UA flight diverted

I just caught this on CNN but didn't see everything. There's a UA flight at Logan that was diverted because of a "disturbance" on the flight. They didn't have much information beyond that at this time.

Per WHDH Boston:

United Flight 923 from London to Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. was diverted to Logan Airport in Boston after three individuals got into an altercation with crew members. Suspicious items were possibly in their carry-on luggage. The plane has landed, and all 182 passengers appear to be safe.

MSNBC was showing pictures of pax deplaning and said that it was the result of "fighting" on board. Perhaps someone wanted to borrow a bit of lip balm from a pax who'd had theirs confiscated.

Best, Dave

They probably had some :gasp: water on them.

Now they're saying all passengers are being taken off the plane and they're checking their carry-ons. The UA web site says "schedule change due to customer service."

One female passenger is being questioned by FBI and TSA. Lipstick?

GUWonder Aug 16, 2006 8:41 am

Confrontation amongst three passengers two of which went after one female passenger. The one female passenger who was confronted/being confrontational is dealing with the FBI and some other entity.

Did she have a bottle of water? :D

Morons and idiots. It never seems to end. :td:

exerda Aug 16, 2006 8:44 am

I wonder if it was something like this:

Female pax gets something completely harmless out of her carryon, like some eye drops. Some self-righteous security-at-any-cost nervous Nellie sees her and confronts the woman about it.

You can take it from there.

GeoGirl Aug 16, 2006 8:45 am

Wait, there's new info: no threat to the aircraft, no terrorism. A woman became anxious and distraught and got into a confrontation with other passengers and the pilot decided it was best to land the plane.

Huh. Guess she was forced to dump her Sisley cosmetics.

And with that, I'm outta here for a few hours.

No security threat, no danger to the plane, no terrorism connection, yet diverted. Ridiculous.

Maybe it's the nervous nelly who is being questioned, but who knows.

In any event they'll now have to do customs and immigration at Boston.

"Flight attendant -- you've got to land this plane immediately!!! The passenger in 29E has some extremely dangerous contraband -- dihydrogen monoxide!"

FWAAA Aug 16, 2006 8:49 am

Perhaps the TSA should ban discussions of their moronic security changes of 10 Aug onboard airplanes just in case the participants can't debate things like civilized people.

^^ :D

Fighter jets escorted it. What a waste of government resources. What were the figher jets going to do? Fire a magic missile through the window and kill a non-hijacker? What were the FAMs doing? ;)
