Randy
I am very unhappy about this although I will have a lot more free time now
Skip's comments were incredibly rude and out of turn.
The whining about Doc and a few others is a bit much. OMNI can't turn into a hassle and that's what has become. I can understand your closing OMNI for now, however I ask that you open it up again. Let the moderators work things out.

Wait a minute, Isn't the Amazing Race final this week. If that hasn't been Omni worthy for the past few weeks, what is? How about we wait until Labor Day

And when the dust bowl make folks think it was the end of the world, Woody Guthrie wrote these words....

Skip,
That was totally uncalled for... and I would guess a major violation of the FT TOS. But Randy probably has too much class to hold you accountable for it.
I would argue that it is this community that "let something decent" go downhill. Good communities manage themselves... and on this we failed. From fellow members, to moderators, to the posting offenders themselves.
So sad to see Randy to have to take drastic actions based on the behaviors of a few out-of-line posters.

You know, when OMNI originally got moved into travel, you might recall that Randy made it perfectly clear about what would happen when/if things got out of hand again.
Many, many folks seem to have forgotten that. I predicted this when I stepped down as an OMNI moderator, and I'm really suprised it took this long.
While I certainly disagree with Skip's delivery, I think the crux of his message is right on.

All those dot.commies that gave away something for nothing all went broke and vanished. he's no better than they were though how he keeps giving it away for free baffles me). And follow through? What follow through. You'd think this guy had a life or something.
OK, Skip, I never had a D+ in all my high school days and not looking to mess my personal best over this issue. So for Skip's case, I'm going to do something. OMNI will be closed to posting for the next week while I take time to consult with the TalkBoard on what we might consider doing to make OMNI a more pleasant experience for members of FlyerTalk.
Now Skip, please don't complain, you wanted me to do something, you got it. Anything else I can do for you?</font>

Sometimes the pendulum has to start on a perceived negative swing just to get the clock running again. And for those who hate me for the next 2 weeks, I humbly apologize. But, I would not have changed my words, at the time.

Well, consider this heat from me. I view myself as a guest on Randy's board. Your words are incredibly rude. I wouldn't use words like you used if I were a guest anywhere, anytime. It is disgusting behavior, Skip, even if your point was right, there is no call for posting what you did in the way you did.

Skip, your foul language and absolute rudeness know no bounds, I guess. If you are such a wizard of business, why have you failed Business Etiquette 101? Take your personal problems outside of FT and deal with the cause of your ire elsewhere.
Between Continental, JetBlue, GLBT, Women's Forum, In the News, and Delta, I'll find a home elsewhere while I sit on conference calls. I come to FT for the enjoyment of it.
For those who don't enjoy FT, practice the business sense you seem to preach and go elsewhere.

The Yankees will still be on top next week despite Jeff Weaver and a pathetic bull pen.

I'll be a lot of posters weren't even around for the last Omni war....
Now, where am I going to go for the next week when I need a minute of amusement during the madness that is my day?
Randy, I understand why you did this.
Skip, SHAME ON YOU for insulting our gracious host of 5 years.
Maybe this will serve to calm everyone down & make Omni the fun place it used to be.

The closing down of Omni is a loss. I would like to see it return if our host and all message board participants would be so kind to tone down (i.e., eliminate) the personal insults/attacks.
I came to Omni today to look up news on the sad death of Sergio V. de Mello in Baghdad. He was one of the few persons who I have heard so eloquently stand for the best of the UN ... so much so that he gave up his position as UN High Commissioner for Refugees and to make a better piece of peace between the Iraqis, us and the UN. Now, due to the tasteless behavior of some of our fellow FTers, I am stripped of a forum that I found to be greatly informative and communicative even as we agreed and disagreed or learned to agree to disagree without resorting to personal attacks or just let go.

Skip, don't apologize as you asked the same as others - do something. I don't even feel offended so your posting privileges are not in any danger. I and the TalkBoard will work toward a solution that you and others can post with - whatever that may be.
The only thing that I'm dissapointed about is that i thought i deserved at least a C- for the follow-through. There's a bunch of other members on FT who didn't try at all and they still get good grades from you..... HA!
So, how was your day?

Honestly, I can't believe that things have to come to this. Are we all children?
Is it really that difficult to refrain from personal attacks and ignore posts or members that you have issues with?
I've been ignoring certain members for quite some time, and it works fine.
OMNI was a great resource and a lot of fun. A couple people can't manage to control themselves. Now we're back in the days of grade school where if one person messes up, we all lose our recess.

I, too, am sad to see OMNI missing.
I do hope it IS only for a week!
There's ALWAYS something interesting going on over there.
Guess I'll have to find a more productive use of my time for awhile.
