Following on from the original signup bonus, I just received an e-mail - "... Personalize your profile and get 10 Bonus Air Miles"

E-mail was in my junk, glad I caught it. I'll report back if I get the 10.

Only YOU can decide, and I do recommend AMEX still, especially for Aeroplan build-up. So far repeat welcome bonus is still given AFAIK

If you don't want to sign up again for the Amex Personal Plat MR (60K/$699) then the Biz Plat is running at 75K/$399 after $5K spending.

For wife, 15K from the CIBC Aeroplan Infinite card, but to get FYF you need to go in branch, or call for a rep, however no guarantees on the FYF, will help if you're a CIBC client. Else get FYF for this card at a CIBC kiosk agent at YYZ T1 airside. This will require the first statement to cycle before she gets the points, but no minimum spending required.

For the BMO AIR MILES World Elite: https://www.bmo.com/main/personal/cr...te-mastercard/

How do we get the lounge passes and priority pass membership? I received the card recently and didn't see anything in the welcome package about it. I did throw it out quickly though so maybe I missed it? Any way I can still get it?

At the back of one of the booklets that came with the welcome package there is a code that you use when calling up Priority Pass, to activate your membership with the 4 free credits for lounge access. That's how it worked the last time I got this promo. If you've tossed it, and I'm sure many people do, you'll need BMO to re-issue a new code for you. Not sure how convoluted that exercise will be.

Also, It is only valid for a year from the time you activate your card.

Heh, thanks Chris.

Also, the PP membership doesn't have to be enrolled in the name of the cardholder. Useful to gift it to someone if you're traveling in F/J and won't need this benefit. :D

Thanks gents. I called in to BMO and they gave me the invitation code which I used to join PP.

PP membership from BMO

I have BMO World Elite MC right now that come with 4 PP passes per year. I am planning to apply for the BMO Air Miles World Elite MC that also come with 2 PP passes. So, do I just apply for another PP membership with its own membership number? will PP even let you do that? Anyone has experience that can share? Thanks.

I was wondering if the Marriot Visa is dead? It appears the 50k referal link is not working and trying the normal 30k links are not working also.

Hm.

Rocketmiles promo has returned.

Rocketmiles is a third party hotel booking site. Instead of trying to provide discounted hotel rates, they provide hotels at normal rates but increased alrline miles.
Current promo is 4,000 Aeroplan bonus miles on your first booking.

So if you're booking a simple 1-night hotel stay, you can earn 4,000 Aeroplan miles quite easily. Check the rates against other sources; you can probably get a better rate elsewhere. But, hey, 4000 miles!

Here's a link from Aeroplan's website.
Promo code is aeroplanbonus

Credit to rewards canada blog for pointing this one out.

Oddly, the Aeroplan website currently says this:
This specific promotion has ended.

If you applied before September 5, 2017 and your application is still pending, your application will still be considered for approval.

Isn't rocketmiles almost never worth it to use, since they also mark up the hotels over source to pay for the few miles they award?

You should be fine, obviously it's YMMV but I've gotten 100% of my AMEX bonuses since churning in 2012

It's definitely a new game with Amex these days. More and more people reporting of not getting instant approval, applications being pulled aside for further review, and many churners reporting that the back-office deemed that they were reapplying too soon. So, YMMV is even more bigger font than ever since I started churning. Applying for Amex cards used to be so easy and smooth, like a hot knife through butter. Looks like Amex is starting to turn the fridge temperature lower. :D

Here's one recent post about the new-age Amex, in the 2017 thread:

Originally Posted by agjil (Post 28638711)

When this happens one can call the new application department to follow up with the application, and usually AmEx will ask a few questions and then approve the application if there's nothing wrong with your credit.
However, this time when they called in to inquire about their applications status, all of them were told their applications were being reviewed by an "executive team", and the new application department phone reps cannot approve their application before the executive team finishes the review, so they need to wait a few days for a decision to be made by the executive team.
(IIRC the new application department reps used to be able to approve applications themselves.)
So they waited a few days and received phone calls from AmEx and were told their applications could be approved if they wanted but they would not be getting the welcome bonus.

I wonder why they bolded this on the fine print.

This offer is subject to your income declaration of a minimum annual personal income of $60,000 or minimum annual household income of $100,000.

• If you redeem your reward through Expedia® For TD, 50000 points is worth $250.
• If you redeem for other travel, 50000 points is worth $200.

I'll probably apply for the card and use it for general travel credit. To me, trying to redeem through Expedia isn't worth the extra 50 bucks.

†Offer is available from 1 September 2017 to 31 October 2017. To receive the 15,000 Asia Miles welcome bonus, your application must be approved by Royal Bank of Canada. The bonus 15,000 Asia Miles will be credited to your Asia Miles account within 8 weeks after meeting the spending requirement. Thanks. One pretty well needs to keep the card longer than a year to make use if it and then annual fees kick-in. Redeeming for anything else than travel, the value collapses, like gift cards are about $125 for 50000.

I had two for awhile. Only problem I had is when I accidentally used the card which charged per visit instead of the free visit one. When I saw it on my credit card bill I called in and it was reversed.

Not sure what you mean.
My plan would be:
• get card
• make minimum spend to earn the 50,000 points
• wait a few months for points to appear
• buy something, at any merchant that counts as "travel", for $200+.
• cash in the points
• cancel card between the 6-month and 11-month point.

Did you see something that would drag the process out longer?
Is the definition of "travel" really restrictive?

This RBC Avion 25,000 point offer was mentioned on another thread:
https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/service...ofr2-f-or.html

This offer is 25,000 Avion points. I don't see that the $120 annual fee is waived.

If you walk into an RBC branch and display a competitor's card, and say you want to switch, you should be able to get 15,000 Avion points, with $0 annual fee.

So the comparison is 25,000 ($120) versus 15,000 ($0).
Yes, it does require the time you spend at the branch to do it, though.

Also, the tiers with the RBC Avion program are:
15,000 Short-haul: Canada/United States Within or to an adjacent Province/Territory/U.S. State $350
35,000 Long-haul: Canada/United States Anywhere in Canada/U.S except Hawaii and Alaska $750
etc.

The in-branch offer gets you 15,000 points, which is right at one of the thresholds. My plan is to get my 15,000 Avion points, book a short haul flight (value $350), and call it a day with that card.

If you start with 25,000 Avion points, though, then you need to spend $10,000 more, to earn another 10,000 Avion points, to be able to use all your points.

So, if you're looking for a flight that's gonna be worth close to $750, then that might be the better option.

The "competitor Visa Infinite" offer is available over the phone as well. So you can apply online for the 25,000 points, then call in and ask them to waive the fee because you hold another Visa Infinite product.

Just tested this myself and it works. ^ The $120 had already posted to my account and the rep was more than happy to reverse it. Didn't even ask for proof or anything.

Or you could just transfer to BA Avios and use the 25,000 on AS for most long-haul flights. And from what I recall seeing, there's been fairly regular transfer bonuses (30% normally?) so you could even book a longer distance flight on AS. Hope there's one again this fall!

RBC fought me on this, hard. had to call twice and the second rep kept putting me on hold with the excuse of "let me check with my supervisor". He tried to negotiate a reduced FYF, i refused and went on hold for another 10 mins. He eventually agreed to full refund of $120

Yeah. It should also be noted that my FYF was granted "as a one-time exception" even though it's well-advertised that RBC are having this promotion. All's well that ends well, I suppose.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here but HSBC has a new Premier World Elite card for Premier customers. There's no forex spread and you're getting 1.2 Avios per $1 on non travel spend and 2.4 Avios per $1 on travel spend. They also transfer to Krisflyer at 1.08/$1 and Asiamiles at 0.96/$1 on non travel spend and double that on travel. IMO this beats out the RBC offering for Avios and almost beats the Asiamiles card. Only thing is you need to be an HSBC Premier customer.

I went ahead and applied for this, but won't know the outcome for a few days. I applied using the link for the 25K, but it directed me to log into my my RBC account if I had one (I do, since I currently hold the Westjet MC).

If I do get the card, I'm concerned I won't get the 25K bonus, since there's nothing on their website about it - looks like a targeted offer to NEW RBC customers - not just to new Avion/RBC Rewards Cardholders. Anyone know for sure?
