Does CO->Amtrak->UA really work?

I have about 35000 NW, 60000 UA miles and Ms. michaelr has 25000 NW, 25000 UA miles. I am thinking to move all of our miles to Amtrak and then onwards to UA.
How do I initiate the NW->CO transfer? Do I call WorldPerks and ask them to do the transfer? Can I only credit future NW flights to CO?
The Amtrak transfer is limited to 25000 per year. We will both get another 15000 NW miles in January. Can I transfer the 25k per account this year and another 25k next year in February?

Does he mean, when you take a new flight you tell them to put those miles on your Midwest account? So it's only good for future stuff.

But, I wonder:
Generally speaking, is there less seat availability when you claim an award through a partner?
Has anyone had any specific experience claiming AA awards through YX?
Thanks,

It would seem to me that 25,000 GR points is worth more as an airline mile than as a GR point.
For example, I would use GRs on Amtrak for Acelka to NY. 10,000 GR's = 1 way first class, which currently sells for $150.
So, if you think you can get more than 1.5 cents per mile in value with airline miles, transferring GRs to airline miles is the way to go.</font>

I've transfered my CO miles into my Amtrak account and redeemed it for UA miles, but on my confirmation email it states, "Thank you for redeeming for an Amtrak Guest Rewards item. Youve ordered:
5,000 Airline Miles
Item # 5001
5,000 Points , etc.
Your reward will be shipped within 2 to 4 weeks. Please keep this confirmation email for your records and Contact Us if you have additional questions."
Is this transfer suppose to work electronically or via paper reward? Any recent experience? Thanks.

Mine's in process. Transferred 10,000 orphaned CO miles of my own, and 15,000 of my wife's to my new Amtrak account. That took 2 days to post. Then went online and got the same message for the total 25,000 as Lulu - that my (5) certificates for 5000 miles will ship in 2 to 4 weeks. Sounds like it should go electronically, but if not, will keep you posted.
That said - I agree that some of the rail awards are good values for the points...but by doing this, I've just salvaged the 12,000 orphaned UA miles I have also - so 12000 UA of my own + 10000 CO of my own + 15000 of my wife's = 37000 UA miles - I only need 3000 more for a free 1st class in the US (May, BWI - LAS) - I really only need the 3000, but I might just buy the 5000 from my wife ($50) who has nearly 50,000, since after we redeem her 40,000 she'll again have orphan miles...or I work with guys with orphaned miles so maybe they'll send them to me for a "deep discount" in 2004 after I can transfer another 25,000...
Thanks for the info! It has really seemed to work!

Well my Amtrak miles have finally posted to my UA account, just 3 months late and after yet another call to Amtrak. The supervisor said there was a problem with the weekly data download to UA during September and that all transfers done then had to be redone manually.

Can NW and CO both be transfered??
Does it have to be in even increments ie 5000, 10,000 or may one transfer odd lots i.e. 9745 miles. I saw no mention of this on CO's website. How do I get info?
Thanks
