I agree with Scott and the others, and I'm not even in their clique.

I don't want to see a ban on bumping old threads: that is perfectly legitimate in many cases, and frequently leads to further multilateral discussion.

I don't want to see a ban on doc: when he participates in real multilateral discussions, his input is as valuable as anyone else's.

I don't want to see a ban on posting the occasional news crosspost to OMNI. Many of them stimulate interesting discussions.

In an ideal world, I'd expect people to use common courtesy, which would mean not attacking a board with many news crossposts or thread bumps in succession, effectively killing other members' topics in the forum.

However, failing that, I support a ToS update. It doesn't have to be an objective measure (e.g., post count). How about giving the moderator the obligation and authority to use his/her judgment to maintain order in a forum via temporary time-outs? I've sometimes wondered if a bot isn't being used in some of the recent OMNI attacks: perhaps a temporary freeze on a User ID would solve a lot of problems.

I don't think I've ever agreed with anyone more completely on a complex issue. Normally, on something complex, two people may totally agree on the big stuff and differ on little nuances, but there is not one statement of pinniped's that does not exactly reflect my view.

Thanks for expressing it so eloquently!

EDITed to clean up UBB problem.

You know, I've vowed to myself and to Randy that I will never get into another flame war with the poster in question, and I will keep that promise.

But has it ever dawned on any of you that there is a contest going on and people may have an interest in upping the post tally (by both trolling with lame tags to old threads and creating the responses that follow)?

Like "common sense", it's a rarity these days.

It annoys me too when doc goes into a posting frenzy. But that applies to a couple of other posters too.

I just filter, and skip.

NJDavid, I must politely disagree with you and say that the existence of the current contest does not seem to be correlated with an increase in ___-branded sewage backup. The latter has been going on periodically for years. It's as if there's always been a contest going on.

I just want to know if anyone else sees the irony in a guy named doc leaving outdated magazine and news articles lying around?

I politely disagree with you Few...I agree it's been going on, but when someone sees a way to possibly gain from a talent or challenge, capitalizing on same is foreseeable. Like
a cheap way to gain miles...Pudding Guy
loopholes in miles bonuses...See US Forum GOM
Garage sale on a rainy day...Ebay
No that there's a huge gain, but upon bringing this up before, the "name that shan't be mentioned" gave it a wink. Can't say that given the temptation, and ungodly amount of time required, it's easily imaginable. Those of us that extrapolated averages are 2 months away. Regardless, I believe it is imaginable. Looking at Randy's thoughts on this topic previously, he's just getting a good laugh if there was manipulation. Plus, it drives revenue for this beast. That's why I would just love to pigeonhole the topics to an appropriate forum.

Ah, now I understand. The Conspiracy theory. You must be watching the 'pundits' on television.
============================================

As for Doc's thread re-hashing, so what. Who cares. Doc re-hashes threads with more useful info than some of the typical Omni threads with 'laughable' info.

Well it's about time that a member steps up and clearly identifies what is really wrong with OMNI - Randy Petersen. If he wasn't such a bad businessman (imagine giving away access to all this information and community for nothing. All those dot.commies that gave away something for nothing all went broke and vanished. he's no better than they were though how he keeps giving it away for free baffles me). And follow through? What follow through. You'd think this guy had a life or something.

OK, Skip, I never had a D+ in all my high school days and not looking to mess my personal best over this issue. So for Skip's case, I'm going to do something. OMNI will be closed to posting for the next week while I take time to consult with the TalkBoard on what we might consider doing to make OMNI a more pleasant experience for members of FlyerTalk.

Now Skip, please don't complain, you wanted me to do something, you got it. Anything else I can do for you?

Randy, can you hold off on that decision for a little while?

The OMNI moderators are working an a "peace process" solution that should make the problem go away. We need a day or two at the most.

It looks like it already happened. Frankly, it comes at no surprise as the mockery of others has been growing. I'm hopeful that a new and improved Omni will again be the friendly place it used to be.

Time for personal rant.

Thanks everyone.

For goodness sake, people can disagree about major issues, and still not lead it to this.

This is absurd. Closing Omni is not an answer to anything.

I don't know who to blame... the poster(s)with nothing better to do who dredge(s) up old crap for god-knows what reason, or the people with nothing better to do than to complain about said poster(s).

It's a freaking message board. LET IT GO!

Now where will I start my thread about quotes from Monty Python movies, questions about cheese, or other randomness.

This pains me, because I know and like people on both sides of this little issue.

But to everyone involved here that lead to this. YOU SUCK!

Think about what you've done, and how it has affected us all. How will I distract myself from the real issues I deal with 85% of the time? TV?

This sucks!
