If we are going to take action purely based on the TOS then it states the following:
When nobody replies to the majority of these threads AND the replies are mostly very much off topic I think it's pretty clear that these ARE indeed TOS violations.
When a topic is about Playboy in New York then posting a reply about Gay Condom use in New York is obviously NOT related to the topic and can therefore be deemed OFF TOPIC, another TOS violation.
Staying ON topic does not mean that the reply has to contain just ONE related word, in those situations posting anything with the word AIRPLANE would make anything on the board on topic in any forum.
Fact of the matter is that it's not a "clique" that is getting annoyed, it's the majority of Omni posters as was evident in yesterdays locked thread, it's not only "the usual suspects", it's everyday members, moderators and even Omni "lurkers".

Should we limit our number of posts due to broadband problems?
Broadband problems are related to the technology structure of the search feature, which is constantly being reviewed. In the first three years of FlyerTalk, it has been relocated to three different ISPs and four different server configurations, which means that we are constantly reviewing capacity and broadband for the best performance. That will continue. The bottom line is that we don't want to limit your exchanges with other members or the value of the information, so please continue to post as often as you wish. The only thing we ask is that it be relevant to the forum you are posting in and that you at all times respect other members and contribute information of value to the other members.

I agree with Scott and the others, and I'm not even in their clique.
I don't want to see a ban on bumping old threads: that is perfectly legitimate in many cases, and frequently leads to further multilateral discussion.
I don't want to see a ban on doc: when he participates in real multilateral discussions, his input is as valuable as anyone else's.
I don't want to see a ban on posting the occasional news crosspost to OMNI. Many of them stimulate interesting discussions.
In an ideal world, I'd expect people to use common courtesy, which would mean not attacking a board with many news crossposts or thread bumps in succession, effectively killing other members' topics in the forum.
However, failing that, I support a ToS update. It doesn't have to be an objective measure (e.g., post count). How about giving the moderator the obligation and authority to use his/her judgment to maintain order in a forum via temporary time-outs? I've sometimes wondered if a bot isn't being used in some of the recent OMNI attacks: perhaps a temporary freeze on a User ID would solve a lot of problems.

Staying on topic in OMNI???
When was THAT bold new Forum policy announced?
Heck, I do not understand most of the titles, much less have a clue how anyone could stay on topic:
What are my bees doing?
the "bump this thread for ______ reason" thread
help me with kids and money: how should I not spoil my kids?
Straight Eye for the Queer Guy
Penis Park
Stupid Robber Tricks
If you live in NYC, look out your window, eastward
I managed to skip over those as well as all the others on page one.
OMNI is OMNI I guess?

Guess what guys, all of you that criticized us by using the words above were disregarding a request to be considerate of feelings as is mentioned in the TOS.
Let's see if we can get people to actually follow the TOS before we go after those who, while they may post annoying things, are not themselves breaking any TOS rules.
Again, thanks JAWS_II.

OMNI
A discussion of all things NOT related to miles, points, travel, dining or airports. OMNI is a vibrant dialog of perspectives on world events, politics, religion and more.

Allow me to offer two points.
First --
Don't focus on the TOS. It's not a legal document or constitution. It's not the bible. No exegesis required.
Instead, it lays out a general articulation of developing and maintaining a positive community.
Arguing about TOS violations in most cases is beside the point.
Second --
Randy has said that he'd rather not expend his energy on OMNI issues. If it's not miles and points, it's really not a priority for FT and not where his energies should lie. Take it or leave it, but don't fight over it and don't drag him into it.
So --
Let's stop playing gotcha.
Let's talk miles and points.
Let's take a deep breath.
Not a popular view, but my own personal contribution.

If we are going to single out doc for the rehashing of old threads, we should also single out fewmiles. He does it on a very regular basis as well. Just as annoying I might add.

Well, MapleLeaf, I am glad that you at least say that when I pull up old threads that it is annoying and no more and no less so than when ___ does it. It's frankly tiring to see when people tell me I am being annoying yet when it comes to ___, then "it's just the way it is", "live with it", etc.

I actually enjoy reading many of doc's posts. (although reading all of them would be a full-time job!)
But I definitely think Doc has many things to contribute to FT, not only on matters of miles & points but also in OMNI.
On the other hand: Being a Yankees fan (as Doc seems to be) is, of course, anti-social behavior

I enjoy Doc's posts. I think they are a big contribution. I can understand how others think they are annoying also.
