It's like the time someone wrote "BOB" on a barf bag, and someone else idiotically decided that stood for "Bomb On Board." The obvious point that the nervous Nellies always neglect is that a would-be terrorist is very unlikely to advertise his or her presence in such a fashion. In fact, the only people who would be dumb enough to do so would be mentally disturbed individuals, and I don't see them as being able to effectively construct and smuggle onboard weapons / bombs, either.

Didn't they have a diversion of a UA p.s. flight last year when a Japanese gentleman wrote something in his notebook about "bomb" and had an iPod and some lip balm in his bag? :rolleyes:

This is great publicity - the cost associated with this fiasco should be part of the investigation/reforms governing campaign funding.

That is the first thought that came to my mind and that she was trying to prove how silly and ineffective the procedures (not the intent) are.

Just look at the posts in this thread between "will smuggle water" and "must follow the rules". Such a conversation on board could easily lead to an "altercation". People who argue about policies are frequently classified as distraught.

Someone will have to explain how she got those items on board or how the media got it so wrong.

Sorry, no I wasn't there and I haven't conducted personal interviews of all of the pax on the plane. It was what the airport spokesman said, which was official. If the TSA is backing off that story then that's fine but the original Reuters story listed those items.

The reporter who initially crafted the 'list' of banned items this passenger had from their own imagination needs to be tossed under a bus...that's a good start for the day. We can work on the TSA after that.

I believe the UA crew made the decision to land the plane in BOS. So I guess they are idiots eh? Do you know what the situation was like on the plane FWAAA? Were you there? No. So don't assume that it was an overreaction. Maybe it wasn't "terrorism" but it could have been another type of serious situation.
