Received SUOs for my HKG-DOH-MUC today (14 days prior to departure) from W-class Y to J at HKD 4059 each leg. It's pricier than the record on FT, and I am still debating it. Once I received the email, it would be the final offer, right?
I did check my itinerary online and, like some suggested in the thread, change my booking to rebook myself in J will be somewhat cheaper and getting better fare class (for miles accumulation). But it will be upgrading both legs though.
I basically care more about HKG-DOH since it's a longer flight and on the notorious 789 Y seat-pitch. But one thing to my notice is that my itinerary on Qatar Airways website still shows my DOH-MUC is on 359, while expertflyer showed a 2-2-2 J layout (doesn't that imply a 333 or 332?) Which one should I believe?

The DOH-MUC leg is operated with a LATAM 359 (known as QATAM) with QR service and crew, but LATAM hard product. This is the correct seat map for this aircraft.

So I ended up taking the offer and upgrade myself on HKG-DOH, only to realize they've blocked all seats and not allowing me to pre-select my seat. Currently based in TPE and there is no (East) Asian office open on weekends, so I called the U.S. call center, waited for at least 30 mins, and told there's nothing they can do, either.
I do see seats still labeled "empty" on expertflyer app though. Does anyone know why QR block it on their website? Or is it just me because I was taking the offer instead of buying J upfront?

tya there are several reasons why a seatmap is completely blocked, or does not even appear.
1) there is a change of aircraft when all seats are reallocated by QR
QR have a quirk that they only show seats that have been selected by a passenger leaving other seats as selectable (unoccupied). Expertflyer does not seem able to pick up those passengers who have not selected a seat.and thus will show available seats when the cabin has no selectable seats. Add to this the fact that QR block the front row of every cabin because this is where the bassinet seats are located. These seats are usually only available at airport check-in.

When OnLine Check-In (OLCI) opens you will usually find that only selected seats are shown as occupied and you can select from the unoccupied seats.
1) there is a change of aircraft when all seats are reallocated by QR
QR have a quirk that they only show seats that have been selected by a passenger leaving other seats as selectable (unoccupied). Expertflyer does not seem able to pick up those passengers who have not selected a seat.and thus will show available seats when the cabin has no selectable seats. Add to this the fact that QR block the front row of every cabin because this is where the bassinet seats are located. These seats are usually only available at airport check-in.

Have an upcoming flight bokked in unrestricted Y economy booking class " Y " . Any experience ? Are upgradings from higher BK's cheaper ?
By the way DE-DOH are only 9 seats taken 21 free
DOH-HKT all 22 seats still free ( departure next week ).

Didn't get anything. No email no OLCI offer, nothing. Even booked in highest economy bookingclass and business wide open. Is it possible to still get an offer, ( already OLCI and printed BP'S )

Also sure I not plan to ask for an upgrade @ the airport. But I would like to know the criteria, how them pick people for email upgrades.

bertheike from the information available to me QRs thinking is that the higher Economy ticketing classes are so much more expensive than the lower ticketing classes that an airport upgrade for cash is an economic proposition and cheaper than an E-mail upgrade offer. The upgrade price very much depends upon the true loading of the J cabin as well as the price paid for the original ticket.
If loading is very low then airport cash upgrades are cheaper then if the cabin is almost full.
Please remember that the seat maps that you can see only show the selected seats not the actual purchased seats. If a passenger purchase a ticket for a flight it is only if he selects a seat that he appears on the seat map.
