On an unrelated note: sbagdon, please tell me how you have flown SO many segments and still are a silver.

NW has repeatedly written to FTers that they Elite Boarding should be honored on all flights unless there are too many Elites, or the flight is substantially delayed. If there are instances where this is not occurring, especially with the implementation of general boarding, I think they should hear about it.

So I dont any longer either. It is ridiculous the amount of time spent "loading bags" in the overhead. If the airlines wanted to truly improve their times, they would eliminate travelers carrying on everything.
I agree with this concept, but there are some valid complaints with checking bags - unreasonable delays, dammaged or lost baggage, etc.. Now, if I could check my fairly small rolling bag planeside and pick it up at the jetway after the flight, I'd be more than happy to hand it off.

Steve I too flew in from FLL yesterday morning. I was suprised when I heard the announcement after the children/special needs...."that we will now begin general boarding"...being I had an upgrade and wanted to get to my seat I was near the gate anyway....and it wasn't until after I went through that gate attendant realized her mistake and then called first class passengers and elites. At that point there were so many others near the gate I dont know what they did. But for one day even the NWA employees forgot the new boarding procedures!

43,438/47. Too many DTW-ORD day-trips. EQM/EQS ratio is still catching up, from the red-eyes. Figure two more red-eyes, and I'm Gold...

It was sort of funny, if you looked at my flight at the correct physical location. The Fs had a straight line, and the gate-lice were hovering around the gate. The GA turned back a bunch of Y pax, then gave up. I didn't hear an Elite call. Then again, the flight defintely wasn't Elite heavy, as there was at least 1 empty seat in F.

FLL is always a hoot.

I was in FLL yesterday (also) flying to MEM. Left the Presidents Club just in time to catch First Class boarding after special needs (which was taking a while, since the flight had at least 4-5 wheelchairs). BTW, pretty nice Presidents Club at FLL; and really close to the gates.

I personally think the general boarding all rows (after elite/first class) works OK on the A320/319 or DC9 since it is not really that many passengers. It is a bit crazier on the 757's; which I think have a better boarding process from the back of the plane.

Flight to MEM was uneventful, and had at least "4" seats left open in FC. Really good FA's over the past few days, though, as I have mentioned before, I have had very good experiences over the past year.

Steve, I think you deserve a party in the Main DTW Worldclub to celebrate your Gold Seems like we have been following your saga for quite a few months.

General boarding works horribly on the A332/B742, at least in my experience in the past month. Yuk.

As long as it doesn't prohibit a Plat celebration, I'm all for it...

And how is it that we were both in FLL on the same day, and didn't pass?!?!

General boarding with heavy overhead usage appears to be the issue. Plenty of causes of why people carry on so much luggage, plenty of reasons why people have trouble loading carry-on.

NW can't fix the problem until they identify the problem...

Short
I really think that's a very broad and draconian idea. Not all rolling carryons are necessarily bin wasters. For example I have a Targus rolling laptop backpack. I insist on rolling bags after too many jogs in MSP (anyone remember when the MSP train ran back and forth empty for a year of testing). Its medium sized and bullet shaped which ensures it fits under my seat every time - even in coach. Your idea would ban my bag for no real reason.

CNN just reported that the new system will be like Southwest with no assigned seats. My understanding was that there were assigned seats, but general boarding.

Is CNN wrong?

Coach Choice abandoned?

I read today (Aircraft Interiors magazine) that Coach Choice is to be abandoned. Apparently it has recieved a lot of criticism from FA's that it's creating havoc because too many unsuitable people are choosing it and adding too much to their workloads.

Can anyone confirm?

(I did do a search on this forum and found nothing)
