While I disagree with the font choice, I think he's correct. As I read it, elites will have access to the "Choice" seats from time of booking until 24 hours before. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how the email read to me. ^

Edit: Hm, I just checked my res for a few weeks from now and I'm not allowed to select a CoachChoice seat. Maybe the new rules are not completely implemented, but it looks like the same ol', same ol' right now.

LackofChoice seats are still not selectable by Elites. Sure, if the seats were changed from FuggedabouddaChoice to P seats, I'd expect them to be available and I made some of those changes myself. But this still doesn't make all the aisle seats available to me on purchase, which as a NW Plat I should be able to expect. I should be able to click on any green seat and choose it on booking. I never get everything I want, though....

FORMERLY CoachChoice seats. Those that are STILL CoachChoice will be opened up to ALL at the 24 hour mark. SkyTeam Elites = free. Nonelites = $15.

Mods, we have 2 threads essentially going in the same direction. Can they be merged?

Let's find out what really works before getting too excited. I'm still stuck in a middle seat on NW0282 on 5/1/06, and can't change my seat selection to either of the remaining two $C seats (20C & D).

I did just get 6D on a DC93, and notice that row 11 is all $E (and I currently can NOT select any of these Row 11 seats even if I wanted to, which I don't). Didn't it used to be row 12 that was $E, which is where I was seated before nabbing 6D?

Um, "up to 24 hours prior" can just as easily mean "within 24 hours" as opposed to "until 24 hours."

At http://www.nwa.com/features/coachchoice/ it more clearly states: "Available within 24 hours of departure for USD $15. WorldPerks Elite and SkyTeam Elite members may select these seats at no charge." I interpret that to mean the seats are blocked until OLCI, which makes sense.

No mention of 36 hours anywhere.

You can select formerly RoachChoice seats that are now regular "P" and "E" seats. But you can't select current $C or $E seats unless it's within 24 hours.

Also: I note that at least on some flights (some upcoming DC-9-50 flights) it appears they've moved the RoachChoice Exit rows to the non-reclining exit rows!

When I first read the e-mail I thought for sure you could only get the seats the "last 24 hours" before your flight. After reading it a second time what I get out of it clearly is that any elite can book the seats without cost until the "24 hour mark".....My understanding of the e-mail makes this a great policy ....however if I am reading this wrong they really have done nothing. You'll have masses of people setting alarms to do OLCI at the 24 hour mark......Which way is it????????????

Judging by the fact that I can't select $E or $C seats in my current reservations that are more than 24 hours out (and the fact that it would make no sense to lock elites out of the $E and $C seats at the 24 hour mark), I'm pretty confident that it's "within 24 hours" and not "until 24 hours."

There's very little need to set your alarm for the 24 hours mark, because
  • They've moved most of the $C seats out of the "P" section, restoring the number of "P" seats available to elites in advance to near pre-RoachChoice levels.
  • They've moved many of the $E seats from the reclining exit rows to the non-reclining exit rows, so the more-desirable exit row seats are again available to elites in advance.

The net result of all this is that we have almost as many seats available to us for advance assignment as we did before the introduction of RoachChoice, but it will be easier than before for last-minute elites to get aisle seats, and NW gets to milk the non-elites for some extra cash if they want to guarantee a better seat.

I call that a win-win-win. Good job, NW! (finally)

Well if thats the case then I agree with ya! Whatever way it is if they are allowing you to preselect good seats and "others" are the "24 hour window period" then finally NW is listening and they got it right!

They still are. This comment was referring to having to call Delta, not having to call NWA. I have never gotten an outsourced reservations agent on NWA.

It will be a mad rush of elites and non-elite vying for the same 6 seats at 24 hours.
One thing a lot of people were complaining about re the 36 hour window was that it could fall in the middle of the night. A 24 hour window is a lot less likely to have THAT problem.

Also, by 24 hours out, theoretically if you're going to be upgraded you know it already. So it will be a mad rush of non-upgraded elites, which might be a few less people.

Other than that, I still don't like the program or the direction it encourages other airlines to move in...

Cool!
Nice! I used this to switch to the reclining exit row in all of my reservations where I couldn't get bulkhead seats. The only thing I don't like is not being able to book CC seats until 24 hours, but really there aren't any of them left that I really care about so the program has a very little chance of affecting me. ^

There were two threads. The one you posted in was merged into the larger one.

Does anybody know precisely when does the clock start?
If you have connections, how does the window work? Can you book seats for the entire itinerary at the 24hour window for the first flight?
