Diamond Club doesn't work on a calendar year basis. Your membership year would start with the day you become a member. If you sign up on 10th Feb, then you have 3 months to earn the miles to keep silver through until 9th Feb 2011. If you earn 16,000 miles during this period, you would then have re-qualified through until 9th Feb 2012.

Just did a status match from AA to CO. Pretty fast, too. I sent them an email yesterday morning and this morning I had a reply in my box. I didn't even know they did this until I started reading this forum. Thanks!

This discussion really belongs in the CO or US forum but to ensure completeness...
True. Though CO has great online checkin and kiosks at the airport, so there is no need to stand in line unless you skip the skycap and check luggage or have other special needs.
Not really accurate IME. I have no CO status and had no trouble boarding with the elite group. I had my old expired
UA *G card but the GA didn't even look at it (gotta find my current card)
This is totally unnecessary based on my experience. Also if you accidentally get miles credited to the wrong program it will be hard to fix.
From what I can tell, if you are *G in the *A program, the main things you will miss (without CO status match) is ability to pre-reserve certain seats (though many have reported success doing so anyway via call center), potential free upgrades on certain fares and bonus RDMs. On the plus side, se I got bonus EQMs from CO which I don't think I would have received from UA.
Welcome to FT!
You'll be stuck with your US *A Gold status; it's not "transferable" or mappable to CO. However, if you are trying to merely gain access to the elite check-in line, there shouldn't be any reason why you can't flash your *G from US to get in CO's line (well, I don't think there is any, except the ire of actual CO elites).

Early boarding is tough because your boarding group is based on your FF number. If you use your US number during online booking or online checkin, you will get priority due to *A, but you won't get credited the miles to CO, obviously. And if you put in CO, you won't be able to get the priority boarding.
UA *G card but the GA didn't even look at it (gotta find my current card)A potential solution, not that I condone this or that it would work, is to first print out your BP at home with your US FF number, then at the gate, ask the GA to switch to your CO number (assuming you want credit on CO) before boarding. Then when it's time to board, use your online BP while keeping your CO BP for later mileage verification if necessary. Again, not that this is "ethical" or would even work, but it's a solution. One hiccup could be that your onlnine BP would be invalid after the GA prints a new BP.

I would like to share my experience with CX and DL status match.
CX match:
I sent an email to "[email protected]" requesting status match with my Asiana Diamond (pdf of my profile and mileage information). They replied me back within 48 hours requesting a copy of my Asiana card and confirmed CX booking. Then I replied back with my membership card picture and my "proposed" CX itinerary. 48 hours later I am a CX Silver.
Just received my membership card and two very nice baggage tags (metallic casing with a plastic baggage tag insert) from CX (this takes around 3 weeks to arrive after my membership is upgraded).
DL match:
I sent an email to "[email protected]" requesting status match with my Asiana Diamond (pdf of my profile and mileage information). No reply from them for about 3 weeks and when I checked my delta account last weekend my account says I am a Gold Medallion.
I am now waiting for my DL membership kit
.
Thanks everyone who posted their past experience on this forum ^.

Qualified for AAdvantage Gold last year but have just moved to Hong Kong! Since AA don't fly out of HKG, I wondered what the best FF program I should try and target for a status match? CX, UA or CO, or all?
My flights this year will be made up of HKG to:
Tokyo (March)
Sydney (March)
Prague (May)
Las Vegas (June)
London (2/3 trips during 2010)
Toronto (August)
Budapest (October)
Miami/Orlando or Toronto (Dec)

You should go for CO, they will probably award you Gold within a day.
UA will certainly offer you a challenge to fly 15000 miles on UA metal before they grant you Premier Exec for a full year.

+1, but I doubt whether you would get Gold on CO, since AA's gold is equivalent to silver on *A. But you could then use the CO status to apply for a match from CX, since they are competitors of different alliances on HKG-US routes.
A match from AA to CX is a bit pointless imo, both are oneworld. I seriously doubt they will even grant you a status comp...

JoshThomas, IMHO, CX and OW is the best for your trips since CX can get you to most of your destinations nonstop whereas with *A and ST, not so easy. Also, CX treats it's own very well (lounge access/priority baggage already at Silver [lowest elite tier]) and far more op-ups than conservative SQ.
