It's a D fare, the availability is whatever is offered in D class on a particular flight (although availability can vary by point of sale). (There are some booking code exceptions, such as access to A class where D is not sold.)

It will be the same availability as if you booked an overpriced LON-LON DONE6 for departure this afternoon. This fare is not being treated specially.

Yes, but that directly contradicts what I was told. I asked for HKG-LHR-CPT to finish and was told no. She didn't even try, just said it was backtracking and I couldn't do it. Never said anything about doing Europe-DOH-Africa. She would only let me do Asia-DOH-Africa or HKG-JNB.

I'll call back tomorrow.

A very interesting thread. Please post any successful experiences of starting in MPM, including any overnight visa problems.

Just got off the phone with a very nice gentleman at AA RTW desk, let's call him Mr. T. First, I note that he couldn't have been nicer.

He said that "American is not issuing" any tickets which touch Africa and have segments between Europe and Middle East in the itinerary. We reviewed the rules together; and he saw my point. Put me on hold and checked with the "tariff" desk. He agrees that it is ambiguous, but said that this is the position that AA is taking. Very apologetic. He said that there have been discussions about changing the wording in this section of the rules; and he hopes that it occurs this week since they are receiving a lot of calls on this.

Gave me the number for BA RTW desk; but they are a Monday-Friday operation.

So back to the drawing board on the itinerary, I guess.

In general, when the operating carrier switches equipment so that your booked class is no longer available, it's treated as a schedule change and you are usually allowed to re-route to maintain the ticketed cabin. This has been my experience.

Did consult with the better agents per recommendation of our former favorite AA agent Sarah. AA said that the text in 4(h) that refers to 4(e) 3.1.3 or 3.2.3 is still valid. Of course there is no 4(e) 3.1.3 or 3.2.3 any more. The agents did say to try BA or QR. The oneworld website stated that the itinerary was valid, but hangs up when trying to price it. Thoughts???
I ran into this at the beginning of the year booking CPT-DOH- ... - BCN-DOH-CPT. The AA RTW people insisted in was invalid. Mindpearl in S.A. agreed is was valid, but went round and round with AA in DFW before finally just rating and issuing it themselves.

I think many of us are eager to learn first-hand reports of this. I'm planning on an ex-MPM xONEx, using JNB-MPM for positioning. I'm wondering how early I should get to MPM to have time for whatever is needed.

Just curious about your SAN-YYC. That's the AA code on Westjet? Why do that rather than book actual AA and fly in domestic F/J rather than Y?

Many of us do this every year. I've even done a second one in the same year. I almost always book about 10-11 months before my first flight, using dummy dates for every subsequent flight, and then change as the booking window opens up. Usually, D is easy to come by when booking far out. There have been occasions where D is not available (e.g., HKG-HKT or HKG-DPS or sometimes QF routes). You can waitlist for D.

I'll post back here. If I can get an itinerary put together and approved, I'm trying to do one towards the end of this week. I'd love to know the ground setup at MPM for transfers, etc.

Yikes! Where are you seeing that it's Westjet? It comes up as operated by AA on the OW booking system and Kayak.

On ExpertFlyer the only AA SAN-YYC flight is AA8194 (operated by WS)

Sadly for you, AA's pricing department will likely knock this back - because codeshare flights operated by non-Oneworld partners are forbidden (except for QF flights operated by JQ(JetStar)

Ah, my mistake. Good
So you are on connecting flights, not the non-stop
Those flight numbers look fine (high numbers, such as AA8194 indicate a codeshare)

So with everyone booking these currently cheap southern africa tickets via the RTW desk in Dallas, I assume that no one has had any issues getting the correct pricing or needing "local" cards?

I purchased two ex-MPM DONEx last week

One via an Australian travel agent - correctly priced in AUD, and I used my Australia credit to pay (ticket issued by QF)

The other via the AA ATW desk, again correctly priced in my chosen currency (AUD); I telephoned AA's Sydney office to pay, again using my Australian credit card (this transaction has yet to go through - AA ticketing has not yet issued my ticket). No issues were raised with getting it priced in my chosen currency and paying in Australia.

Breaking: The nonsense in Para 4(h) about "the backtracking provisions in Para 4(e) 3.1.3.or 3.2.3." is being removed!

The QF filed fare rule is already updated. 4(h) line about *segments between Europe and Middle East are not permitted if... - no longer exists!
Code:
H.A MINIMUM OF 3 AND MAXIMUM OF 16 SEGMENTS
INCLUDING SURFACE SEGMENTS BETWEEN ANY 2
AIRPORTS ARE PERMITTED FOR THE ENTIRE
  JOURNEY.
FREE FLIGHT SEGMENTS WITHIN EACH CONTINENT ARE
  LIMITED AS FOLLOWS -
  AFRICA 4
  ASIA 4
EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST 4 - NOT MORE THAN 2 OF WHICH
MAY BE BETWEEN THE UK AND ALBANIA/ALGERIA/
  BULGARIA/CROATIA/CYPRUS/GREECE/LIBYA/ISRAEL/
  MIDDLE EAST/MOROCCO/ROMANIA/RUSSIA WEST OF THE
  URALS/TUNISIA/TURKEY/UKRAINE.
  NORTH AMERICA 6
  SOUTH AMERICA 4
  SOUTHWEST PACIFIC 4

4(e)3 (Intercontinental departure/arrivals) has been rewritten/clarified too. It now reads:
Code:
3. TWO PERMITTED IN EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST,
A. FOR TRAVEL ORIGINATING IN AFRICA,
//AFRICA-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-RTW-EUROPE/MIDDLE,
  EAST-AFRICA//,
- ONE OF THE VISITS TO EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST MUST,
BE A TRANSFER WITHOUT STOPOVER BETWEEN AFRICA,
AND THE PREVIOUS/NEXT CONTINENT,
- IF TRAVEL TO/FROM EUROPE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS,
THE ITINERARY MAY NOT INCLUDE MAURITIUS/SOUTH,
 AFRICA.,

B. FOR TRAVEL ORIGINATING OTHER THAN AFRICA,
//EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-AFRICA-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST//,
- ONE OF THE VISITS TO EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST MUST,
BE A TRANSFER WITHOUT STOPOVER BETWEEN AFRICA,
 AND THE PREVIOUS/NEXT CONTINENT,
- IF TRAVEL TO/FROM EUROPE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS,
THE ITINERARY MAY NOT INCLUDE MAURITIUS/SOUTH,
 AFRICA.,

Each member airline files their *ONEx fares - copies of each other of course - but it takes time for all of them to go in. QF is usually first and their rules are already filed. oneworld.com not updated yet. Haven't looked for any other changes.

Discuss!
