There are many rules which are specific to the individual program, such as EUA, OPUPs, earning and redeeming, lounge access etc., but one of the few system-wide Skyteam benefits is 'select seating'.
I don't know your flying pattern, looks like you can get everywhere with NW, good for you

I've flown DL three or four times as an elite and have yet to have access to its select seating after booking the flight (that is, after booking after having WP number linked to reservation). I might have access to better seating at check-in, but not two months out.
