You can transfer AMEX to SPG. From SPG, either convert it straight to AS or through Marriott Travel Package if you have enough points.

Are the Cobalt & Gold rewards cards the only ones with sign up points from amex right now that transfer to SPG? And they are 2:1 correct?

Hey all - long time lurker, first time poster
Has anyone recently applied for the 20k SPG signup bonus for the SPG Amex intended for previous marriot visa holders (however it is publicly available) Cant post the link yet but if you google "HURRY – Last Chance to get the Starwood American Express Credit Card!" you'll see it on the Canadian kilometers blog, which sends you to amex official website with the offer still there. I've never had an SPG Amex before (didn't have the marriot visa either) and i'd like to apply if I would be able to actually get the 20k points. The statement credit isn't worth it, and I already have Amex Cobalt and Biz Plat, so I'd only want this for the 20k SPG. |

Update – This Offer is no longer available. View the current offer here The link takes me to Amex's website, with the new offer. |
Why doesn't YYZ get any "love"?
After reading that YVR is getting a Lufthansa A350 flight I wondered why Toronto never gets the good planes/first class/good airlines. Consider:
Cathay only does business class (YVR gets first via New York flights) Korean doesn't provide their Kosmo suites in first Lufthansa doesn't offer first class There are no A350s to/from YYZ (although Philippine Airlines indicates it will in 2018) It doesn't get ANA, JAL, Singapore, Swiss (not enough demand? AC monopoly?) Perhaps it's a simple explanation. |

OK, the CX F is nice out of YVR but that's about it. Another thing that's ridiculous about YVR is that FRA is farther than TYO but AE charges a lot more for redemptions to TYO. |

The first year free had been in place earlier; now the annual fee of $120 is stated. I've been able to get First Year fee waived by applying at a TD bank branch and waving a competitive (RBC or CIBC) card; your mileage may vary. I got $250 value from the signup points on a recent flight booking. |
Yesterday I clicked on the footnote reference 21 and there was info on the first year free rebate. Not sure if it is there now |
Yes, it's there. I hope the FYF still kicks in.
21 The full Annual Fee rebate offer is for the Primary Cardholder, for the first year, for new TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card Accounts (“Account”) only. The full Annual Fee will be reversed within 2 monthly statements from the date of the charge. Annual Fee for any Authorized User Cards added to the Account continues to apply. Full Annual Fee will be charged to the Account after the first year. Existing TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Cardholders are not eligible for this offer. Offer may be changed, withdrawn or extended at any time and cannot be combined with any other offer unless otherwise indicated. This offer is not transferable. |
Is the Wiki on the National Bank still accurate?
National Bank MasterCard $150 AF, 30,000 points https://www.nbc.ca/en/personal/credi...rld-elite.html from what I see I don't see any 30,000 point sign up bonus. On a side note, I had the card that was advertised as 30,000 points (20 the first year and 10 the second) and the 10 never posted. Then they changed the 10k=100 to 11k=100 so I ended up paying $150 and only getting 20 points. |
BA Transfer Promo
Just got notified by my statement in the mail that the HSBC Canada is also running a convert promo to BA Avios, a 35% bonus. Along with the RBC Avion to BA 30% bonus promo, it is those time to beef up your BA Avios balance :)

Each point worth half cent. 30k is 150
|
From what I read on Jeff's blog, basically you earn 6 points per dollar on the first 50k of eligible travel expenses, which seems to include foreign transactions. All other expenses and travel expenses exceeding 50k earn 3 points per dollar. As noted above, each point is worth half a cent (ie 30k = $150). However, I think the best use of points is to transfer it to their airline partners. more info here.

The non premier world doesn't seem to have airline transfer options. Only the Premier one does

Applied for it through GCR. Wasn't approved instantly... we'll see what happens.

When we churned these Alaska cards last year, none of us got the rebate from GCR. They said we’d gotten the rebate before, and we can’t get another rebate on the same card. Have any of you gotten repeat rebates on this card recently? |

the app through GCR is directing me to the 25K offer for the alaska card, not the 30K offer
is anyone else able to redirect to the 30K offer through GCR? |

Yes. Got it last year. Having the card previously doesn't preclude you from getting the rebate again, as I don't recall anything like that in the T&C and that would be pretty abnormal as Alaska pays them for every approved application - bonus or not. You should double check the T&C, appeal, and let us know how it goes. |

baredemptionfinder.com is a useful resource for finding flights. |
I've heard that MBNA will just reopen the old account if I apply for a new card within 3 months of closing the old one, but what would happen if I did a product change to the MBNA Rewards Mastercard (effectively leaving that account open), and then applied for a new Alaska card soon after? Any data points on this? Thanks.
|
Anybody has succes on getting approved for a second MBNA Alaska card? I already have one and plan to keep it till November .
On side note from Septemeber 01 the MBNA alaska card annual fee goes from 75 to 99 CAD, however now you get a complimentery checked bag. |
