1. 2 months in advance of my trip (the day I booked my ticket)
2. Yes, I apply 2-3 times per year, and get it about 50% of the time, sometimes to Eco+, sometimes to Biz.
3. Not at all. I see for the flight I got Eco+ on (I fly tomorrow) that at OLCI, about half the seats in Eco+ are available, but I don't know if that's a good indicator.

Could we all report here:
- When was a flight booked (e.g mine 10/2013)
- When was OT request signed up and what price
- seat availability any available classes before upcoming flight, if possible.
This how one can monitor OT if their prices are going up and so on.

Upgraded to C (from Eco) on CPH-ORD. Paid $466, and did OT the day after I booked my ticket.
Interesting how the upgrade occurred in this case. My flight is on Sunday, and I got an email directly from SAS today on Thursday (6am GMT) with my ETicket Itinerary and Receipt (as a PDF file) and an OptionTown upgrade in the notes. I checked on SK's site and indeed I see I have a seat in C class. OT has not notified me yet about this directly, but I expect I'll get such an email in a day or two.
Different from my upgrade to Y+ about a week ago, where instead my booking for that flight disappeared in my Expedia itinerary (see my previous post) and I got no ETicket Receipt from SK. I wonder if the inconsistency is due to different procedures for a Y+ vs C upgrade?
In any case, the upgrade to C is appreciated, even at that cost. While the SK's business class seats lack the amenities of some competitors, on a day flight the big benefit to me is I can get work done the entire time.

According to sas.dk, there are seats for sale in all three cabins (8 in Y) so that is quite positive compared to the belief that OT upgrades primarily take place due to Y being completely filled.
I had a successful bid (both ways) in September which was also my first eno....er with OT and another bid has been placed for flights in May.
I'll get back later with more details on the previous trip (which involved a re-route after the upgrade was confirmed) and of course what happens in May.

Sorry, I was referring to Mr. Fidler's post
Back in September, when I got my upgrade, I did not pay attention to remaining availability close to departure - I was simply happy to get the two upgrades. This time (awaiting the outcome of my next bid), I have had a little more time to look around and notice the interesting speculations in this forum.
Being a first time customer could have had a positive effect on my previous bid - but with Fidler's successful bid, with multiple seats still available, sounds promising.

I am not a patient person. tick tick tick...nothing yet...
On a hopefully positive note, I see that business class seats on my flight are over $7000 one way so maybe there will be a couple left open

Awaiting too as this my first OT bid and first long haul flight with SAS to NRT. Over a week to go. In last week all booking classes except C were zeroed out and suddendly there were over 9 seats in GO saver. And today, only 2 - 5 seats in PLUS and C. Will review here in next week. Will evaluate SK for my future flights too at the same time.

Sadly, no go on this trip
Email just came. No upgrade to either Go Plus or Business.
For the record:
Flight booked August 2013
Optiontown Upgrade paid Dec 2013 for both classes.
Heard at T-48 hours.
We have been upgrade on all 4 of our previous attempts to Business.
Expert flying still showing many open seats in Business and Go Plus and only 2 seats open in Go.
Good news, we get back almost $1000. Bad news, I really really wanted the upgrade as we both have bad backs and sleep would have been oh so much better. Oh well...maybe on the way home.

While in C yesterday CPH-ORD, via the OT upgrade, my seat broke half-way through the flight. It was stuck in the reclined position and no attempts to reset it were successful. Eventually two FA's had to force it back into the seated position and I sat that way for the rest of the flight (flight was quite full, so no other seats). It wasn't such a hassle for me as I had to work anyway, but the seats are definitely showing a lot of wear. Looking forward to the new C cabin, whenever that may finally be.

I think Expert Flyer shows only reserved seats, not the whole booking situation for a flight.
FlightStats shows more accurate booking class availability when you click flight availability, then advanced option and type SAS there.
