Yes, the $9k is insane. But it can work for some people, especially if you can time it around some big expenses (insurance premiums, home project, etc.)

I've done it once for the 50k. But the card was also very useful for me to save 10% on BA flights. If you're travelling with your family, for example, that can add up to a pretty big saving. And, incidentally, paying for that trip on the BA card gets you get 2x BA points on BA ticket purchases and that kind of trip will get you going on the $9k spend.

Not for everyone, but the card worked for me in the past and I'll likely get it again.

You can use the discount code even without owning the card, so... :P

Join Marriott Rewards
Get 1000 Aeroplan miles

Many savvy readers of this forum have a Marriott Rewards account, I'm sure.
But if you don't, this is an easy way to get 1000 Aeroplan miles. Also good for friends & family.

https://www.joinmarriottrewards.com/doublemiles2017/

Nothing stopping a second Marriott, I'm guessing ;) - Aeroplan points expiring soon, got to keep the account active

Do you know anyone that has successfully done so? I've priced it out just using the code...but not sure if it goes through on checkout.

Only if you want to risk losing both accounts and all accumulated points. This is the very first item in the program's T&C.

How would they find out that I have duplicate accounts?

If the name and address match your Aeroplan account (which they'd have to for the bonus to post), it's not hard.

Useful new feature on the CIBC mobile banking app.....instant free credit score!

I just went to the link for the Marriott Rewards sign-up, but saw nothing about the 1000 Aeroplan bonus miles. Is it still being offered?

Just tried it! Works well, its just imported from Borrowell but it saves the step of signing up for their website and getting their loan offers. (too bad I signed up already).

Not looking forward to the dip from signing up BMO World Elite/Chequing/Savings account offer yesterday though, but its worthwhile for those Priority Pass Lounge passes (the lounge at YEG is actually not too bad) and the travel credit

You're right that the page has changed content.
The promo was to last until December 31, 2017, reported one blog earlier.

I dunno if this is a temporary bug, or if they've done something else.

without have enough airmiles in account, how to check YVR-IAH how many miles required in Christmas time? I checked airmiles.ca only say start from 2600 miles, is there any other way to check?

GCR had remove TD Aeroplan VISA cards.

the link:

I think it is similar to Aeroplan's Classic and Market Fare.

What it shows as the "starting from" in their mile chart is the standard AM ticket, and as availability dwindles or prices for certain flights go up, the miles required when you search the flights may differ. I don't think there's any way to check that without explicitly searching for the date / flights you want.

I can't do a proper cut and paste due to lack of skills on the iPad but here is what I got for Sunday 24 December to Saturday 6 January. (The first and last days of holiday - Saturday to Sunday - were booked up).

Delta flights are absurd at 7,724 Air Miles. But American Airlines has six options at 2,600 Air Miles and $139.91 taxes.

It may be better availability with two one ways. If you give me your ideal dates I can look it up for you.

There is no availability round trip for those dates. On anything.

One way YVR-IAH on AC is 3,261 plus $121.23 but nothing direct and it leaves at 0615 hours. Later flights for 3,770. But again that's just one way.

And ugh... 4,312 for your return plus $52.14 on AC. Nothing direct.

No other carriers come up on the one ways for those dates.

If you depart one day early and return one day later you could get 6,706 plus $189.14 round trip. But again there is a stopover each way.

Hi team!

What's the 'it' card that has airport lounge access? Is still the AMEX Platinum?

Has anyone tried the other options like BMO World Elite MC? Won't be using it as much nowadays (maybe 2-3 visits annually?)

yes, Amex Plat is the only card with "unlimited" free PP. There's a couple cards that give a 3-10 free visits a year (Scotiabank, BMO and Amex Airmiles I believe?) so those might be worth looking at for you too if you're not planning to travel much.

for RBC Avion, it's 100K points for MAX 2K tickets, so Can you buy it online for Canada-Asia Business tickets that's say worth 2.2k+$300 fees, and pay $500 out of pocket?

Fairly sure premium economy was the highest you were allowed to book, no?

check here looks like can redeem for business, but I'm not sure for a total 2.6K tickets. can I redeem 100k points+$600, or I need have 160K (100K+60K at 0.01 each) points for the redeem https://www.rbcrewards.com/#!/faq#accordionMain-travel

So, moving from great points offers to crummy points offers...
Is this the worst earning rate ever?
Am I reading this correctly?

I just received an e-mail from Best Western, advertising that their 60'000 signup promo is back! Awesome. I think their last "big" signup promo was 80k )or was it 60 as well? I dont trcall)but 60k for a no-fee card is great either way. Not sure if personalized but here's the details:

" • Get 20,000 bonus points†† after your first eligible purchase--that's already enough points for at least ONE FREE NIGHT**
• Spend $1,000 or more within the first 90 days of account opening and get an additional 20,000 bonus points†† OR
• Spend $2,000 or more within the first 90 days of account opening and get a total of 60,000 bonus points†"

T&C's say nothing preventin repeat signups, here's the link:

^^^

Here's a rewards chart:
https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/re...em-awards.html

60,000 BW points will get you:

3-4 room nights, or
US $250 in BW gift cards, or
around US $200 in gift cards (not all merchants available from Canada) or
(not as optimal...) 12000 Aeroplan points, or around C $200 in gift cards for Canadian retailers.

So definitely find a way to generate $2000 in spend.

yes, sorry, didn't think to include it because I figured the link would say it. But here it is:

"But hurry--this offer expires on August 31, 2017. Thank you for being a member of Best Western Rewards and we look forward to welcoming you again at one of our hotels very soon! "

I don't know if I should try and sign up again right before the promo expires?

Yes you can. I did that last year.

The question for me now is whether I can get a 3rd BW Rewards card whilst holding 2. ;)

Flyer, maybe better to say it was possible in the past, but maybe not as easy any more. See the datapoints in this and the MBNA Alaska Airlines MC thread. MBNA had once been one of the most easiest to do multiple concurrent churns, but in the past year they have been much more 'iffy'.

I had 3 Alaska cards at one time in the past, and the most recent time that I had 2 concurrent BWR cards was a year ago. But based on MBNA's clandestine actions during our recent card apps, I'm now proactively closing down my MBNA cards before re-applying for a new one.

If you try to get a concurrent MBNA card nowadays, it might still work, but I'd say it's a lot more YMMV these days. I'm sure I will be proven wrong with a recent datapoint, but would more than welcome the "stuff it" replies. :D

flyer05 Jun 26, 2017 8:26 am

JJJ, what you've said is definitely true regarding the Alaska cards. Those were being repeatedly exploited to no end, and we've all heard that MBNA is now enforcing the one-at-a-time rule for that card. I haven't heard any datapoints to suggest that this is true for the BW Card as well, though you're right that it's probably best practice to be more conservative than before when it comes to MBNA apps going forward.

I thought I had posted our recent issues with MBNA BWR cards, but it may be mired in the swamp of this thread. On my most recent application for the BWR card, MBNA spent a week pondering what my fate would be. Then auto-closed my then-existing BWR card, and then approved the new one. My wife was not so lucky. They declined her and lowered her other MBNA card limits...all this was done without any notifications from MBNA.

I have ~20 MBNA cards in my bureau report, and wife has a dozen or more in hers. Maybe they are watching us 'burners' more closely than newer applicants and have flagged our accounts?

zoqfotpik Jun 26, 2017 11:26 am

BW hotel redemption starts at 8,000 points, so potentially you can redeem 7 nights for 56k points, which you can find plenty in Asia. That's one week worth of accommodation for free! :D

This is exactly what happened last year. Limit lowered, card closed. So I think this year I'm going to cancel one before reapplying

Given there is ~2 months until this deal is set to expire, is the BW a cancel and re-apply within a short timeframe card, not a wait 90+ days and re-apply situation?

Allie Abby Jun 27, 2017 5:25 am

i cancelled about 2 months ago , signed up for card again , got message that they let me know in 10 to 15 days or call them , i went for 40000 pts with no spending limit ,dont use card alot ,so to me its a better deal than the offer for 60000 pts .
