Quote: I guess you never fly other Skyteam carriers then. Interesting. So much for the old 'wing alliance'. Would you care about a 'middle seat guarantee' on CO, DL, KL, AF ... for WP Plats ?
There are many rules which are specific to the individual program, such as EUA, OPUPs, earning and redeeming, lounge access etc., but one of the few system-wide Skyteam benefits is 'select seating'.
I don't know your flying pattern, looks like you can get everywhere with NW, good for you .
Nope, almost never. I've flown on DL once since becoming a NW FF (needed an early arrival in CVG and so I flew Comair -- I'm still waiting for the miles and finally gave up) and zero times on CO. I think I flew once on KLM metal, too, AMS-LHR.

I've flown DL three or four times as an elite and have yet to have access to its select seating after booking the flight (that is, after booking after having WP number linked to reservation). I might have access to better seating at check-in, but not two months out.

Quote: Funny how none of the chAAnges over the past 4 years have made me leave.

It's AAmazing what happens when an AAirline decides to make positive changes to attract more business (carrot) instead of stupid changes that drive business away (stick).
And what exactly do you call the abandonment of MRTC?

Ditto.

Radiocycle is entitled to his unabashed view that the Northwest glass is always half -- make that 9/10ths -- full.

And the rest of us are entitled to disagree.

The removal of MRTC was a devaluation for the many -- and hit EXPs too -- but a couple of years later AA started giving EXPs free domestic upgrades. And that is something that was not an oprtion previously unless using "earned" or "purchased" 500-mile upgrade stickers. And even domestic first class on AA is a better experience than coach seating with MRTC layouts.

The pitch in the exit row did not change and that is where I sit 99% of the 2% of the time when I am not in F or J.

As GUWonder stated, complimentary upgrades for EXP more than made up for it.

I realize that Executive Platinums are virtually unaffected by the elimination of MRTC. But no so for Platinums, Golds, and non-elites. I, for one, a longstanding AA Gold elite, defected for greener pastures because of that change.

You have to call their customer service # & ask for it. I have ~9 DL reservations thru the end of Sept. & am in their premium seating in several flights on every itinerary.

Big Delta boo: having to call their reservations center for premium seating as a NW elite. What you get is an outsourced phone agent who will claim that premium seating is for Delta Medallions only. Takes about 30 minutes or so to finally get you into that seat.

That's been my experience, though without the end result. Part of the problem also is not being able to view the select seating. Everything in the front appears to be unavailable. It's been since November, so maybe things have improved.

Did your ability to get exit rows and bulkhead seats (if that's your thing) change at all with the elimination of MRTC?

I'll soon be lifetime Platinum with AA. One of the perqs I am looking forward to is being able to get the exit row at time of booking if I do not upgrade/am no longer EXP. I do not want to see AA adopt stupid ideas like this hairbrained scheme of NW's, so I hope Coach Choice causes NW great financial hardship.

If you use delta.com reservations, specifically this website:
http://www.delta.com/booking/searchFlights.do

And, click the search by schedule option, search for your flight, then pull up the seatmaps, the premium seats will be highlighted in orange.

Next time you're in an airport, go and use their Delta Direct phone. It will never route you to an outsourced agent and from my experience, they're knowledgeable and never have problem getting me into their premium seats.

Why do you care so much? I have reasons I don't fly particular carriers, and I have reasons I try not to fly certain carriers. Wishing the company and its employees a financial hardship because of it? Absolutely not -- I just avoid giving them my business.

Yes and no. No, in that officially I was still eligible to pre-reserve exit row and bulkhead seating (save for row 7 seating on the MD-80s perpetually being blocked for the handicapped). Yes, in that there was more competition for the increasingly scarce allocation of desireable coach seats.
