I can't seem to access shop.ca, I was just getting their custom error message and now it's timing out. Never had trouble reaching it before... is it working for the rest of you?

Had this problem the first time I ordered something from shop.ca but I removed all cookies and deleted history and retried and it worked.

And I just ordered an item last night and got the $50 off after tax. That being said, I ended up paying $13 out of pocket - so can't speak to the problems others have experienced about sub $50 purchases.

OK, the site seems to be up and running again...

With the GCR $50 cashback it is effectively $10 for 28k AP miles and a $50 Shop.ca GC

http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/product...urceCode=NTrSD

Or 70$ back at RFD.

And there's no minimum spend in the fine print, simply keep the account active for 90 days:

'To receive the additional 10,000 Aeroplan Miles offer ("Additional Miles"), you must: (a) apply for a TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card Account ("Account") through the link on this website between September 1, 2015 – October 30, 2015 and (b) keep your Account open, active and good standing for 90 days after Account approval.'

Everybody gets the shop ca giftcard though, so it's not really a perk specific to this offer.

Perkopolis has no cashback but has first year waived and you can use the shop.ca promo code too

heraclitus Sep 4, 2015 8:26 am

Further to shop.ca, anyone else getting the "The promo code you've applied has already been redeemed on the Credit Card entered' error message when attempting payment? I haven't used the promo code so I'm not sure why it's doing this.

I've emailed them and am waiting for a response, but I thought I'd check to see if there is a workaround?

I appreciate the promo, but it does seem that nothing is ever easy when shop.ca is involved...

EDIT: This just popped up in my inbox:

We're sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Personally I think the Perkopolis offer is better, 25K, FYF, no $1K spending even

As a data point for churners ...
7 months ago, a bank clerk made multiple credit checks on multiple days for the same credit card application. He made mistakes.

We filed complaints: to him, his branch supervisor, various ombudsman levels all the way to the OBSI. All confirmed in writing the mistake of the bank clerk, and at the same time saying they could not remove the wrong credit checks as they were not system errors but human errors.

At the time, they cost us 22 points - we could document because nothing else changed on our files during that time.

Today, 7 months later, the wrong checks (2) were finally removed. Score bumped up 10 points.

Seems hard checks do drag scores down for longer then 6 months... Something for churners to keep in mind.

Just bought a $49.99 item, but apparently tax and shipping both count towards the $50, so I'm five bucks out of pocket.

I assume you are referring to EQ. I had a much more pleasant experience with TU in a similar sitch. TU removed the pull.

I bought 49.99 headphones haha

only had tonavigate through about a dozen error messages and the prices are insanely inflated.... no way i'd shop there normally

loun80 Sep 4, 2015 4:59 pm

Just bought a watch for $1,600 and got over 25,000 AP points.

Does the shop.ca promo work per TD Aero card? Or only one per shop.ca account/Aero account?

Per TD Card

Some say TDFCT or Gold Elite may even work, YMMV
I did try 2nd order with TDFCT, it went through too, so far

Spending?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if there any good tips to meet the spending criteria for your
CC signup bonuses. I usually buying tons of giftcard for grocery or liquor store for $1,000. But, it is quite painful to spend them.:D

If there any good tips or tricks for easy way??

I recently signed up for TD Visa Infinite Privilege card which gives 50,000 AP
and it requires $1000 in 90 days. I'm planning to buy giftcard, but just wondering if there any easy way. Thanks!^

Prepay car insurance/monthly lease
Buy plane tickets you were gonna buy anyway
If your place allows it, pay rent via cc

Also, 1k in 90 days isnt a lot... You cant get that with regular spend?

Prepay a month or two on any regular bills: cable, phone, insurance, internet, etc.

That and grocery store gift cards is usually what I do......I spend close to $300/month on groceries, so it's really not a problem.

claurianta2 Sep 6, 2015 9:22 am

So I got declined for the Capital One IHG today. I contacted them and said it was probably because I already have two cards with them (grandfathered Aspire Travel World and Delta World cards) and that that was the maximum number of their own cards they let anyone hold at any one time. Anyone heard this before or were they just making excuses?

zer0k1 Sep 6, 2015 10:34 am

Would TD offer an AF refund if you've received the welcome bonus? Take the TD AP Infinite Prestige 50k for example. Never noticed this card beofre, $400 for 50k isn't even bad

flyer05 Sep 6, 2015 4:27 pm

Not sure if this had been posted, but I found an offer for the TD Aeroplan with FYF extended until Oct 31, via Greedyrates.ca:

Shop.ca is irrelevant.

15x Aeroplan bonus promo and still can't find any value. Anyone disagree?

crimsona Sep 6, 2015 8:31 pm

Bought a cast iron skillet for 39 cents after BC taxes, -$50 TD aeroplan promo code and 3k Aeroplan miles.

We can reload Dr Brown's baby bottles and parts using my wife's card later

There is anyways a constant %20 rebate from GCR. This tells you all you need to know about shop.ca and their prices - they can afford to rebate you %20 on anything in their store.

I'm with the above posters with regard to the value of shop.ca. That same skillet (or better) probably sells at Amazon for under $20.

I'm looking at applying for the National Bank FYF offer - their website seems sparse on the details of how to redeem points. Is it cash back for travel only like with Amex rewards or is it cashback towards anything?

It's similar to Amex. NBC Rewards points can wipe out part or all of the travel purchases you made ($100 increments only, however), or there's an online shopping mall where you can get a gift card or a toaster. If you have financial products with NBC you can also contribute to your RRSP, pay your mortgage, etc. with points. So it's not cashback towards anything but it's not strictly travel either.

Yes, it is an actual policy. Also, I was told Capital One is finally canceling existing Skymiles credit cards. Accounts will no longer be active after next month. Annual fees charged before July can be refunded on a pro-rated basis, but make sure to call to ask, if it's not proactively done.

Well, the Delta card cancelling would have allowed me to add the IHG card - but it's now gone, so that's not happening.

On the downside, I was hoping to make a bit more use of the Delta card I got just before they cancelled it - at 2 miles per dollar, it's great value for some of the partner redemptions, so it's been my primary card for that reason. I'm guessing the lower Canadian dollar is making it a bad deal for whoever has the currency risk in the deal. Back to SPG for me.

I've removed the Capital One IHG card from the Wiki, now that it's gone

Glad I got it before it's gone

I'm now wondering for how long will we get to keep the card, will they do like the Delta Card and close the accounts in a few months, or will the card be good until expiration or anything.

Well, that sucks.

i applied for it last week and was approved. hopefully it's in the mail.

after this, I think capital one will be useless to me.

I wonder why all these cards are disappearing.
If cashback on all purchase can be 1.75%
10K spend is $175
$CAD175 gets in promotions roughly
- 20K IHG
- 27K Hilton
- 30K Club Carlson
One can probably get (much) more out of each chain system, and that is at our end user level.
What's wrong with Canadian Financial Institutions not throwing those cards at users but choosing to discontinue them? With their negotiating power they'd get much better return on hotel partner cards then on their cashback cards...

Rumour has it that CapOne is spending so much on their Costco deal that they want to focus solely on that partnership, along with their own cards.

ecentral Sep 9, 2015 3:50 pm

I was really bummed to get the Capital One letter in the mail saying that as of Oct 20th the card will no longer be useable. I think it will be Amex Gold for me now with no where near the earn rate I was getting with all my US travel on Delta.

Is this just for the Cap One Delta card - or did people get letters for IHG cards, as well?

I guess at the end of the day, the banks have to be making money from the card. In the case of IHG and Delta, I doubt they make anything because no one has those cards (I didn't know anyone who had one). Same with the Chase Marriott (don't know a single person who has it - or the Amazon card - despite no foreign txn fees) - and Chase has had the 'Apply Now' button removed from their website for ages.

To complicate matters, the nose-diving US Exchange rate is perhaps making it more expensive for Canadian banks to buy into/maintain hotel/US Air programs for their cards, again, which translates into them not making as much money.

It's been a tough year for churners. I always knew that I was riding a wave that would soon dwindle. But man, it's been a sweet ride!

crimsona Sep 9, 2015 5:04 pm

on the contrary, I feel many people had the Marriott card. it pays out way better than the Amazon for the sign-up bonus, and has two extensive threads on RFD and one here.

whereas the IHG and delta cards have barely any coverage.
