Supposedly a picture of her: http://images.google.com/images?svnu...yo%22+Pakistan

Well, I might have tot ake my words back. She met a man from Pakistan on line, prior to Sept 11. It might be a personal mission.

I met Junaid, a Pakistani man, on line before September 11. He is talking about marriage, so I need to get to know him better before I bring him into the US on a fiancé visa. He was refused a visitor visa to the US, so I have come here.

There are dozens upon dozens of persons in the US named Catherine Mayo.

Not ones who wrote the articles associated with this picture. This is the picture used with her byline in the Pakistan Times and other places. It might be 30 years old, but that's the picture they used.

Exactly my point ;)

That picture is not 30 years old.

Has it been established that the woman on the plane and the reporter Cathy Mayo are the same person? I'm asking this as a real question, not a smart-aleck comment.

That has been reported by the Boston Herald at least. Maybe they got it from FT -- my search results were posted here an hour before their article.

But really. What are the odds of two paranoid "journalists" named Catherine Mayo living in Pakistan at the same time? The writings of the journalist are so consistant with what we're told happened on the plane, it would be hard for me to conclude that there could be two of them.

In any event, it would not surprise me at all if the picture is either old, or is not her. Why haven't we seen a "perp walk," anyway?

Press Release from the U.S. Attorney's office. Not a whole lot of new information: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...4418248&EDATE=

Very interesting. This sounds to me like someone with severe emotional problems, not someone who should be locked away for 20 years. It also sounds like the crew did a great job handling a difficult situation.

No offense but this thread was a waste of time. What really happened on the flight was much more interesting!

GUWonder Aug 17, 2006 6:03 pm

To me it read like the passenger is an eccentric who was toying with the crew; but it also read like the crew overreacted and could have had the matter dealt with at IAD just as well. There was clearly at least one paranoid member of the crew -- that is, it's common for at least someone to be a bit nosy about why the capitain or flight crew is dealing with some passenger and/or doing so repeatedly.

The AP now has a different picture of the same woman, who looks quite a bit older: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...081701685.html

Those pictures are well less than 4 years apart. So she's now less than 10% older from one photo to another.
