Contemporary Luxury hotel in Paris

I am heading towards Paris for my upcoming hard-earned vacation. I've decided that the Palace-style hotels like George V or Plaza are a bit too heavy for my taste. So I am now looking for contemporary luxury hotel in Paris but there seems to be surprising few of them. Now considering the Burgundy Hotel which looks very nice in the website and has good reviews in TA. Any one have any experience about this hotel?

Also any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.

The Park Hyatt Vendome might suit you, I find it quite refreshing amongst hotels in Paris, particularly their medium level suites which are like a Parisian apartment with lots of contemporary touches like limestone baths. I ignored it for years due to the Park Hyatt branding but was pleasantly surprised at how good and Parisian it is.

The Park Hyatt is a great hotel, but I don't think OP will like that one either (same crowd/style as the Plaza Athne). I have three suggestions.

Fouquet's Barrire
Le Burgundy
Renaissance Vendme

The Mandarin Oriental Paris opens this summer (just down the street from the Renaissance). That may be a good option for OP if the travel dates fit.

it is indeed strange and not to mention telling that the Raffles Paris does not immediately spring to mind !! - esp with its ever so trendy designs
another suggestion could be the Hospes group's Hotel Lancaster ...not grand and not new modern but elegant, stylish and cosy .

others you may look at but not grand nor luxury :

- hotel tremoille near the athenee but its a conran venture [ iirc ]

- hotel pershing ....tiny rooms but go for the suites ...an andree putman gem

If all else fails then you shojuld consider the shangri la ..its brand new and its very luxurious

Thanks number_6. I'm actually aware of the Park Hyatt but believe it or not, I have had poor experience at every single hyatt hotel I have tried for the past several years ( 5 times so far, including the supposedly top-end Park Hyatt Shanghai ) that I believed I'm jinxed from staying at this chain So a no no for me.

Hi. Have you stayed at the LeBurgundy before? I'm incline to try this but not too sure yet. I have written to the MO Paris but they couldn't give me a firm date on the opening, only saying it will be announced in April. The website didnt have much details either.

The Raffles Paris decor looks classical to me and kinda like another Parisan Palace hotel. However, the designer is the very contemporary Mr Philip Stark. Confused.

i think the raffles paris would be a nightmare !!! - though i havent tried i can just imagine STARCK !! ....was being facetious ..would not go there !!

even if MO were to open .unless its been given a good 3 months run in i would not touch it either.

if you want a great and hassle free time [ cos you DESERVE IT !! ] ild go for the more tried and tested ...but the park hyatt has its limitations and with your luck with park hyatts and unless you are a premium loyal guest it may not be the best choice nor value.

i like the meurice and le bristol esp so for its location.

otherwise .. i have heard good comments of the grand intercon !!...not in the special luxury sense but a good solid hotel.

tremoille hotel is a conran venture ..more style than substance [ think stockholm and vienna and london ]

if they have done/ at least refurb / touched up the hotel lancaster and the Pershing Hall hotel ...you may want to consider them - suites would be good value

i stayed at the pershing hall a year after it opened ..i thuroughly enjoyed it but its an andree putman designed hotel which i must admit had a lot to do with my rave ....she is a fab fave designer of mine !!! ..so i am biased

Sorry, but Fouquet's Barrire is frightful! Very poorly maintained and with sloppy service. Raffles Royal Monceau, too, is to be avoided.

Currently, apart from Park Hyatt Vendome, which is acceptable rather than inspired, I would not recommend any contemporary Parisian hotel. Maybe MO will put things to right when it opens this summer, or maybe we will have to wait even longer for The Peninsula to set the contemporary trend!

You may want to take a look at Hotel Relais St. Germain. It's more of a four-star boutique than a bonafide five-star property, but I really enjoy it, and have a couple friends who absolutely swear by it. Also, if you're vacationing with a wife/significant other then I think it really hits the whole 'romance and relaxation in Paris' theme well. Great restaurant downstairs, lovely small lobby that feels like a clubby living room. It's also very nicely priced (I've stayed in their terrace suite, which, though not really a suite, was around 400euro and decorated in contemporary style, but not overwhelmingly so). Location is one of the better ones in the city.

Don't book anything smaller than a junior suite though.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. For now I have made reservations at both Renaissance Arch ( budget choice ) and the new Shangri La. Haven't yet made up mind which one.

Hi Ben...
Burgundy is nice and Shangri-la ist lovely....
I am sure you will enjoy Shangri-la

Paris is a lovely city and i bet you will be out and exploring the city everyday..
Best bet.. stay modest in nice botique for your first few days - while exlporing the city and then move to the luxury one on your last journey - so you can really enjoy their property & services...(choose one with spa & pool facility)

Burgundy is the best choice , but here are some other boutique hotels that i found acceptable (which you might know) are :

- Hotel 7 Eiffel Paris (http://www.hotel-7eiffel-paris.com/)
- Hidden Hotel Paris (http://www.hidden-hotel.com/)
- Hotel Beauchamp (http://www.hotelbeauchamps.com) - part of GLA hotels
- Hotel Jules (http://www.hoteljules.com/) - part of GLA hotels
- Le Walt (http://en.lewaltparis.com/)
- Hotel Eres (http://www.ares-paris-hotel.com/)
- Hotel Keppler (http://www.keppler.fr/en/)

Rennaissance / Westin / Sofitel are OK - sometimes even better than the boutique one..

I know you had bad experience with Hyatt - but do love Park Hyatt vandome Paris..
PH Sunday Brunch is great... you should try it... - or the best one at THE RITZ for a royal treat... love their sweets selections...

You might also wanna check out to new edition of Intercontinental in Paris - Intercontinental -avenue Marceau -the style is light and modern... it is more boutique style.. Be Ambassador Member and use the one night Voucher combine when you stay on the week-end - plus upgrade, it is worth it !

Hope it helps -

My friends stayed at http://www.champs-elysees-plaza.com/ and loved it. It's modern (but not too modern), has Hermes toiletries, homey. I haven't been there myself and I'm sure it's not at the same level as legends like George V, Plaza Athenee, etc, but you might want to check it out.
