Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I just checked and my HP's travel charger is 90w and I believe I had that plugged in while working, but can't be certain. Anything over 120w 120v is going to require 10A 120v which I think would be hard pressed to find. I wonder if a search on the power limits of the airline outlet design would give us the specs we need to deduce the max power output?

On the A359 and A35X, is the proximity of the bathroom door to seat 1A/1K bothersome?

JFK-DOH morning flight on A359

I'm flying JFK-DOH in Dec on the morning 10:30am departure on the A350-900. I've been reading that not all A359's have Q suites and there is a chance of equipment swap.
How likely do you think that is, especially on a route like JFK?

QR hasn't yet adjusted the final aircraft types planned for the Winter season, however, a JFK flight is likely to be on a QSuites equipped aircraft unless something very last minute occurs.

Never for me, I rather prefer the front rows, you always get your preferred meal choices.

Had Qsuites from MLE-DOH-JFK, the DOH-JFK leg was switched to the old 2-2-2 J product with notification at the gate. Not ideal and of course Qsuite is preferable esp. since we were a group of 3 who had the quad booked. Unfortunately this is a possibility with Qatar so best to be mentally prepared.

Anyone know or have inside info as to why Qatar is known for so many last minute aircraft changes? I know it can happen with any airline but it seems Q has a bad reputation in regards to that, especially more noticeable when it’s a Qsuite to a non qsuite…what makes them keep having this last minute change problem so often?

I dont think other airlines are immune from this; QR just has 3 diff longhaul J products and the qsuite being so desirable for many, I think the people hunting them are just more vocal. You would barely notice 20 aircraft swaps on EK unless it was 380 to 777 or New F to Old F. I'm guessing there's perfectly normal operational reasons this happens just like with any airline but we just notice it more on QR

Perhaps a local VIP along with entourage might be travelling and they have a preference for a certain type of seat configuration for security purposes? For example, they would strangely prefer an open 2-2-2 configuration on a 777 so the security detail can more easily keep an eye on everyone? or the VIP might have a dislike for rear facing window seats and insist on an aircraft where all the window seats face forward?

It wonder if it could be related to the grounding of some A350 aircraft?

an update to previous posts about Qsuite seat assignments (middle EF pair) on QR flight but booked as AA code share. Flight to come October 15
Previously we found that neither AA nor QR could assign us a middle pair QSuite. Issue was the codeshare that meant even QR couldn't assign the seats. Up until this week, QRs best advice was to go to the QR checkin desk in ORD early and have them assign the seats day of travel. (we have a connection day of travel in ORD for our ORD>DOH flight
Fast forward to last week.
I thought I'd take a chance and try QR Twitter support. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - figured it wouldn't hurt anything to ask.
Asked, provided requested additional info about the reservation and waited. Eventually, the twitter team said sorry, they couldn't do anything BUT contact them within 72 hours of the flight and then they could do the seat assignment. (not sure if it mattered but I am Oneworld Emerald/AA EXP. I never told them that but it is on my reservation.)

So, at just under 72 hours preflight, I sent the twitter team another note.
Two hours later (no actual response from the twitter team) BUT we are now assigned two EF pair middle seats!! YEAH!!
So no rush day of travel and one less thing to worry about for Friday.

I am flying QR 710 from IAD -DOH tomorrow and it's showing A350-900 but with Q Suites, do they still have non q suites flying that route? I just checked last couple flights and they just say "A359" so cant tell if its been the QSuite-equipped or not..
