Not really. You have to leave the first segment the same, but could change the second as long as you keep it to a transit in DOH (assuming you make stopovers later in Europe/ME)

Sorry. Can you explain that a bit further for me?

In my situation outlined above, I want MPM-xDOH-CMN-xDOH-CPH-xDOH but QF can't find availability DOH-CMN-DOH so they've dropped those two sectors and simply booked me DOH-CPH-xDPH. If I ticket it as is, where the MPM-DOH is firm, will it create an issue if I go to slot xDOH-CMN-xDOH in there after ticketing?

At the moment, as outlined in the post above, it's a stop. I want to convert it to a transit which I assume shouldn't be an issue, whereas the reverse (transit to stop) would be.

It should not cause a problem.

(As an example: I bought my ex-KRT DONE4 from AA; it had just one AA segment, its codeshare on RJ's AMM-JFK flight. After a couple of months, there was a schedule change, and I noticed that AA had moved me onto the RJ flight number. So I had an AA-issued ticket with no AA flights on it. I expect AA had realised how little they were going to make on that flight, decided they could do better selling that seat to someone else and so moved me to RJ.)
She asked me why I was calling her to book when I didn't have a single flight in my itinerary on her airline.
Very interesting about being moved to another flight!

u can try to see but u can also come up.with a backup plan with a done6 involving qf.
Thanks! Trying to make that work! This is like a full time job!

Give Qantas another shot. Push them if they say something's not allowed when the collective wisdom of FlyerTalk knows better.
On it! Thanks for the pep talk!

Certainly. It was 131211, the number for Qantas Platinums. Try the regular number if you're not Platinum. I think it's 131313. Perhaps start by asking the agent if he or she is familiar with the oneworld Explorer rules
Thank you! And good to know!

It depends
The particular routing under discussion started with MPM-xDOH-BKK...

Once you have paid and been ticketed:
IF you want to make a change to the first flight AND the base fare has increased THEN you must pay the fare difference.

So the person who ticketed the above itinerary (who happens to be me:)) needed to be certain he could live with the dates of the first two flights
because as we all now know, the fare has increased.

While I could change the date of the second flight without penalty, to do so would create a stopover in DOH, which is not allowed because I already have stopovers in Europe/Middle East at the end of the itinerary.

how are u going to get it reprice when you are only transiting in doh?

pbd456 Aug 4, 2016 10:04 am

CX told me that even if i dont change the first flight prior to departure, cx would still charge me the fare difference. cx only revalidate if the date change is on cx. otherwise, it will reissued even changing date for other one world carrier (which is good as aa wont have the same ticket number for all.flight.)

Why would it reprice if the first leg stays the same?

pbd456 Aug 4, 2016 10:07 am

if the fare sticks on qf, i will.make another done5 with qf and pay a reroute fee to get rid of all qf segment to keep it a done5.but no swp.

skunker Aug 4, 2016 10:10 am

I may be wrong. You aren't changing the first leg, but you are changing the ticketed points. danger, check with QF on what they say.
Code:

CHANGES BEFORE DEPARTURE
A/ CHANGES ARE PERMITTED PROVIDED TICKETED POINTS
REMAIN THE SAME. IF THE FIRST FLIGHT COUPON IS
BEING CHANGED AND THE FARE LEVEL HAS INCREASED
SINCE THE TICKET ISSUANCE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
THE OLD AND NEW FARE BE CHARGED. IF THE FARE
LEVEL HAS DECREASED SINCE TICKET ISSUANCE NO
          REFUND WILL APPLY.
          -
B/ CHANGES TO TICKETED POINTS ARE PERMITTED AT A
CHARGE OF USD125.00 PER TRANSACTION. IF THE FARE
LEVEL HAS INCREASED SINCE TICKET ISSUANCE THE
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW FARE WILL
ALSO BE CHARGED. IF THE FARE LEVEL HAS DECREASED
SINCE TICKET ISSUANCE NO REFUND WILL APPLY.

i dont agree with her. but there is no point to argue since i set up my flights mpm doh hkg jfk gru jnb with 6 days in hkg and i can then go to cx office to push to a later date.

she said that she would charge me a fare difference even if i change the date on gru jnb as their office.typically reissue.ticket on partner.airline on a date change.

it was ticket the day when there is a typhoon.hit.hk and they were busy. there is no point to argue as long as i can lock in the fare as aa and ba had up the price already.

I understand now the reason why the first two flights in the situation being discussed had to be locked in. Got it.

As skunker said I don't think it should be subject to a re-price of the base fare. As it stands my first leg is MPM-DOH stop. I want to make that DOH stop a stopover. If it was to go the other way (ie. a transit to a stop) then maybe a re-price would be on the cards, I don't know . . .

. . . but as skunker suggests, I don't think a re-price would be warranted.

Interesting. Those rules do in fact suggest a re-price in my scenario.

I will double-check with QF.

What about changing the date with AA's RTW desk to avoid this CX approach? I think that can be done. American may first try to refer you to CX but try to persuade them by saying any oneworld carrier can ticket the fare and that you've heard their RTW desk is the best.

it is fine. i can change.after flying first segment. this ticket is to.be used for 2018 to requalify exec plat. i dont want aa to own the ticket as i dont want any aa segment to maximize eqd
