DONE3 upgrade on AA

DONE3 upgrade on AA

Hi

I have recently purchased a DONE3, with 5-6 legs on AA. On the LAX-LHR AA flight I would like to upgrade, but cannot as AA cant see the flight as being ticketed. I have received E-ticket numbers and confirmations from CX, but AA wont action my upgrade until they see it as ticketed. Unfortunately even providing an e-ticket number is not allowed.

Any ideas?

Which airline issued the DONE3 ticket ?

Now see issued by CX
Can you upgrade an AA flight with a CX issued e-ticket or must it be on AA stock to be able to get an upgrade on an AA flight?

It was issued by CX.
I have a list of all the PNR's from the airlines (BA, JC, CX, AA etc) which was provided on my reservation details. The problem is that AA have told me that this is not enough (even though I provided the AA one).

Maybe I should speak with them again, the first person may not know the rules or is confused.

Issued by CX as a CX flight number (operated by AA)? Or issued by CX with an AA flight number?

If the latter, the upgrade is valid and you just need to get AA to "find" the reservation. However, if you are on a CX codeshare (CX flight number on AA metal) I think you are out of luck for the upgrade.

Its definitely an AA flight number on AA metal. Its only booked on CX as the 1st flight is CX. There is no problem with the physical upgrade (availability etc), they just cant process it because it is not 'ticketed' on their system.

As I said. I think its just speaking with someone who doesnt know the rules or is confused, will try again tonight.

OK, for you to be able to upgrade your AA flights using eVIP's/Miles you need to have those segments ticked by AA. The (e-)ticket numbers must begin with 001- .

Now, while, apparently this is still possible to arrange, I have been advised it can be a real PITA. (I have not done this as I simply book through AA in the first place)

Once the flight is ticketed, contact AA and they will be able to process the eVIP upgrade with no problems at all and reissue the ticket. If it is ticketed and AA cannot see the number , contact CX and ask them to sort it out.


the fact that the 1st sector was on CX would have had no impact on being able to book through the AA ATW desk and would have made it a bit easier

With ATW tickets , it is not an issue ime getting the upgrade sorted. AA will just reissue the ticket with no hassle.

It seems not all AA Agents know how to do this ... c.f.

How does one convince AA to re-issue the ticket for those sectors? What AA agents are more likely to know how to do this given the OP has been rebuffed by AA agents more than once ...

Are you sure that it is ticketed by CX? Do you have the CX ticket number (it would have been emailed or faxed to you). CX has a long history of not issuing tickets until "close" to the departure date unless you insist (of course this also means your credit card is not charged until the ticket is issued, so CX staff think they are doing you a favour). From your description it sounds like your PNR is queued for ticketing but not actually issued yet (and may not be for many weeks).

If you have a CX ticket number, and problems persist, give AA that ticket number and ask them to pull it. Most agents can manage that. But if your ticket is in a normal state, that isn't necessary -- most likely it simply has not been issued yet.

My guess is that it's going cost the OP US$125 for a re-issue on AA stock. It's been my understanding for some time that one can't u/g AA legs (using miles or e-VIPs) on non-AA ticketed xONEx itineraries.

Yes you can and there is no fee for doing so. I have done it numerous times

The issue that you highlight is that the ticket information is not in the system. They cannot reissue a ticket if the ticket is not in the system. That is the problem there
