If I route CPT-DOH-North America-ASIA-CPT/JNB it would be a DONE3? And if anyone has a current fare I’d appreciate it.

I'm trying to book an ex-TYO AONE4. I don't want any AA-coded flights because of the lousy earnings when credited to AAdvantage. I've been on hold with JAL for hours and there's no hint they will ever answer. I'm calling the JAL U.S. 800 number. Is there a way to actually reach JAL? Can their agents book RTWs? Any other ways to book? (I'd tried using AmEx Platinum Travel but can't get anywhere.)
|
Follow-up: I did reach JAL eventually. Agent took the info and sent it for pricing. Spoke to them today, Some airline split the record (there are two of us) and deleted some flights. Also, JL agent said most of the codeshares need to be rebooked as prime flights (at least JFK-LAX, LAX-YVR-LAX, SIN-KUL), which I really wanted to avoid because of the poorer earnings when credited to AA.

I'm on a DONE4. I specifically booked our DOH-HEL segment as the AY codeshare because that way is supposed to earn over double the Avios points in my BA account than would the (actual) QR flight. When I checked in, however, the BP showed the QR flight number. I went to the service desk at DOH and explained why I wanted the AY flight number on the BP but they claimed it was impossible to do it that way. And now, sure enough, the points have credited to my BA account at the lower QR level rather than the desired AY level. I made the booking with the AA RTW desk and have a 001- ticket. The itinerary / ticket receipt does show the AY fight number for that segment. The difference in points is 3415 v. 7513 or 4098 x 2 pax = 8196 points in the family account, which is nearly enough for a free shorthaul ticket. Granted, that's not so very very much in the overall scheme of life but (a) I do sometimes get caught up in 'the principle of the thing' and (b) I don't like to feel that I've been done out of something due to me. What do you think, lads? Do I gird up my loins and approach BA about this? Do I actually have a legitimate case to argue? |
The BP isn’t relevant — it’ll always show the prime flight code, sometimes with the booked code in small print.
How did you claim this segment? Retroclaimed? How did it appear on your exec club statement? |

If the BP shows QRxxxxx marketed/sold as AYxxxxx it should make a difference
If so, scan and send in Documentation always helps when wandering Fred |
If your BP shows the AY code on it somewhere, I'd point to that when asking BA to correct the earnings. If not, but the eticket shows the coupon as the AY code, I'd point to that. The eticket shows what was booked and paid for; the BP is a shorthand that should reflect it.

maybe contact BA Missing Avios by PM and explain the situation
I’ve had the opposite happen to me this week — CX coded flight operated by BA appeared as CX operated by CX on the statement, and therefore isn’t a qualifying flight for renewal. But I’m not going to chase that one, I expect I’ll have more BA flights soon :-) |
Planning a DONE3 ex-Japan. A couple of questions:
Does AA still have a dedicated RTW desk? If so, what is their phone number / email? Would AA allow me to book a JL-operated flight on AA code for the Japan-US segment? I remember reading somewhere on FT that flights should be on prime codes but I don't think this is a requirement in the oneworld explorer rules. Thanks. |

I have just had the pricing back on a DONE3 starting from Budapest, quoted in USD because the AA agent said that it had to be quoted in the intended credit card's issuing country's currency.
The quote was $5,453 for each of two adults, $4,090 for a child for the base, but the additional charges are more than I expected. All of the various country charges were expected, having read to expect 10-15%, but what is the large "CARRIER-IMPOSED FEES"? Multiply it by three passengers and it's a very large unexpected amount. Adult (per passenger) $5,453.00 USD CARRIER-IMPOSED FEES $1,151.30 USD PASSENGER FACILITY CHARGE (UNITED STATES) $18.00 USD SEGMENT TAX (UNITED STATES) $9.60 USD TRANSPORTATION TAX (UNITED STATES) $42.20 USD US APHIS USER FEE (UNITED STATES) $7.66 USD US CUSTOMS USER FEE (UNITED STATES) $13.04 USD US FEDERAL INSPECTION FEE (UNITED STATES) $14.00 USD US SECURITY FEE (UNITED STATES) $11.20 USD AIF - CANADA EXCEPT ON/NS/QC/NB/NF/PE (CANADA) $18.50 USD CANADA AIR SECURITY CHARGE (CANADA) $19.10 USD GST FOR CANADA EXCEPT ON/NS/NF/NB/QC/PE (CANADA) $0.93 USD AIR PASSENGER DEPARTURE TAX (HONG KONG) $15.40 USD AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION FEE (HONG KONG) $20.50 USD AIRPORT PASSENGER SECURITY CHARGE (HONG KONG) $7.00 USD AIRPORT DEPARTURE TAX (HUNGARY) $30.00 USD SECURITY CHARGE (HUNGARY) $5.40 USD INTERNATIONAL TOURIST FEE (JAPAN) $7.60 USD PASSENGER SECURITY SERVICE CHARGE (JAPAN) $4.00 USD PASSENGER SERVICE FACILITIES CHARGE (JAPAN) $16.30 USD CUTE USER FEE (JORDAN) $3.00 USD EMBARKATION TAX (JORDAN) $56.40 USD PASSENGER TERMINAL USAGE FEE (JORDAN) $16.50 USD AIRPORT FEE (QATAR) $16.50 USD PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE (QATAR) $4.10 USD QATAR PASSENGER SAFETY AND SECURITY FEE (QATAR) $2.70 USD AIRPORT SERVICE CHARGE (SPAIN) $21.60 USD AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY FEE (SPAIN) $0.70 USD SECURITY TAX (SPAIN) $3.50 USD EMBARKATION TAX (SRI LANKA) $60.00 USD ADVANCE PASSENGER PROCESSING USER CHARGE (THAILAND) $2.00 USD INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE FEES (THAILAND) $0.80 USD PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE (THAILAND) $20.30 USD PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE (UNITED KINGDOM) $21.40 USD OTHER TAXES & CARRIER-IMPOSED FEES $19.00 USD Total $7,113.23 USD per person |

Called the AA RTW desk and am in the process of booking this DONE3:
BUD-DOH-CMB-BKK-HKG-NRT-BOS-ORD-YVR-ORD-BOS-MAD-TLV,AMM-LHR-BUD (ORD both quick transit, DOH and LHR under 24h transit, TLV-AMM surface) http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=BUD-DOH-C...X=720x360&PM=* They said that they have to bill in the currency of the credit card's issuing country, so hopefully that means they'll convert the ex-BUD pricing to USD rather than quote me ex-USA pricing. The "carrier surcharges" make a mockery of the fixed price plus real taxes. |
