BMO World Elite Mastercard?
TD All inclusive Banking Plan?

Sorry Chris, I have not.

I opened the BMO World Elite MC once only, when it was 30K/FYF (2014?). Haven't tried to churn it since as I'm not a huge fan of it. Since I opened it as FYF (and I don't have their premium chequing account to waive the fees), I was on a timer to use the points, or lose them, so that left a bad taste in my mouth, due to the fact that I had already laid out much of my travel plans well in advance, so I was using up the BMO Rewards points for things like hotels and rental cars. I did not like having to book through their Rewards site either, and being met with a rep who wouldn't waive the booking fee when I had a 15% AC discount code to use on flights (meanwhile many people told me they will waive it, easily).

TD Bank All Inclusive. They won't give me their new account promos because I'm not a new client, so skweww 'em. Never opened.

I just saw a promo for CIBC until Aug 31. Same as TD...open an account put 3K minimum and get $300 and do (recurring direct deposit or 2 pre-authorized payments each month) :)

alexteacher , sorry to hear. I tried to give a warning about MBNA's newer policies regarding duplicate cards, from a couple of weeks ago. I won't quote all of them, but start reading the posts from around here.

Myself, I was lucky last year that they closed my older existing card and gave me the new one anyways. Sad they couldn't do it for you as well. I know you've mentioned some quick turnaround times between cancel/re-apply in the past. Better to try and stick to a 30-90 day wait period from now on, I suppose.

flyer05 , you were looking for a datapoint for the MBNA BWR cards, well here you go. Multiple/duplicate cards of the same product are getting muted by MBNA.

====
In somewhat related news...

I proactively closed my BWR MC 3 months ago, in anticipation of signing up for another one. I was approved last week, but here's another (repeated) datapoint from me. MBNA chose to lower the limit on one of my other existing MBNA cards, without any notification/warning. This card was at $11K limit, now down to $1K. I like to keep higher limits just in case I need to shift limits around to open a declined application, as a safety net. So for this purpose I usually will consolidate the limits onto other existing cards when I request to close them. Now they are quietly taking this Plan-B away, by lowering the limits without telling me first. At one time I had a total limit close to $50K combined for all of my MBNA cards. Oh well, that's the way the wind blows nowadays.

Useful info as always JJ! Guess that means I need to rid myself of my existing 2 BW cards in order to ever get a new one... does MBNA allow product switches?

Thanks Chris. I got the $300 new account promos for both RBC and CIBC last year. I was due to shut down the CIBC account at end of May, but didn't get around to it, so I think I won't be eligible for this new CIBC promo. Do you know the terms? Can I close down the account today, and then open it again in Aug, and still qualify for the $300?

It would be prudent to, unless you want to pave a new path with an attempt to get a 3rd concurrent card? ;)

MBNA used to do product switches, but stopped when they moved over to the TD servers a couple of years ago. I believe they were going to start them back up again, but to date I haven't heard of anyone being allowed to convert their cards. Anyone have a recent success story to share here?

Nope you wont be eligible. If you had close down before May 1st before the promo would have started, you would be eligible.

"This Offer is only open to residents of Canada who: (i) have reached the age of majority; and; (ii) at the
beginning of the Offer Period, were not a holder (or joint holder) of a CIBC chequing account, as determined by
CIBC at its sole discretion on the basis of its official records"

One thing I notice at the bottom of the terms, if you shut down after receiving the reward they can invoice you at their discretion as you need to keep the account open for a full year.

I cancelled this card a year ago. I read that this welcome bonus is supposed to be only given to first time card holders but......

I have...couple months ago, airmiles bonus received again.I applied thru GCR for a $50 cash rebate.Previous card was closed 15 months ago.

Although I have a GCR account, Ive never used it. I find that when they have a promo available for a particular card, the welcome bonus miles offered was much less. If I compared the rebate amount to the value of the points I'm loosing, the points are worth a lot more.

The only cards I've applied for via GCR are the MBNA Alaska MC and Scotiabank Amex and Visa where the bonuses were the same offered via direct apply.

I am not sure.

They were very snarky when I tried to apply for "too many cards" with them a few months ago. The rep was actually unbelievably rude.

Given that I had actually closed my first card a few days before I applied for the new different (60,000 points) best western card, I wasn't even trying to do multiples of the same card.

According to the rep, however, they will decline you for a second card of the same type.

Hi JJJ,

Yeah, I wasn't going for a multiple. They botched the closing of one card. But I was definitely going for a quick application of a same branded card. I had read that others held the two cards together, so I thought there was no shame in trying.

I do wonder, despite what the rep said, whether I would have been approved for the second card of the first had indeed been closed.

I will PM you why I go for quick turnarounds sometimes. It's a personal reason and not related to strategy...or else I would share.

And datapoint for everyone:

My mother referred me to a new Amex Biz Plat. I have held before. After calling in, I was approved. About one week later, I have now (today) received an email that my card is on its way, and my mother already received the referral points.

jerry305 Jul 10, 2017 9:30 am

Amex Gold Rewards referral points ends TODAY.

User markandrew posted this on another forum:

I note the language on the Amex Gold Rewards referral now has a deadline of July 10th to apply. Seems they are withdrawing or mixing up the referral programme on that card only after that date. I hope above all that we do not lose the chance to refer from the other MR cards to the Gold Rewards - that would be a tough loss.

Here's that post:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...l#post28536732

Terms & conditions on Amex's website now says:
"To be eligible for this referral bonus, your friend must apply for the Card by July 10th , 2017. We can still accept applications after this date but you may or may not be eligible for a bonus. See Referral Program Terms for details."

just to re-iterate, this language only appears when referring FROM a personal gold, not from a different card. Eg the language doesnt show when I try and refer from my plat, so hopefully plat -> gold stays alive.

I'd cancel BW card and wait to reapply for Alaska in 60 days.

wiggum Jul 10, 2017 8:07 pm

I applied for the Best Western card Saturday and got the "please wait 10-15 days for a reply". I called today and a credit analyst answered, apparently he's above a normal rep, he said I just got the Alaska card a month ago(and I closed my previous one within 6 months) and pretty much grilled me over my application. After a 10 minute chat confirming my income and good credit score, he decided to approve it but only for 5k. I've never been put through the wringer like that before but he pretty much attributed to both cards being with MBNA.

Ontariotraveller Jul 11, 2017 5:37 am

I have had 2 BW credit cards (not at the same time) and with this 60k promotion I applied on behalf of my husband who has a good credit rating and never having had the card before. We got the same "wait and see" message and a week later got a letter saying he was rejected.
He called and was told I had (mistakenly!) reported his personal income at 700k instead of 70k!!! Yikes, that must have raised a red flag. After some time on the phone he agreed to send in proof of $70k income and we hope he will get the card and the points.
I plan to apply again before the promotion ends in August (I cancelled previous card in June) and will be more careful....

But has your husband ever had ANY MBNA card, either current or in the past? I'm not surprised they flagged the income value, but I am surprised they asked for income proof, especially if he already has an MBNA file.

Thanks for the morning chuckle. :)

No, he has never had a NBNA card of any kind so nothing on file for him.
i am the prime churner in the family but involve him when it is beneficial. He does appreciate the travel though!

Hey guys, I signed up for Best Western rewards MC for first time, made a purchase, and now I have 40,000 points in my MBNA online banking account. How do I redeem these points, or transfer them to my BWR account? I tried calling MC and BW customer service but they can't help me.

Me not so smart.

1. This is a new one for me.
2. If I had 40,000 BW points, I'd value that at about $150 to $250.
But 40,000 MBNA points is worth $400, I believe.
Since you've already made a good faith effort to convert the points to what they should be, with no luck, it's your call if you want to attempt to redeem them. So you can see the points in your account? Are you able to start a reward redemption?

How do you get to your file for credit cards from MBNA. Each card has a reward folder and in fact directs you to your points activities etc. BWR rewards are different than MBNA' s other cards but still are very explicit.

In fact how to you see your credit card's activity on line for any Bank issues cards. Its called online banking sign-ins.

Not a problem at all. You simply create a BW account, write down your account number, then call MBNA and ask them to link your account & transfer the points. I've had to do this before when my rewards number wasn't registered properly upon opening the card account. Might take 1-2 statements for your points (and Gold status) to transfer over so just be patient for that.

I guess if your income was really 700k, they'd want to verify it so they could offer you a high credit limit. If your income is 700k, you probably wouldn't be very happy with a 10k limit :p

I had instant approval for the MBNA Best Western card. The card finally arrived after 2 weeks. I signed up with the 60,000 points promotion. I have already spent over $1,000. So, I should get the initial 20,000 when my first statement posts. But what about then next 20,000 for the first $1,000 spending? Will I have to wait for the 90 days or it will be on the first statement as well? Anyone know?

You shoul be able to look it up what you got by signing to your on line banking for MBNA MC under rewards.

MBNA Alaska MasterCard via GCR

This is the response I received today when my GCR rebate didn't show up:

MBNA has completed their investigation for inquiries submitted last month. They did not approve your missing transaction inquiry because you had a prior Alaska card at MBNA. MBNA offers a rebate for new Alaska card clients only. It is stated on the MBNA page on our site.
