Okay I do have a question, which it may be answered elsewhere in the thread, so please forgive me.
Let's say the minimum bid comes down to $300......let's say you bid $450. Well, now let's say that a week later, the minimum bid bumps up to $600. Do you need to also bump up your bid to match it? In order to keep your bid strong? |
Did you check to see how many seats are available and I would wait until 3 days before your flight. Check the seats available, the minimum bid and adjust accordingly

Anyone recently bid on SFO-CPH? Interested to hear what cleared.
My flight is midweek next week and the minimum bid for J upgrade is $500. Was initially optimistic a $510 bid would clear, but expert flyer indicates there are only 4 seats left. Not sure exactly how to gauge since the flight is pretty soon, but it doesn’t seem like great odds given the limited availability. Appreciate any thoughts/experiences! |
There is currently 26 available Business Class Seats, with 1 month, 17 days to go.
If we get down to a week or two left, and the upgrade price is $300 or $500, and there is still a fairly good number of available seats...what would you suggest as the bid? |

LAX to CPH Bid to Upgrade 8/26
Just adding a data point and will post my bid outcome after. We purchased economy tickets a month ago from LAX to Bergen via CPH. The min bid for business class (LAX to CPH) has remained at $460 and for prem economy at $200. We bid $600 (2 passengers) and award fares seat map checker is showing 7 seats available and 1 blocked.
Weird thing is the return on 9/2 CPH to LAX shows min bid of $770 with more seats available ( 8 open, 2 blocked). I always thought there was a higher min bid on the US to Europe leg versus the morning flight back from CPH to LAX. On another note, has anyone had any experience with purchasing an extra seat at check in for economy? Last time we flew we tried to do so but when I went to checkout the site wouldn't let us purchase it. Let me know if there are any tips to confirm an extra seat, would like the extra space if our bid to upgrade fails. |
Please help me understand how many points will be credited to a non-SK FF program after winning the bid. Would the booking class change, and miles get credit as per the upgraded class?

Entirely according to your original booking. Oliver2002 looked at the details, and they basically only change your class and seat in the departure control system (hope I put that right) so your boarding pass show the right thing. EB members get a separate posting of the bonus for the upgrade bid, other *A programs gets zilch. |
Can confirm from personal experience the original booking class credits. Makes it much more predictable compared to how LH does it.

I wouldn't trust what you're seeing in terms of open seats, not because it's not accurate, but because there may be other factors. 48 hours out, my EWR-CPH flight still showed 7 open seats. 24 hours out, that had dropped to 2 open seats. Whether that was due to last minute bookings, booked passengers who hadn't bothered to select seats, or due to upgrades of passengers with status, I can't say. The same thing happened on my successful CPH-EWR flight. In both cases, I wasn't notified of my win/loss until just under 6 hours before departure.
On the bolded part above, that would be relatively unlikely, no? If someone books in business class originally, they have the option of selecting the seat at no additional charge, so there wouldn't be much of a reason for them to opt not to select seats, right? |
Just based from my personal experiences, these cabins are typically flying out at full capacity much more often than not, most especially on CPH routings. I have no idea whether by paid, upgraded, or whatever, just that they do fly out full even when “showing” as nearly empty, as close as just a few days out. If you want bsns and have not outright booked it, I strongly suggest you should bid your highest so that you don’t regret bidding it later, especially if you don’t have any EB status that might increase your bid over another’s otherwise equal bid in number. I do believe they will more than likely take the highest, typically more last minute bids, given those are when the threshold is usually at its highest (so higher bids coming in) obviously in an effort to get the most revenue out of them as possible, even moreso on the eastbounds. Of course there are always exceptions to everything…And just humble .02;) Happy travels!;

was your bid successful? and was it from Go or Plus?
Contrary to what seems typical based on this thread, the return (CPH-SFO) ended up being more competitive. Minimum bid was $770. I bid $1,150 and lost. |

The current minimum bid is $500 for the outgoing flight. Should I jump on it or wait till it comes down in price?" You may want to wait. I am flying ORD-ARN on SK946 on 8/17 and for the longest time the min bid was $700. It finally came down to $300 about 10 days ago. I bid $425 (medium bid) and hoping to go from Plus to Business. As of Friday, expert flyer showed 13 open seats in J. |
