+/- 3 day Search

Not working. July 16-22 MSP-SIN Cheapest Fare on multiday search shows $8300. Single day Search shows Several Routes for $2043.

This isn't new though. I remember this happening in the old one often.

Don't trust +/- 3 Day Search.

award booking problems

Sorry if this posting shows up twice, i think it got blocked as spam on the main thread!

Hi everyone, hoping that any of you can give me some advice as to what to do here. I've tried to book an award flight from YUL-BKK from May 9-19, and have been able to find the following:

TO:
Fri, May 9 AF logo Air France 347 Equipment: 747
Depart: 8:05 PM Montreal, QC (YUL) Approx. flight miles: 3,433
Arrive: 8:50 AM Paris (CDG) Non-Stop
Duration: 6 hr 45 min
Time between flights: 10 hr 30 min
Sat, May 10 AF logo Air France 164 Equipment: Airbus A343
Depart: 7:20 PM Paris (CDG) Approx. flight miles: 5,857
Arrive: 11:45 AM Bangkok (BKK) Non-Stop
Duration: 11 hr 25 min

FROM:
Mon, May 19 AF logo Air France 173 Equipment: Airbus A343
Depart: 11:00 PM Bangkok (BKK) Approx. flight miles: 5,857
Arrive: 6:20 AM Paris (CDG) Non-Stop
Duration: 12 hr 20 min
Time between flights: 6 hr 55 min
Tue, May 20 AF logo Air France 344 Equipment: 747
Depart: 1:15 PM Paris (CDG) Approx. flight miles: 3,433
Arrive: 2:40 PM Montreal, QC (YUL) Non-Stop

For some reason, it won't let me book. I've tried almost 10x!! I keep getting an error message 184.

Any advice to pull this through? I've tried nwa.com/jp as well, but to no avail.

Thanks for any help!

Search for fares Q and above.
Select an outbound leg, then a return leg.
When both are shown, first leg is V class and second is H.

Message 184

When I try to book an award ticket on nwa.com, after I select the return portion (which the button is available to click -site says available) I get the following message in red and am taken back to the beginning to search for travel:

"We are sorry, there was a problem completing this reservation. Please contact nwa.com Customer Service at 1-800-692-6955 for assistance. (Message 184)"

I called, was told they would ticket it over the phone and open a help-ticket to resolve the message 184, telling me it was probably a HTML/SQL language translation error and that it wasn't my problem/not to worry. I was short of 1500 miles so I purchased the difference online since the rep said he would be able to ticket it for me after my miles became available.

Being short 1500 miles wasn't the issue because when I tried other flight options, nwa.com would give me the option to click on a hyperlink to buy the extra miles needed to ticket the reservation - this is the step that gives me the error message 184 when trying to ticket the flight I wanted that showed available.

The 2,500 miles I bought online were deposited immediately while I was on the phone with the rep. After holding for some time, the rep says he can not ticket it for me because there were some kind of fare rules that needed to be overridden by Worldperks area to ticket. He advised me to call Worldperks 1-800-447-3757 when they later opened (I was booking after they had closed at 12am central). The help-ticket was opened (KMM16074355V76027L0KM), but a few hours later closed by email saying they were unable to duplicate the problem (even though I tried again after I received the email and problem still existed; as well as the phone rep who opened the ticket was also able to duplicate the problem).

I just called Worldperks and was told the issue was no availability on the return in PerkSaver WBC except on the third segment. I explained there were two return options showing available at nwa.com. The rep was not able to ticket it for me saying the seats would not release for her, so I agreed to be booked in Coach PerkSaver instead just to be relieved of this entire ordeal and actually be able to travel.

Appears there is an issue with nwa.com showing false availability when actually only one segment of 3 are available. Here is the itinerary that was showing available on nwa.com but gave me the 184 message:

For the outbound: PerkSaver Coach 30,000 miles:
Tue, Apr 8 Northwest Airlines 1631
Depart: 12:44 PM Albany, NY (ALB)
Arrive: 2:33 PM Detroit, MI (DTW)
Tue, Apr 8 Northwest Airlines 71
Depart: 3:55 PM Detroit, MI (DTW)
Arrive: 6:15 PM Nagoya (NGO)

Returning for 60,000 miles PerkSaver First/World Business Class:
Wed, Apr 16 Northwest Airlines 78
Depart: 12:30 PM Nagoya (NGO)
Arrive: 2:00 PM Tokyo (NRT)
Wed, Apr 16 Northwest Airlines 12
Depart: 4:15 PM Tokyo (NRT)
Arrive: 3:00 PM Detroit, MI (DTW)
Wed, Apr 16 Northwest Airlines 1518
Depart: 9:34 PM Detroit, MI (DTW)
Arrive: 10:59 PM Albany, NY (ALB)

The DTW-ALB segement was the only one which had PerkSaver WBC seats open on the return according to the phone rep.

This is frustrating when trying to orchestrate multiple traveler's itineraries (I'm the "travel agent" for the family) using my awards on different airlines to arrive as comfortably as possible around the same times as each other.

I would not have purchased the extra 2,500 miles for $95 if the phone rep didn't tell me he needed me to do that first before he ticketed the itinerary. My motivation for booking WBC on the return was due to the total trip duration of almost 24 hours - it would have been nice to shower, eat, & relax in the new WP lounge at Narita (2 hour layover) and Detroit (6 hour layover).

I like nwa.com better than aa.com for booking award travel - it's far more advanced with more options for ways to search & redeem (multi-stop is great). I'm posting this in hopes the problem that triggers message 184 is fixed for future use of nwa.com.

Oh, come on eyeween! ;)

Welcome to FT!

Many international reward flights don't seem to work right with the new software, yet. I've had to call up and ticket them directly.

Trying to book NRT-HKG latter half of May(anyday) No B fare showing up, only Y shows, but calling agent telling me plenty of B available.
Yesterday, I booked NRT-SIN, B shows but at time of purchase I was forced to purchase Q instead(computer offered lower priced tix only, called agent to sort out)

does anyone noticed these problems?

Are you using the NW.Japan site? Most of my inquiries always
come up with a B fare, although I don't ask for it. So my question
always is, where are the lower fares. Of course I never call, so
I don't have an answer. NW ( as well as UA ) prices themselves
so out of the market Intra-Asia, that I am giving my business to
Japanese carriers.

I checked both JP and US site, same result, there's noway I could pull B class
starting 1st of April.

Exleftseat Apr 2, 2008 3:36 am

I tried NRT-SIN all day and it comes up as no flights available on the
Japan site. in May. I think something is wrong. I also looked at HKG
and all i will do is pull up H fares. And BKK, SIN and HKG all display
the promo fare status. Haven't seen low prices like this forever on
NWA. I also cannot pull up B fares.Something is seriously wrong. Will
try again tomorrow.

imakinov Apr 2, 2008 10:14 pm

small updates...
It now works to pull B upgrade if I don't login, but after I login as platinum, all I get is Y upgrade, which I can obtain Z upgrade thru Amex thus this makes no sense...I think something is seriously wrong on the system.(same happens to US site).

Exleftseat Apr 2, 2008 10:58 pm

You are right, I can pull up B fares now as well and SIN shows
flights again, although Promo only. Let's hope all these changes
mean they are working on it. Calendar still does not work as
it should.

boxo Apr 9, 2008 4:53 pm

The calendar thing is exasperating!

And now, I can't get the extra segs (drop-down 1, 2) to do a multi-city search.

Jaimito - lol... i called to ask if they could ticket directly, and the sales agent looked into it. apparently there's some sort of "international routing issue" which disabled it even for them. after some annoyance back-and-forth, all they could do was offer to refund back the cost of moving some air mileage :( i ended up having to do a multi-stop instead. oh well.

Here's a fun one!

While looking at my WP account this afternoon I tried to get back to the NW main page by clicking on the "NWA" logo at the top of the page. The link directed me to an endless loop of NW Asia homepages to which I had to go to KLM's website and back to NW USA. I can't seem to replicate it again so it must have been a little blip.

Bug in NW Reservation System

I believe I have found a bug in the NW Reservation system, in the flight search function. I have learned over time to use the Flight Search function to "glean" information about remaining R class seats in my flights to/from MSP/SEA. I have discovered, recently, an apparent bug when I search for flights about 3 days out from departure. I sometime receive this error message: "Results found include an online partner carrier that is not able to be purchased on nwa.com, please contact 1 800 447 3757 to book your flights."

When I do my searches, I do them one way for a specific date with the "WorldPerks Mileage Upgrade" checkbox clicked.

Since this has now happened to me three times in the past two weeks, I decided to log an e-mail ticket with NW technical assistance. Their response to the issue I have logged is pretty pathetic. They just have their automated Knowledge Mangement database spit me back a canned response. I respond n back with more information and I then get back the SAME response! It goes like this:

To purchase a one-way reservation, please:

* Visit our homepage at www.nwa.com
* Click on "Reservations Center" at the top of the page
* Click on "Shop for Flights" on the left sidebar
* Select "One-way" under the "Flight Options" section
* Provide any additional search data and click "Search For Flights"

I believe this information will answer your questions about booking One-way reservation. Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines. We value your patronage and consider it a privilege to serve your travel needs.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
