Its definitely an AA flight number on AA metal. Its only booked on CX as the 1st flight is CX. There is no problem with the physical upgrade (availability etc), they just cant process it because it is not 'ticketed' on their system.
As I said. I think its just speaking with someone who doesnt know the rules or is confused, will try again tonight.
Once the flight is ticketed, contact AA and they will be able to process the eVIP upgrade with no problems at all and reissue the ticket. If it is ticketed and AA cannot see the number , contact CX and ask them to sort it out.
the fact that the 1st sector was on CX would have had no impact on being able to book through the AA ATW desk and would have made it a bit easier
