There are many rules which are specific to the individual program, such as EUA, OPUPs, earning and redeeming, lounge access etc., but one of the few system-wide Skyteam benefits is 'select seating'.

Nope, almost never. I've flown on DL once since becoming a NW FF (needed an early arrival in CVG and so I flew Comair -- I'm still waiting for the miles and finally gave up) and zero times on CO. I think I flew once on KLM metal, too, AMS-LHR.
