FYI just called to cancel my Aerogold infinite card and they waived the fee for the second year because I was transitioning to the TD version...

Rocketmiles: 3,000 bonus Aeroplan miles

I think this is a good promo:
Rocketmiles is a third party hotel booking site. Instead of trying to provide discounted hotel rates, they provide hotels at normal rates but increased alrline miles.
Current promo is 3,000 Aeroplan bonus miles on your first booking.
So if you're booking a simple 1-night hotel stay, you can earn 4,000 Aeroplan miles quite easily.
There's also a link from Aeroplan's website here.
Credit to rewards canada blog for pointing this one out.

That said, the 3K bonus makes it worth it (to me, at least) to pay a little bit more than the lowest possible price, as a 4 night stay could yield 7K AE points. OK if you're paying maybe an extra $10 a night relative to the other sites, but I wouldn't pay too much more than that.

If you have an existing TD chequing account or had one that was closed after November 30, 2013, you are not eligible for the 20,000 Miles Offer.

(1) You HAVE to have a TD Aeroplan CC
(2) 100% MUST BE TARGETED. A note is placed on your CC account if targeted...
I know the T&Cs don't say so, but that's what the bank said.

20,000 or 25,000 Aeroplan for opening a new TD account
Great posts!
My analysis of TD's offer
The reward is: 25,000 Aeroplan miles
The cost is: $0, but about $40 opportunity cost for tying up some funds for a while. I don't see any additional fees for overdraft protection.
Net value: about $210 worth of Aeroplan miles
What to do:
Get a TD Unlimited Chequing Account. Keep it open for a while, say 6 months. (I do not see any specific length of time the account must remain open. Closing the account earlier than that might cause them to flag you.) Complete 2 of these 3 things: Direct deposit, Pre-Authorized debit, Online Bill Payment.
Fee strategy:
This account requires either a minimum deposit at all times to avoid the monthly fee. Strategy: Go find $3,500 and deposit it in the account. No fees otherwise. I estimate the total opportunity cost of keeping that money in the account at $40.
My math:
You will not be earning (much) interest on the $3,500 that you are committing for, say, 6 or 7 months time. Since the interest would have been taxable, your lost value is about 2% x $3,500 x 1/2 year.
Where to apply:
Apply on-line instead of in-branch, as durberville says.
Deadline:
March 31 to get the account. May 19 to make the required transactions.
Credit score:
If you are prone to limit your credit applications, then consider applying for just the bank account, and skip the overdraft protection.

Just a note on the CIBC Aerogolds. Currently 20k Aeroplan bonus, FYF. I already have one and called to get another to separate out business expenses, no problem, promo still applies. In fact, the CSR told me I could apply for as many as I want and get the promo on each.
So if you have a need for multiple cards, might be worth considering.
