Also declare lower income to get the plat, I got the free upgrade invite to World Elite for 10k miles a month after application and restating income after getting the card (although I dropped like 2.5k on the card in the first month if that triggered anything)

$15 first year net fee, used the companion ticket YVR to LAX, 35k AS miles... pretty happy with it!

Yikes! You forgot to use GCR for all/most MBNA cards? I haven't booked any MBNA cards without going through GCR, except for one time, the Best Western was offered for a higher promo 60K outside of GCR. This includes SmartCash, Best Western, Choice Privs and Alaska Air...all MCs, of course.

Oh well, only $60 rebate (was $75 during July 2013).

Ah, I hold no MBNA cards. I wasn't even going to get this one, but just needed those 25K miles and didn't want to transfer from SPG.

CIBC Aventura Flight Redemption Offers:

The offers based on the banner from the CIBC Rewards website states that you can fly on Porter between Toronto and New York for only 8,500 points as well as Chicago, Mont Tremblant and Burlington, VT for 10,000 points. Now, I am not a CIBC Aventura cardholder so I cannot tell you whether that is one way or round trip although I'm guessing round trip based on the Aventura award chart nor do I know the dates of the offer

https://rewards.cibcrewards.com/Home.aspx

Here is an update posted by a Rewards Canada reader over on my blog:
Terms are you have to travel with Porter Airlines by March 31, 2014. The travel date has to be at least 21 days from the date of booking and you have to book through the call center. You are unable to book it online. The 8500 and 10000 points are for round trips.

It picks me when I see promos like this for people who live out east, but there isn't an equivalent or similar promo for cardholders living out west. It makes me feel good that I cancelled my Aventura card after I got my welcome bonus....

It is annoying. Aventura has done this with Porter before... nice for the people in S. Ontario, but what about everyone else?

And Aeroplan? Check out the 15K short-haul destinations from YYZ: pretty much half the US eastern seaboard. Meanwhile, from YWG: Toronto... and Saskatoon.

Well, we get the much larger benefit of not having to live in S. Ontario!
