Canadian Credit Card Comparison
I was hoping with the help of others to start an updated credit card comparison like BlondeBomber did in '04. I don't know how to make an external link like she did so if someone could help me there. I know the margins are off and is difficult to read without an excel spread sheet. I had it in a word document but the margins got shifted over when I posted it and I tried to adjust it the best I could. I did spend a lot of time on this so I hope no one explodes when they have trouble reading it. I did it with good intentions. Here are the 4 credit cards that I carry. Note the wide difference in insurance coverage.

As long as you qualify (i.e., have a Social Security number and US address), you should be fine. Chase US and Chase Canada are pretty separate entities.

That's A LOT in annual fees...
The CIBC aeroplan was 1st year free. I don't normally carry this card. The TD first class I get the annual fee waived as I have an "all-inclusive" banking package The plantinum Amex has benefits that make the fee worth it (for me anyways). |

Just thought that I would add to this discussion. I am currently a CIBC Infinite AeroPlan holder who is being transferred(SOLD) to TD. I am a full banking customer with TD and when the dust settles, I will hopefully receive the new TD Infinite Aeroplan card from TD FREE!
TD had never been that accommodating in the past, so let's hope this happens. Anyway, you should call TD NOW and request the new TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card...they are offering it with $0 for the first year. But, you have to call or apply in-branch. I am the same profile as you, my 2 CIBC Aerogolds were sold to TD. I called TD last week and they gave me the Infinite card $0 FYF and 15,000 signup Aeros. Since you are a full banking customer at TD, as am I, ask if they have a pre-approved credit limit on your file. Use this to apply and avoid the hard pull on your credit. No need to hope and cross your fingers...TD is very willing to dish out their new Aeroplan cards. |

Your post is probably more appropriate in the TD credit card thread, but given that you are responding to another post in this thread, it's understandable why you posted here. While the TD-CIBC Aeroplan saga is continuing, consensus over at the mentioned forum is to apply with TD now. Once TD gets you as a customer from CIBC, the speculation goes, then you're probably not eligible for New Customer bonuses. If you apply now, you can be a New Customer and get the 15,000. Apply in branch, and ask for the First Year Free. |

I have a CIBC Aeroplan Visa (I am a CIBC banking customer, so I still have this card) and I plan to cancel it (or downgrade to a no-fee card) but I'd still like an Aeroplan credit card. If I can get one with no annual fee and bonus Aeroplan points, I am all over that! I just despise going into the branch........ Will calling work? |

Why is there no online application with no fee? Do they pressure you into signing up for a bank account when you call or go into the branch?

i just applied for, and was approved for, the CIBC aerogold card. I'm not a CIBC account holder nor a TD account holder. I have excellent credit and am really only doing it for the miles.
I received all the bonuses being offered (15k aeroplan miles on first purchase, 5k after $500 spent in 3 months, $0 fee) with essentially no questions being asked Should i take my points and run? Make the switch to TD right away? I have no intention of keeping either card and I'm not overly concerned about my credit score (over 800) |

Make sure you call or go in-branch to speak to a TD rep to get the fees waived. |
This may or may not be better suited towards the Amex MR forums, but since this is to do with meeting minimum spends...
I'm $37 away from meeting a $500 minimum spend on my Amex PRG, but I'm out of Canada for the next few months. Does anyone know if AC gift cards, purchased from AC.com, get the 2x airline bonus? Would there be a better way to get that $37 with the 2x MR points bonus through online purchases? |

Don't worry about the 2x. 37 points simply isn't worth getting worked up over. Just make any online purchase.
So, pewpew, you say you're out of the country for a few months...what about any of your utilities? Can you pay them online? I often just pay into say Rogers/Telus/Bell accounts, even though the bill is not due yet...goes in as a credit on my account, and when my next bill is generated it's reduced by, in your case, $37. You're just pre-paying by a month. Just a suggestion that might work for you. |
Metal alloy credit cards
Hello,
New to the forum, I posted the same question in another thread this one seems more appropriate. Are there any metal alloy credit cards in Canada? @:-) |

Rocketmiles: 3,000 bonus Aeroplan miles
http://wp.streetwise.co/wp-content/u...38-298x168.png
I think this is a good promo: Rocketmiles is a third party hotel booking site. Instead of trying to provide discounted hotel rates, they provide hotels at normal rates but increased alrline miles. Current promo is 3,000 Aeroplan bonus miles on your first booking. So if you're booking a simple 1-night hotel stay, you can earn 4,000 Aeroplan miles quite easily. There's also a link from Aeroplan's website here. Credit to rewards canada blog for pointing this one out. |

RocketMiles doesn't even list all the hotels
but if one can find "normal" rate or even better get reimbursed by work, go for it T&C from my email Qualifying Activity: To be eligible, the hotel reservation MUST BE BOOKED USING THIS PROMOTIONAL LINK (www.rocketmiles.com/aeroplan-3k-bonus) by 11:59PM CT on 6 April 2014 and travel by 31 December 2014 (a yellow banner at the top of the search results page will clearly show if search criteria qualify for the bonus). Limited to first time customers and subject to investigation post-purchase. Limit one per customer. Limit one per stay. Promotional offer can not be applied to existing bookings or retroactively applied to bookings not made using the link above. Promotional offer CANNOT be combined with ANY other bonuses or offers. Rocketmiles reserves the right to retract a bonus AT ANY TIME if it detects fraud, stacking of bonuses, technical errors, cancel/rebooking activity (defined by identical search criteria), or ANY other deceptive behavior attempted to circumvent the limits expressed above. See www.rocketmiles.com/terms for full terms, or call our friendly concierges at 1-855-355-7625 with questions of eligibility or for any other assistance. ®Aeroplan is a registered trademark of Aimia Canada Inc. |

OK if you're paying maybe an extra $10 a night relative to the other sites, but I wouldn't pay too much more than that. |
