My offer letter the same too about lounge access. That's the main reason I accepted the offer. A place to shower, sleep and eat on a long layover in lieu of a hotel.

There is a discussion going on on the No more Al Mourjan access for upgrades with Qmiles/QCredits but this should refer specifically to Airport upgrades only. The lounge access rules for upgrades made before the airport check-on opens are unchanged! (At the moment!). There have been no signs that the rules are to be changed, but it could happen.

This is actually supported by the QRPC reply in post 21 of that thread which you quote from in your post 27 of that thread.
With this knowledge available it is obvious that the gate dragon in post 33 of that thread has not been properly informed of changes and thus made an error. The result of mpkz's insistance upon scanning the BP proves this.
This discussion belongs on the other thread but unfortunately also needs to remain on this thread in order to reassure those with e-mail upgrades.

Sorry, my wording may have been a bit ambiguous. I was only commenting that the discussion in the other thread seems to encompass upgrades both at the airport and prior to arrival at the airport, not the changes to the actual rules, themselves.

For me it doesn't worth it at all. Let's do the math :
You probably already payed about 500 EUR for your return ticket CDG-KUL in W.
If you add to it 4 upgrades at 486 EUR, you'd end with a 2444 EUR return ticket in J. Far more that what you can usually find with QR promotions (and much far more than you can pay if you don't mind flying TUN-KUL in J instead of CDG-KUL in J)
In the end, if you really want the upgrade (if it's your first time in J on QR or really need a flat bed to rest) you'd better go for the QR39 (A380 with a good seat and the onboard lounge) to maximize your J experience rather than on QR853 (A330 with not a large seat) and pay for it at Doha airport upgrade counter only $500 (but without Al Mourjan lounge access).

Advance upgrade vs upgrade at airport?
Does anybody have an informed view, please, about how the prices offered for advance online upgrades compare with those offered for immediate cash upgrades at the airport?
One might guess (but it is only a guess) that availability of airport upgrades might be worse (QR may have sold out), but that if there are any left, QR might price them more keenly while they still have a chance to fill an empty seat.
Whether it really works like that may be another matter, though.

Only you can answer the question for you.
For me it doesn't worth it at all. Let's do the math :

In the end, if you really want the upgrade (if it's your first time in J on QR or really need a flat bed to rest) you'd better go for the QR39 (A380 with a good seat and the onboard lounge) to maximize your J experience rather than on QR853 (A330 with not a large seat) and pay for it at Doha airport upgrade counter only $500 (but without Al Mourjan lounge access).
For me it doesn't worth it at all. Let's do the math :
You probably already payed about 500 EUR for your return ticket CDG-KUL in W.
If you add to it 4 upgrades at 486 EUR, you'd end with a 2444 EUR return ticket in J. Far more that what you can usually find with QR promotions (and much far more than you can pay if you don't mind flying TUN-KUL in J instead of CDG-KUL in J)

I have a seat in Y (booking class N) on QR835 next weekend from HAN to BKK and received no offer to upgrade. There are at least 4 seats available for sale in J (Business promo). Perhaps it's considered just too much hassle to offer an upgrade on the short sector?
