What is Cod Sashimi? UA's inflight entree
I am really curious about this menu item as well. The sides are Italian, so sashimi doesn’t make sense. I wonder if it is a crudo? Are there any willing test subjects out there? 😀

“Is United really offering raw cod as an entre, or is this menu-writing nonsense that just doesn't make any sense?”
Saves on oven energy. Can
also be served on UAX flights with no ovens. Win!

I don't have a photo, but it is just a piece of white fish (may or may not be cod) that is cooked. I have no idea why the menu says sashimi.

I had the cod the other day ex-Germany as well. Mine was a bit on the firm side but still ok. Alongside the sauce - spiced up with some Tabasco - it was quite enjoyable.
The "sashimi" wording is indeed very confusing. My first question to the FA was then, if this was a cold dish.
Was shocked to see the cauli-sugary "salad" thing back. THIS. HAS. TO. GO. NOW !!!

The only thing I think UA was thinking with the word Sashimi (and thinking wrongly) is the other fish UA serves has been outright pre-cooked and warmed in the ovens versus the cod which is not pre-cooked and is raw - but still warmed in the ovens. The cod is previously frozen - they have no choice but to warm in the oven but I wouldn't use the word Sashimi.

Getting way off topic - it’s still Sashimi if it’s raw fish just warmed in a oven (not cooked). It’s just not normally served that way. As opposed to cooked salmon reheated in an oven.
Saying warmed raw fish isn’t as sexy sounding as saying sashimi.

Personally, I would like to see a photo of this mystery dish if anyone dares to try it....or United can reprint the menu to call it what it probably is: "baked cod", which probably sounds less sexy than "sashimi". I've had sushi and sashimi on a flight, specifically ANA, but it's not something I would trust in the hands of a United crew, sorry.

Being a frequent visitor to Japan and its quality sushi and sashimi restaurants, as well as a consumer of sashimi in other locales, I've never had, nor seen oven-warmed fish served as a sashimi. Even the aburi preparation does not involve an oven, but a blow-torch or fire, not something we want to see in the galley of an airplane. It's either totally raw, aburi-prepared with usually one side having its surface cooked by fire, or pickled (i.e. mackerel), or it's just not sashimi - so United printing 'cod sashimi' on the menu either means the fish is served raw between slightly chilled and room temperature, or it's just not sashimi.

Now - to me if you pay $7k to fly to the EU from NA and want some sashimi and you get cooked Cod -- yeah -- that sucks - especially when EU / JP/ ME airlines get it...
