All very interesting!

It pays to be an informed potential customer - thank you FT-members for providing new insights

Two things will happen:

Each mile bought this way will lead LM to devalue and

Each mile bought this way makes OMAAT more money AND will contribute to him posting more pumpy sales "content" like this.

I doubt that each mile purchased by me this way will lead Lifemiles to devalue, as they have been devaluing for reasons that have little or nothing to do with these mileage purchases.

Buying Lifemiles whether or not by means that may pump up OMAAT remains a real case of buyer beware. And its been this way for some time and then some with AV/Lifemiles. Not emphasizing enough the the risk of buying these miles is what can do people a disservice. But as demonstrated in many corners of the travel and miles and point space highlighting such risks is not necessarily appreciated; and this is so whether or not there is any direct financial interest being challenged by emphasizing the risks.

I have to watch out for my own interests/preferences. If my doing so pads OMAATs bank account a very little bit, it wont be skin off my back. What will cost me is is if I dont take advantage of whatever discount there is to buy the very miles/points which I would likely be considering buying anyway.

I hear you on the audiences being different.

A smaller market also means its harder to replenish an audience when audience members end up alienated by getting burned in this space; and so the risk of hanging out the audience is probably even worse for a business in this space in the UK than in the US.

If I were OMAAT, I would probably put a big warning notice about consumers getting into business with AV/Lifemiles. But I dont have a long standing commercial/business relationship history with Lifemiles a relationship OMAAT continues to have with a party to which he may feel an emotional obligation due to what they have meant for him over the years.

I noticed the week summary article didn't have the usual few paragraphs saying what he was up to

Maybe he's having some personal time

Between having a very young child — with a massive RSV surge (beside other infections) again increasingly hitting young children — and his mother’s health condition, I would be very surprised if he didn’t find himself having to de-prioritize the OMAAT work from time to time.

Ive stopped reading his blog as I dont really find any of the content useful. Honestly, I dont blame Ben hes getting older and slowing down so theres not as much to report on. Not trying to hate on him and hes been very informative to me from 2012-2018 I would say.

Im just curious, unless you love being sold credit cards repeatedly, whats peoples draw to continue reading his blog?

With a blog reader app, it is very easy to ignore posts with titles that are about credit cards and only read posts that interest you. Similar to how you can ignore many fora/threads on Flyertalk if you find them unuseful, and continue to read those you do.
I got rid of TPG from my feed years ago because I found the ratio of useful content to sales pitches had decreased. Unlike TPG, when OMAAT has non-marketing content, it is written by someone who at least has more than a passing familiarity with travel.

My curiosity lies more in the people that post here how terrible the content is, and appear to be monitoring it like a hawk and complain when there isnt enough of it!!

I will agree with you there. I ignore or filter out the credit card (or quite frankly most of the mileage related) posts. OMAAT has some pretty good travel reviews, in my opinion, and has some useful non-marketing content. I like it compared to others like TPG because it seems to start with a base assumption that the reader knows what an airplane is or has traveled before.... TPG and some others, I just can't when they dumb things down to (and I'm just making up something out of the air here) an article about the latest travel hack being that if you check in online you can get a lower boarding number on Southwest.

I specifically said non-marketing content. I consider those posts to be marketing content.
