After hanging out in the premium deal forum more, I honestly can't value a Europe trip at more than 2k USD and an Asian business class trip at more than 3.5k USD.
Occasional fare sales with limited availability isn't all that different from award tickets with limited availability, except one is limited time frame and the other is limited seats The BA deal the last two days for 1200 USD after aarp or 500 after spending an extra 30k Avios really devalue award tickets |

I second this. I've booked two CX YVR-JFK flights (one in Y and one in W) and when doing searches in prep/research for these flights, I always seemed to find space easily 3-6 months out, even during busy times. Although, it seems like only W has been coming up lately for availability, which is weird, but maybe it's just my dates...
Y in BA and AM is the same 60k. But redeeming CX PEY, it's something like 90k Avios instead of the 72k Asia Miles. |

CapitalOne's redemption system is very easy. Every point is worth 1 cent (so the return is 2 cents on the dollar), and you can claim it against pretty much any travel purchase you make with the card, anywhere. The way it works is you buy your travel first, and as soon as it posts on your card, you can redeem points against that purchase to reduce the amount of the purchase. There are no minimums and you can make partial redemptions.

A combination of cards is a good choice. TD First Class Visa Infinite gives 4.5% CB on hotels AND flights. Downside is having to deal with Expedia CS and book through the Expedia portal, but I do that with >100 flights per year and it's been worth it for the savings. Good insurance coverage as well.
And then an Amex of your choosing. Either Plat for it's many associated perks, or the SPG for earning. The numbers only you can crunch. I miss my Platinum card but I can't swallow the $699/year. :( I know the $200 credit is awesome and the Priority Pass is worth it, but it's just too much money right now.

Why dismiss Aeroplan so quickly? Sure it's far from perfect but it's easy to rack up a few hundred thousand miles with card churns. I've got some redemptions that are 8-10c a mile for J and F. You can also rack up MR miles even easier and instant transfer to AP if needed. I think using MR against travel is like a measly 1%?
I used the Aspire card when I needed to divert spend from AP cards, it's good at 2%. |

Same here, I have a LOT of MR thanks to the BizGold 55,000 per card. I have to admit they will probably end up at AP at some point. Avios isn't great for the long hauls we are doing lately. But plans might change.

I just applied for the MasterCard from Rogers Bank. Gives 1.75% cash back that you can apply towards your Rogers or Fido bill. So since it's more of a pure cash-back than a travel bonus (assuming your Rogers bill is high enough), it may not be applicable to discuss in the "milesbuzz" forum, BUT it is the only Canadian card that I know of other than the Chase cards that has no foreign transaction fees. (And with the possible eventual demise of the Chase cards, I figured it was a good card to get for non-Canadian spend -- not to mention that the 1.75% return does beat the return on the Marriott and Amazon cards for most spends).

Thanks for posting it here as I had no idea there is another issuer with no FX in Canada.
I prefer the Marriott card because it gives 2 points per dollar on many categories, and my redemptions routinely exceed 1cpm. |

Be careful because although it's no FX, it's slightly worse because all foreign currencies other than USD are converted to USD first, THEN to CAD. You take a double hit on the Mastercard spreads, even if they don't put a 2.5% FX commission.

http://blog.rewardscanada.ca/ Mentions only the Sears card was bought by Scotia from Chase.
We are safe. For now. How on earth is Sears still in business??? I've been expecting for years to hear a news blurb that states "Today Sear's Canada files for bankruptcy citing tough market conditions etc etc" I'm still waiting. |

I've thought the same thing, but they still seem to be hanging on. Maybe it was the death of Target that gave them a second wind. |
from last week I find out can't search for FHR hotel ? used to log in http://www.americanexpress.ca/travel with platinum user name/pwd, FHR hotel will show up in first page with benefits, but not anymore, even I go to last page with the highest price it won't show up anything

Got a standard email from Marriott today for 30K points upon approval of the Marriotts card. They don't seem to realise the points coming in every month from Chase are for this card, nor that there is 50K out there for signing up.

Aeroplan estore is offereing 5x the points for every store until Oct 26. It always seems to come around this time of year from what I remember, but is 5x offered any other times of the year? or even more than 5x?
|

I got my iPad lightening to photo reader today, but I don't need anything else. Last year got a new iPad with 7X!! |

I have a TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite - I remember seeing the $250 hotel credit but not sure if I got it through the specific referral link I used. Is there anyway to check online or should I have received some e-mail? (which I did not - so maybe I don't get it?) Or do I have to call TD.

Free 250 Aeroplan Miles
Perhaps this is targeted to specific Aeroplan accounts but you might want to check your e-mails. You can get 250 free miles for filling out your goals. No idea when the miles post but it takes about 30-60 seconds so fairly easy.

anyone have an online application for this BMO promo?
http://www.tgwhf.ca/sites/grandcru/ link on the right: http://www.tgwhf.ca/sites/grandcru/m...Supporters.pdf I guess BMO did learn their lesson last year and make you need to apply it in person during the event. :( |

While not for everyone, I bought some gift cards of eBay.ca, ended up paying $.0018 per mile. Mostly gas and restaurant cards.
Gap and Bay I'll get 7x anyway during the whole Black Friday madness without paying anything! |

An update: I chose the SPG Amex to be my main card and demoting my Scotia Momentum Infinite to a SCENE cars as a secondary card.
I chose SPG because I love the starwood portfolio and I believe the points are more valuable as I find flight deals easier to find than hotel deals. I could've went back to the AMEX Gold but I thought I'd try as different product. Thoughts? |

I could've went back to the AMEX Gold but I thought I'd try as different product. Thoughts? I find the opposite, for the most part, on flight vs. hotel deals. I convert my SPG points to airlines (like AA, SQ) for some good J or F redemptions. And then I get my hotels at pretty deals on hotels.com or whatever. If, however, you are looking at economy flights (might as well pay cash rather than points) and travel during peak periods (where hotel $$$ goes up, but points stay roughly the same) then I agree. I put all the spending I can on my SPG card. That way I have the option to do both (flight or hotel). So far, it's been flight. |
Here is a link for the TD Aeroplan Infinite 25k FYF offer:

For those with an Aeroplan account, use gas (Petro Canada) and have an eBay account this is a steal:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/190-for-4-50-...kAAOSw54xUU9rG $190 for $200 in PC gift cards with a 5c off 500L of gas ($25 value) and no shipping charges! The kicker is the 5X estore promo. Depending on your distinction level is another 2X/3X the base miles. |
That seems like the only good deal on gift cards. Had trouble finding anything, thanks!

How does Ebay know that the Aeroplan miles are to credit your Aeroplan account? It didn't ask me to enter an Aeroplan number.
https://www4.aeroplan.com/estore/ |
Go to https://www4.aeroplan.com/estore/
Login and click eBay buy the $200 GC Earn 5 x 200 = 1000 AP miles ($10-$20 value?) not sure if it's worth it...I suppose better than nothing |
It's $190 for $200 in GC (so 5% off), a free $25 price privilege card (5 cents off for 500 L), and 7x (so total 1330) Aeroplan miles for dDiamond members (and 6x for dBlack)

The 5c card helps cover the co$t of Ultra94 :)
