I called the number in Tute 84's post above and gave them that same extension listed. The rep said she hadn't had a starwood customer in so long and didn't know what the promotion entailed.

I called AT&T and asked about the Starwood promotion extension. The Rep. "Penny" told me that I will get 2500 starpoints after the first, third and sixth bill and one point per dollar spent. The deal is $5.95 per month and 7 cents per minute. If you use them for your local toll calls you get $2.00 per month off the monthly fee so it becomes $3.95/month. She said she did not need my starwood number to credit my points, I don't know how they do that. I signed up and will report later how it worked out.

They don't need your Starpoints number because they don't ever intend to credit your Starpoints account. Hopefully you'll just forget or decide its not worth the effort, otherwise they'll get your number off one of the 15 emails and letters you send them demanding they credit your points. Eleven months and I still haven't gotten my HHonors points they owe me.

i just signed up for the 7500 starwood points...no monthly fee, 16 cents per minute. I recorded the conversation with the rep for future reference. I'll let y'all know how it goes. They didnt ask me for my starwood number either...this should be interesting....not sure whether it's worth the ulcer that it's going to cause, but SPG points are my FAVORITE out there...i'd do almost anything for them...and being platinum, hopefully SPG will be of some help should I run into a problem.

I agree with IM4Travel. I was with AT&T for the past 7 years (BTW - I only paid 5 cents per minute 24 hours a day - 16 cents is ridiculous - call and change this). Anyway, although I called, wrote, faxed, etc. AT&T I never once received any Starwood points. Nor (when they were advertising them) did I ever receive any Marriott Rewards points. Finally, last week I switched to MCI (again, 5 cents a minute). It's not worth it to me to spend time trying to track down what they say they're going to give you and then they don't.
The funny thing is that 3 days after I switched, AT&T called me offering me a "great deal" on my long distance. . .seems like they're more willing to be nice to customers once they lose them!

No Offense, but you guys haven't been around here long enough. I'd never PAY 16 cents a minute. I'll pay 5.9 cents per minute using my costco calling card, or 6 cents per minute with a dial-around. this way I avoid the monthly fee to get the lower rates. I think that YOU guys are getting taken for a ride if you're paying a monthly fee. and yes, I AM hard up for STARWOOD points. Not only that, but some of "we guys" have scored TENS and sometimes HUNDREDS of thousands of points through these phone companies. I know for myself and my wife, with Sprint and MCI, with 3 phone lines, we've totaled 230,000 frequent flier miles in the past couple of years. So criticize if you like, but a certain amount of frustration is worth it for that kind of return.

I agree with aflyer. For a few hours work, I have netted over 250,000 miles from MCI and Sprint over the past 2 years. Well worth it for me. With a simple spread sheet in Excel I track all the posings, and track what is still due me. I never wait on hold, I only use email, so the time and energy expended is minimal.
