I have argued this time and again. Let's not beat around the bush. doc's posts are not against the TOS. The posting rate, compared to everyone else's, is what makes them rude.

There cannot be rules against being rude, but I do hope the moderators come up with some solution that keeps everyone happy.

Some of us may be talking apples when others are talking oranges. That is, the "solution" may solve a problem which you didn't know existed, or which you didn't agree was a problem.

That's to say, if Randy decides to leave OMNI closed, would you be okay with that "solution"? I guess I would - I mean, it's his board, and there are other, more lively boards I frequent, but I would indeed be disappointed because I've posted here more than other IBB's and for a longer period of time and I've invested more of my energy/time to discussing topics here, but oh well.

Maybe that's the right thing to do? I'm not sure.

doc can do whatever he wants within the rules of the TOS, and I believe he has been. I can, too. Anyone can. You don't have to like it. The only way in which I can see a problem is you could argue that many of his posts belong more properly in the "In the News" forum, not OMNI. But I wouldn't personally argue anything, because it's never bothered me.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what kind of effective solution they come up with!

OK, Skip, I never had a D+ in all my high school days and not looking to mess my personal best over this issue. So for Skip's case, I'm going to do something. OMNI will be closed to posting for the next week while I take time to consult with the TalkBoard on what we might consider doing to make OMNI a more pleasant experience for members of FlyerTalk.

Were you Robert McNamara in a former life or something? All I can say is, bravo... great job and hopefully you take away some self satisfaction in what has been taken away from those of us in the community that thought Omni a wonderful place. Hopefully your social skills rise above the level of that which you've displayed here. Either that or I sincerely hope you're in a field that doesn't require much customer interaction.

And with that I'm taking a week-long timeout for violation of the TOS. Sorry Randy, this time I couldn't resist.

Couldn't you have displined the members themselves instead of everyone?

Nope I figured out a while ago it is much easier to ignore threads that were of no interest to me.

I hope Randy does come back with OMNI in the future, but will respect whatever he does with it. Personally I am going to use the time to take a 1 week FT break myself.

G'night all. See you in 7 days.

Randy,

My 2 cents is just shut the thing (OMNI) down, as for me, I do read it all the time, post on it a bit as well; however I really think that most people are on here just to see them selves in print, to up their post count and see their names in lights so to say.

I do get a good laugh out of it; yet I won't miss it one iota if you close this down. If you don't of course I'll go back.

There are so many other bulletin boards to make OMNI type posts on, FT would be great without OMNI since we are here (or most of us anyway) to get more miles, upgrades and points.

So to summarize, you might lose a lot of whining, crying and fighting by shutting down OMNI.. either way I'm sure you will make the best decision for FT

I've not been on the board long but Omni is one of my favorite places as it gives a knowledge of the other posters that the other fora can't due to their structure. Your opinion is amazingly worth less than we've paid for it (nothing). I'd be quite happy to give you 2 cents or even 20 to piss off.

And Skip Diddleton... you sir are a simpering twat.

The two main rules of any business:

1. The boss is always right.
2. When in doubt, see Rule #1.

Randy, sorry it had to come to this.

My personal kudos to the OMNI Moderators for trying so hard to make this go away without the need for divine intervention.
See you guys in a few weeks. Looks like it's time to hit the road without my laptop for a while...

I am very old, very conservative and usually quite proper--but I love to dance, anywhere, anytime. I read about .01% of all OMNI posts, but I really enjoy those that I choose to read.

For me, the trick to OMNI is to just ignore anything that looks ignoreable (is that a word??) and read what looks like it might be fun.

The only thing that I'm dissapointed about is that i thought i deserved at least a C- for the follow-through. There's a bunch of other members on FT who didn't try at all and they still get good grades from you..... HA!

So, how was your day?</font>
Touch!

I think the one-week breathing space to allow some brain storming to impose a little self-discipline on ourselves is just what the doctor ordered.

No mere B+ from "Professor Lifer." When you next visit SPN (perhaps on a honeymoon), I'd be happy to show you around Northern Marianas College.

I didn't suffer any long-term effects from giving OMNI up for 40 days during Lent. A week will not kill anyone.

Turning to the merits of the issue, I will restate a possible solution I have proposed in similar circumstances (but not in this forum):

How about a reasonable daily posting limit? 50, 100, 200? There has to
be some number that would be considered "extreme" or beyond good manners or reasonable contribution levels.

The number could be technically monitored, like "flood control," or by moderators.

We don't want to crimp the prodigious helpers like PremEx, however.

Perhaps the "limit" could be for OMNI only; the other threads are subject to more natural "off-topic" TOS limits.

Or the limit of 50 or 100 could apply solely to the number of OMNI threads posted to daily.

Your first iteration doesn't have to be carved in stone. Change it as needed.

Good luck in continuing to inspire your volunteers to give such splendid follow-through.

That's the kind of leadership we learned at the Naval Academy. (Yes, the entire class did get restricted when the women's obstacles at the O-course were painted pink. We didn't have the same degree of problems as USAFA integrating women, some well-publicized consensual scandals involving videotape notwithstanding -- the Superintendent's daughter was a member of the second class with women (now a space shuttle astronaut), and the entire Brigade of Midshipmen had no doubt about the leadership's commitment to do what needed to be done.

Oh my, I fear what the reopening will look like, when the flood gates are opened again and that MASS of disheaveled humanity suffering withdrawels, and sleepless nitghts jam the Post New Topics entry!

That would be a good time to take a vacation, so the the computer doesn't crash.

Randy, will you please delete this account. For the same reason you killed AvekOO (instead of our beloved Avek00?).

OMNI closes -&gt; productivity increases -&gt; stock markets rise -&gt; world peace at last and England win world cup forever onwards.. anyone want to take bets ?

BTW, Mary Whitehouse died in vain trying to control content on the TV in Britain. I am interested to see what you have in mind to address this here. I fear that permanent closure may be your only option.
