Last Nov/Dec when Sobey's was with Aeroplan you could get bonus Aeroplan miles for buying a Sobey's GC. It was a few thousand miles too. While I found out about the promo too late ( I bought 3 $100 cards on the last day of the promo) I believe you could buy a Sobey's GC with a Sobey's GC. Not sure if anyone tried it but it would have been something neat to try simply hanging around Sobey's all day turning over the same $100.

Starting November 1st, ICBC will NO LONGER be accepting credit card to pre-pay car insurance. Goodbye easy monthly points :(

I just prepaid for a year with card... For the last time :(

I'm not sure if this is true?
I know someone who renewed their insurance yesterday (Nov 2) and was able to pay by MC.
No where can I find any news / press release on ICBC's website about this either.

I was autoplan and they told me in person that it's company policy starting Nov 1st. There might be individual counters that don't follow this (yet) but that's what I was told.

I'll call in to ask for more. just one week's difference..maybe they'll be flexible. At least there's some more incentive now for my wife to get the card.

Do CIBC biz cards require prove of business/tax forms and the like? I heard TD cards require them and it's quite a bit of hassle.

I've never been asked.

A few years back I reapplied for my biz card when my CIBC card got sold to TD. It took 2 months to get the card and they needed proof of income. It seems things have gotten easier. :D

I'm quite surprised they extended it given the churn bait this card is. Maybe we are just a really small part of all card applications? Aeropesos are not free after all.

You will receive a welcome bonus of: (a) 20,000 Aventura Points for the CIBC Aventura Visa Card for Business, or (b) 20,000 Aeroplan Miles for the CIBC Aerogold Visa Card for Business, when you make your first purchase at any time with your card. Plus, you will receive an additional bonus of (a) 5,000 Aventura Points for the CIBC Aventura Visa Card for Business, or (b) 5,000 Aeroplan Miles for the CIBC Aerogold Visa Card for Business when you make your first purchase within your first 6 statement periods, beginning with your first monthly statement.
...Soo my guess is this is just an excuse for them to wait the full 6-7 months to give you the remaining 5,000 points?

yerffej201 Nov 3, 2015 12:25 pm

Should have waited to apply for the CIBC too... urgh.

mikeycanuk Nov 3, 2015 1:27 pm

I have 2 CIBC biz cards at the moment, my 3rd app is pending. I should have cancelled the 1st before I went for #3. My wife cancelled her first, next week got another.

I'm going to tell her to go for a 3rd.

You have 2 of the same cards? Any issues in getting your 2nd one?

DealAddict Nov 3, 2015 4:12 pm

I hope I didn't overdo it... applied for a second card, and it's pending. Called in, and they said 3-5 business days. They may have to split the limit between the 2 cards... I have been approved for a couple of other cards in the past week... Anyways, at least going to wait 3 months before the next application, whether i get declined or not

MBNA is still very churn-friendly, and people are still able to get more than one Alaska CC at a time it seems.

bmabnorth Nov 3, 2015 11:22 pm

The Terms and Conditions appear to prohibit blatantly churning of the Aerogold business. But I suppose worst comes to worst they just decline you for attempted manipulation to gain an extra 25k aeroplan. Might not hurt going for a second one just by the deadline.

I feel bad because I put a total of $5 on the Aerogold business visa although I do use the personal version of the card.

Yet people have reported cancelling and getting a new card and the bonus again or holding 2 at the same time?

Will CIBC mail the card to your address? I applied once last year, and they wouldn't mail it to me, but wanted me to come in and pick up the card in branch. I know it's for security reasons, because I don't have an account with them. But I'm wondering if any of you who have gotten this card have been able to have it actually mailed to you, without having any relationship with CIBC other than getting this card. Thanks.

Preacher7,

FWIW, based on my scattered experience, I don't think there's a definite answer for this.

Myself, I also don't bank with CIBC, other than their credit cards (no bank accounts/investments). However, I've held two long-time pre-churn-days CIBC no-fee cards, from since early-2000's and they were both delivered to my home. However, when I applied for my first-ever AeroInfinite card, I was requested to go in-branch to pick it up. When I asked a phone rep why this was required, he said it was because I don't have enough history with them, that it was a higher/premium card than my previous ones, and they wanted a face-to-face for a pick-up. I didn't buy that answer, but complied.

I went through several card iterations for the same /similar cards (shhh!) since then, and they were all sent to my home...until earlier this year, when once again I was asked to go in-branch to pickup a new card. Again, I asked a rep why, since I have had (insert undisclosed number here) CIBC cards within the past 2 years all delivered to my home. Rep just gave me a figurative I-dunno-shrug, and I gave one back to him. Went to the branch, lined up to see a teller, grabbed some candy, picked up the card. After that, my next iteration of cards were delivered to my home.

My personal experiences aside, I have noticed several posters remark that an in-branch pick-up is required if you're a new CIBC client...but then you'll all see a similar number of people (new clients) saying their cards were mailed to them.

That's the info I'm aware of, from my little world, so it's not worth much! :D

JJJ, who sometimes misspells his streetname. ;)

mikeycanuk Nov 4, 2015 8:22 am

Never with CIBC, but had cards with them for 10+ years.

RBC last month I had to pickup in branch my new Avios card.

bmabnorth Nov 4, 2015 11:48 am

CIBC mailed to me. Also approved my business visa without me having to call.

TD did make me go to the branch though. Their online application system is terrible.

Alright, I will have no mercy on CIBC and apply for a second then, you have me convinced ...

Need more aeroplan anyway due to the devaluation.

RBC made me pick up my first card with them, I think because I don't bank with them. They've mailed me the 3 CC downgrades/upgrades since then.

I don't have any other CCs with any other brick and mortar banks - other than the only two I already bank with (BMO and CIBC) so I don't know what their policy is. Honestly, I'm reluctant to welcome any more of these major banks into my fold...I'm happier to stick with MBNA, Amex, Cap One and Chase...

Did you guys see this? The CIBC Tim's Card (i know lol) now offers free coffee every day for a year as a signup bonus:

http://www.doubledoublecard.com/offers/

If you drink Tim's each day this might actually make the card relevant! lol

This card is a PITA. It always malfunctions - not reliable in the slightest. I'm ditching it soon....

How much is a CIBC Chequing Account?

Open a CIBC Unlimited® Chequing Account or CIBC PremierService® Account by February 29, 2016.
I use PC Financial and pay zero. I also don't drink timmies.

It's free, except for the part where you have to pay $14/month to keep a bank account active. And, of course, you'll need to pay that for at least 12 months.

Do CIBC accounts not have a "free with x balance" rule?

Amazingly, no. Neither does RBC......and they wondered why I didn't want to switch from TDCT. I get tremendous value from my all-inclusive account, and great service too. Yes, I'm a big fan (no, I don't work there).

I'd have to disagree. My CIBC account has no fee's with a $1,500 balance. It was $1,000 but they increased it 4-5 years ago. The fees are charged and credited back the same day.

Thanks for the info. When I was account shopping about a year ago, I didn't find anything like that - do you have to be a student or senior or something? Are you limited to 10 transactions a month or something small?

(I've been with TDCT for decades, but every couple of years I shop around to see if I can find anything worth switching too, to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck.)

Cerenity Nov 11, 2015 7:30 am

i think only the lowest CIBC plan has a balance based fee waiver

RBC as far as i know has none at all, but they do have multi-product discounts which can effectively be a fee waiver of some sort. How much benefit you get out of it depends on the person and banking needs.

TD, BMO, Scotia all have balance based fee waivers for most, if not all of their standard accounts. For us BMO works the best, since they only require one lead account to meet the min balance, versus TD which evaluates every single account individually for the minimum balance.

I was at Esso earlier today and asked the cashier about (but did not try) purchasing the PayPower reload cards. She said I could use a credit card for the purchase. From her reply, it seemed to me that not many people purchase the PayPower card or Reload cards at the Esso.

I think I've seen it in my emails, but didn't look 'attractive', with a cost to add additional users.

Was your offer for free authorized users? How many bonus points?

Or was it a marketing ploy? As in, "Add more authorized users and watch your points grow!" :-/

Didn't have time to call and put myself on hold for 20 min yet. Also not sure if I want to give someone a supplemental card (worse comes to worse I can just keep it for myself). E-mail didn't specify any costs or what kind of reward would be offered. Could be a spam like you say so didn't want to waste my time calling in.

Amex is offering me a 1k MR for supplementary card but their link is broken. Maybe I'll call and find out over the weekend what the situation is for both.

crimsona Nov 11, 2015 10:02 pm

Authorized user on the TD card is fifty bucks each.

Fee is waived with all inclusive for the first one though. Free 5k if attached to all inclusive, 1 cent per mile if not. Either way you'll get another card number to use I shop.ca for their overpriced inventory though.
