zurich (or the now discontinued United to Hong Kong/ ANA to Tokyo) are not permitted to use this lounge.

No chance on your first question. Not sure about paid access but I believe the answer is no.

So what you are saying is that you would have booked First Class if it would have been offered? As it is not you are checking if they would still grant access to TPR based on your intent?

Interesting train of thought, however; it doesn't work like that and if it did the TPR would be swamped.

Anyways, a clear no & no to both questions. Not offered by SQ. I think I saw F lounge access for cash offered by EY or EK only.

You could try to switch to F on the one-stop LAX flight though and with an arriving F boarding pass you could access TPR even if flight to MLE is in Biz.

Thanks for the response!

Yes, if that route had 1st I would booked that on points. Could have gone LAX-NRT-SIN in 1st, but I am not interested in more air time and airport transfers. The “basic” lounge will be good enough. But always like to explore all my options.

Is there a way to change the route code to F? I presumed those were set based on the airline?

Thanks
TD

I know different strokes for different folks but I always opt for the LAX-NRT-SIN route in F. I don't really like the J seats on the LAX-SIN route.

I am guessing you don’t travel with a nine year old? 😀

As a nine year old I was flying London-Brussels-Dubai-Bangkok-Singapore and London-Rome-Bombay-Singapore (that's how planes routed back then). Pretty sure 4 flights were less boring than 1

Of course! But we're talking a 9 year old having the opportunity to go on an exciting adventure. Flying first class is hardly an imposition for a child... amenity kits, PJs, SQ teddy bears, doting crew that will make it a flight to remember

No teddy bears anymore. Have been twice in Private room I still do not understand why that is so special comparing with F section. Maybe smaller but last time there were families(no need to write from where, since ) and small kids were running around and talked very loudly.

Agree. There is nothing special with TPR. I find it very sterile, and the food never looks 'fresh' on the buffet (probably due to the lack of through traffic).

Why do buffet dining at TPR? I plan to take advantage of the dining room.

I don't! But I look at the food there + the menu and it doesn't immediately spark my appetitie for anything from the kitchen. I don't eat lobster - which I guess is attractive to many folk. (TBH I prefer a really good local restaurant or food court out in Singapore proper.)
