If I remember correctly, when I transferred my miles from CO to Amtrak, it was via a telephone conversation with a CO representative. I think that my transfer from Amtrak to UA was a via a phone conversation, this part I am not sure.
In other words, to be safe, there's nothing wrong with making a call.

When I selected that option, it shows the miles going into a 'Shopping Cart" and it says that I will receive my miles in the mail once I submit my request. Is that correct? I was thinking I could just online transfer the miles directly to UA Mileage Plus. Did I overlook something in the threads on how to transfer these directly into one's UA account? Thanks for any input/advise.
It is funny that Amtrak has not fixed this misleading info (has been there for years!). Just redeem your Amtrak miles on United and they will show up in your United account in less than a week. You will very likely also get a paper letter about this but your miles will probably hit your United account before you get the letter.

That's been my experience. The only phone call was with CO. No big deal and nobody hassles you, although I suspect that laundering miles in this way is going to raise a flag at some point for CO when they see so many miles passing through from people who rarely fly CO. At least I've had a RT in the past year on CO...
And as reported here, the Amtrak - UA exchange is usually about a week or so. Again, no big deal and that is completely done online. Just pay attention to the annual transfer limit.

Just completed transferring 15,000 miles from CO to Amtrak.
It took two service agent and about 25 minutes. The first agent told me that I can't transfer one pass miles to anywhere and refused to check with her supervisor. I said thank you and hang up then I called again. Unfortunately the same agent picked up the phone so hang up again. A few minutes later I called again and another agent picked up the phone. Again the agent told me I can't do that. I told her that my friend just did this a couple of days ago so she put me on hold for 15 minutes. Luckily when she returned she said she was able to do that and had completed the transfer and said I can expect the points in about 10-15 bussiness days. Is this a sign that they are going to discontinue this? The miles were taken off my account immediately with the following transaction:
9/09/2004 AMTRAK MILEAGE TRANSFER 2VX15
Just wondering, where in Amtrak or One Pass program is this transfer thing mentioned? I can't find them on neither program.

Thanks fellow flyertalkers! Without you guys I can't be a savvy traveller.

Never had that problem. But it is obscure and not a standard award (I suspect that there aren't a lot of people who would trade airline miles for rail miles).
The only mention I can find is here: http://www.continental.com/company/a...5150F990A8923F

both times they were immediately deducted from my continental account
i did the transactions about a week apart
just checked my account
both were withdrawn from my co acct in august
1st deposit of 5k to my united acct on 8/13
still waiting for that 2nd deposit
i will call them
after i get my last 20k from the intercontinental-delta promotion
which is supposed to occur on 9/19 or 9/20
