As I recall, there have been reports here over the years that QR won't book xONEx trips. To get the ticket plated on their stock, you'll have to go through a travel agent. Of course, there are plusses and minuses with that too: does the TA's commission wipe out the savings from lower YQ? what about the hassle of sorting out problems en route? etc., etc.

With Fiji waiting (close?) to become a full Oneworld member (due April 1?) I'm wondering if it makes sense to book a RTW before joining. I would like to consciously choose the route via NAN, because it puts me in the more suitable, cheaper DGLOB34 fare. If I have to rebook after joining Oneworld and FJ is then a full member, would the DGLOB34 (if already booked) still be valid/possible/applicable despite the possibility of the ticket being re-issued or would I fall into the (in this specific case much more expensive) DONE4 or DONE5 fare?

With *ONE* what has happened before is the rules apply as the time of booking. So when FJ becomes a full OW member expect will not be able to add FJ to an existing *ONE* ticket, as FJ were not an allowable airline at the time.
When FJ becomes a full OW member expect will be some rules changes to *ONE*'s
The detailed rules for GLOB and *ONE* are different.

Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. I must have been confused by the online tool again. Vice versa helpful information that FJ would not be added to an existing *ONE* ticket retrospectively.
Additional question, apart from FJ: The booking process fails in the final step for SYD-DOH-CPT (QR) (alternatively also to JNB) on all tried dates with the message: “An error has occurred due to waitlist on the below flight(s). By changing the following flight(s), your booking may succeed.” – I can't find too much on this (except "wait and hope"), but I'm wondering if it's worth trying to contact the AA RTW desk about this, or is it hopeless?
Also in general, will the AA RTW desk even help me/accept my booking if no or only one leg is flown with AA (in this case LAX-HNL)? I would like to do the TATL part on AY instead of AA as it keeps taxes lower.

The OW tool is know for errors. Same true and other false errors
Worth a try with AA RTW desk.
Real taxes are the same for every route/airline/class of travel.
Carrier surcharges can vary with issuing airline and/or carrier-flight number. Are posts on carrier surcharges in this in this or other OW threads. Very hard to predict carrier surcharges.

Surcharges arent the big problem, its more about the fact for TATL it indeed is a lot cheaper going OSL-HEL-LAX (AY) instead of OSL-LHR-LAX (AA). For SYD-DOH-DOH (QR) this would be the best option in terms of earning NTPs and avoding an overland via JNB.

Would like to share some data point after booking my first DONE4 (ex-OSL)
AA: Didn't have luck as tried two different agents, both requiring me to book at least one AA coded flight for over overwater sector, so no dice for the options
CX: Same as most said in the board, the hotline staff are not too familiar with the ticket, the first agent randomly booked me into all sorts of business class RBDs, so I ended up having an itinerary with J/D/I for all my requested flights and no call back within 48hrs, so first itinerary gets automatically cancelled
Called again in a few days time after some tweaks, a different agent picked up the call, got some idea what the ticket was about, but had to remind them I have to book all sectors in "D", then took about 10mins to build the itinerary. Sadly system wasn't able to price it and require the backend team to further verify the itinerary. Waited for 30hrs and got a call from the backend team, first informed I must have at least one CX flight in the itinerary, else they can't proceed further, so I just moved one of the QR coded CX operated flight back to CX coded/operated. Then waited for another hour for them to call back and confirm the routing is valid and could price it out.
Overall, still fine with CX's service on this one, and it seems they are pretty open to book you in codeshare flights as long as there are availabilities, though foreseeing future changes might need longer turnaround time if the system cant process automatically
