Please let us know how and when you rectify the error.

Are you saying you got your 100x bonus confirmed, and not just 100 points? Mind quoting the answer they gave you to your secure message? Or are you still waiting for a response?

I don't wanna spend all the money only to find out it's 100bonus per purchase and an error on the website... If it's 100 per dollar I'm all over this.

Basically pay 250 CAD for a round-trip anywhere in the US, 400 dollar to Europe? 1000 dollars for a round-trip to Europe in J? for sure.

I just bought $300 worth of Turbotax products. I hope it is not 100 bonus point but 100 per dollar spent! Can anyone confirm if they have received 100x /$?

I just got the reply from RBC...they say its an error....should be TOTAL 100 points only. However they gave me the points (100 per $1) for goodwill.......I had a small purchase anyways...(I didnt want a bigger amount as I already have tons of points...!!).......So may be they are honoring for smaller amounts.....But may be YMMV going forward as they say its an error.

I'm just wondering if i can do that with TD and the Aeroplan card. I did cancel it, though, so I'm thinking of doing this down the road. Get the Aeroplan card, downgrade to something else and then several months later ask to be upgraded back (presumably for best public offer).

Just trying to figure out that "something else" part...could it be any no fee TD card? I'm fine with that.

I like this strategy as it avoids credit pulls and keeps the average age of accounts up.

Has anyone done this with TD?

Yes!! I got transferred from CIBC last summer. Downgraded around August timeframe, upgraded in Jan and will downgrade sometime in the next month looking to upgrade again in Jan 2016

Another member got it confirmed that it's 100 per dollar... I assume we have a serious case for getting the points or at least a refund otherwise... Since it so clearly states it on the website...

I print screened the page stating it is 100 points/ $ spent in case they do not honor the points which I think chance is slim.

Since AMEX recently (in July) made their sign-up bonus once-in-a-lifetime, which cards are the most churnable for us Canadians?

i.e. What cards award sign up bonuses with no lifetime limit?

Best to post your question in the dedicated Amex Canada forum found here:

I appreciate the effort, but I am specifically asking about Non-AMEX cards.

OOPS.. I understood possibly other Amex cards such as Business ones that don't have the lifetime limit.

I have churned Chase Marriott Visa

ibopm Aug 31, 2015 5:47 pm

Thanks guys. Do you think we should add this to the Wiki? That way, we can see at a glance, which cards are worth re-applying for after cancellation.

If you think it's a good idea, I can do the edit.

grandgourmand Sep 1, 2015 7:16 am

Still considering the IHG Cap One card. But I'd like to know does anyone have any experience churning with Cap One? They are stricter on approvals...just wondering how they are on the "rinse and repeat".

Thanks. I'll do that next time...a much easier process than re-applying.

Interesting. I haven't tried downgrading on a first-year-free card. Should I downgrade to something like TD Green Visa (a card with, like, zero benefits), then a waiting period?

That is what I did. I downgraded to a cash back card. Waited 6 months then upgraded during a promo.

Smiley90 Sep 1, 2015 10:37 am

Do you transfer out your RBC Avion points before downgrading? Wont they turn into like, regular non-FFP-rewards points if you downgrade or not?

zer0k1 Sep 1, 2015 10:58 am

I recently switched from the Avion Infinite to the BA card 30k. If I switch back to the infinite could I expect to get the 15k again? And if I then upgrade to the Infinite Privilege will I get the 25k added to my 15k? Then switch back to BA and get 15k/30k again?

I heard that. But since I'm going back to an Avion card, having done nothing with my points when I was a no annual fee customer, I should be good to go. If not I'll be really p1ssed because all of my points have been earned while it I had the Avion card.

I think all of that is possible. it's only one phone call away. I don't think they care if you're trying to maximize sign-up bonuses. I'd wait 3 months in between attempts...at least that's what worked for me. And I don't think you should expect First Year Free, certainly not for the BA or the Privilege cards. But hey, if you look at the fee as paying for points that otherwise cost more...then you should be ok with that.

zer0k1 Sep 1, 2015 11:24 am

New TD Aeroplan offer: 25k after $1k spend. $60 annual fee for the first year (50% off). $50 statement credit + 3,000 AP miles after 1 purchase at shop.ca (no minimum).

With the GCR $50 cashback it is effectively $10 for 28k AP miles and a $50 Shop.ca GC

Clever how they got potentially a big sign up increase of AF paying customers simply due to a rumor they would dash the card. Where did the rumor originate from? :D

Sorry for having a hard time believing, anyone knows who's the insider here on the forums that launched this idea?

winebug Sep 1, 2015 7:32 pm

wiki needs updating with new TD, also aerogold business extended to October 31st. Any other card offers changing or starting this September 1st?

I'm definitely not an insider, but I might be the one who brought the rumour to the forum (see post #2195 in this thread) - I called Cap One in late July about my Delta Skymiles card - whether it would be discontinued for existing cardholders or not. The CSA said that existing cardholders could hold on to and use the card but no new cards would be issued. He then told me that they were planning to do the same with the IHG card, and focus on their co-branding relationship with Costco. That last bit came as a surprise to me since I hadn't seen it anywhere else, so I decided to share the tidbit. Whether it's true or the CSA was making stuff up, I don't know.

Thanks for sharing!
Could any of the bloggers / press on the thread request C1 for a statement regarding their cards strategy?

I tried applying over the phone and the CSA couldn't see the offer on his system (only the Aventura offer). told me I had to go into the branch.

HUCA? the comment in the wiki said it was easiest by phone.

This still seems like a logical move to me...although I hope not because I plan to cancel my Cap One IHG MC to churn it next year. The bonus on my current card turned out to be SUPER lucrative this summer - cashed in on an award with Staybridge Suites and LOVED it! :)

That Shop.ca promo code (TD) for TD Aeroplan Visa works for existing customers too

$50 off (after tax) and 3k Aeroplan miles.

Awesome, and here I thought this card was totally useless after signup bonus!

edit: something to keep in mind from the T&C:

Purchase of gift cards, video games and video accessories, and alcohol are excluded

I already signed up for the 15 + 10 offer. Where do I find this promo code for the $50 off shop.ca and additional miles? Do I need to call TD?

Edit: never mind, there is an FAQ about this on shop.ca

http://www.shop.ca//infoView?storeId...atalogId=10301

what a great deal!

Hyacinthe Sep 3, 2015 6:53 am

I'd be quite surprised if Capital One discontinued the IHG cards. They just have sent new cards (mid-august) with the new IHG branding.

zer0k1 Sep 3, 2015 7:34 am

So just to confirm, it seems I can buy anything BELOW $50 from shop.ca and I will be credited back the $50 and get 3k ap miles?

crimsona Sep 3, 2015 7:53 am

No. If you try checking out under fifty bucks, the site will attempt to charge your card 100k (not a typo).

May trigger fraud alert at that point
